Smokey Eyes and a Smokin’ Hot Quad: MAC’s Temperature Rising Eye Shadow X 4 Quad

May 6th, 2013 by Karen 30 Comments

MAC Temperature Rising Eye Shadow X 4
I’m burnin’ up! My temperature’s rising, yo. Must be the $44 MAC Temperature Rising Eye Shadow X 4 quad colors I’m wearing on my eyes…

I cannot not wear smokey eyes in summer.

Wait — what did I just type? Cannot not?

Good grief. I meant to say that I really like wearing smokey eyes in summer (and spring, winter and fall, but I digress).

Even if it’s a billion degrees outside — or if it’s 2 o’clock in the morning and I’m getting ready for a 5 a.m. flight to the Maldives with Ry-Gos (I wish!) — won’t stop me. I will still get my smokey on, believe you me.

Why? Because life’s too short for second guesses when it comes to smokey eyes, even in the summer, and I’m going for it all this year — while still staying seasonally appropriate (you’ll see what I mean in a minute) — with the new $44 Temperature Rising Eye Shadow X 4 quad from MAC.

MAC Temperature Rising Eye Shadow X 4 shadows clockwise from the violet pan in the lower left: Performance Art (a frosted gold mauve with a Veluxe Pearl finish), Temperature Rising (a light warm tanned peach with a Lustre finish), Beauty Marked (a charcoal black with red pearl and a Velvet finish) and Swelter (a mid-tone gray violet with a Frost finish)
Eye Shadows clockwise from the violet pan in the lower left: Performance Art (a frosted gold mauve with a Veluxe Pearl finish), Temperature Rising (a light warm tanned peach with a Lustre finish), Beauty Marked (a charcoal black with red pearl and a Velvet finish) and Swelter (a mid-tone gray violet with a Frost finish)

Smokey eyes play starring roles in the Temperature Rising collection, to which this quad belongs, and this baby’s built for gals/guys who’d wear purple smokey lids to a July 4 picnic without batting an eye. 🙂

It’s a rebel with a cause! — and with its mauve, gray, charcoal and violet shades, appears to stand out among more typical, traditional summertime palettes. Spend some time with it, though, and it’s summery references become more apparent. MAC sneaked hints of frosted gold into mauve Performance Art and the light, tanned peach Temperature Rising.

Very, very clever!

The quad is also smartly flexible. With these shades, it’s easy to dial up or down the smokey effect.

It comes with three medium shades and one dark, which you can combine in a purple smokey look, like I’m wearing here, or you could just as easily go for a mellower daytime eye look by sweeping one of the lighter shades on your lids, and lining your lash lines with the darker color.

Whatever manner of makeup magic you craft with this quad, just be sure to tap any excess product from your brush before putting Beauty Marked, the darkest shade, to work. It packs a pigmented wallop, and things can go wrong with it very quickly.

We’re talkin’ fields of fallout if you’re not careful.

MAC Temperature Rising Eye Shadow X 4
On my cheeks: Ripe For Love Blush; on my lips: Sheer Seduction Lipstick and Soft Serenade Lipglass

Oh, and in case you also had your eye on berry pink Hot Nights or papaya Ripe for Love blush from the Temperature Rising collection, the shades in this quad seem neutral enough for both.

It’s just good like that. No matter what I pair it with on my cheeks and lips, whether warm or cool tones, I think it works well either way. 🙂

Best for: Everyone! For many, summer makeup’s all about minimalism, especially when it comes to eyes, but don’t let that deter you from trying this quad. It surprised me by working with pretty much anything I threw at it and should also handle the transition from summer to fall and winter with ease.

PRICE: $44
AVAILABILITY: Limited edition, coming May 16 to maccosmetics.com and May 23 to MAC counters and stores

Smokey eyes are always appropriate, even in the summer! Purple and brown smokey eyes are my favorites, so I can certainly see myself using this palette. I’ll probably pass though because, lovely as it is, I feel like I have dupes or near dupes of these.

      Hi Jay,

I hope that you still check out the rest of the collection. It’s really pretty! One of my faves for summer so far.

Did you have a nice Monday? I hope so!

I was so distracted by Bare My Soul that I kinda overlooked this one. I love it though, the colours work perfectly with your warm toned skin, you look gorgeous! And I think you can rock smokey eyes any time of year, really! ^^

      Hi Teri,

Thanks. Bare My Soul caught my attention at first too, but after spending some time with this one, I really like it.

      Are you into purples? 🙂

      Hi Nicole,

Yes! Purple + green eyes = perfection. Do you happen to have MAC Prunella liner? If you love purple, it’s a must have. It looks great with this quad, too.

      Hi Agata,

That blush is the REAL DEAL. It’s like the only thing I want to wear lately.

What’s on your list for this launch? I know you mentioned that you were really into it (I am too!).

This blush for sure, and the Underdressed lipglass and also I really want the Bare my Sould Quad and one of the pro bronzers but I will probably have to cut down the list a little bit 🙂

OOOMMMGGG this one looks HOT on you as well! I still prefer Bare My Soul (Beauty Marked looks like it could produce quite some fallout and for such a dark color it could be a real pain), but I loooove the look you did with this!

You look stunning! I love this quad but I am sorry that Beauty Marked isn’t actually anything like it’s in the pan. Too bad since it would be such a lovely shade. 🙁

Fields of Fallout… Now I have Fields of Fire by Big Country going through my head. I’m so old haha! Perfect description for Beauty Marked, you are so right! I have such a hard time applying that color. It’s so pretty in the pan, it just doesn’t translate to my lids in the same color. Imma dig that out tomorrow and play with it. Hopefully UPS comes tomorrow. I always look like a freak when he shows up. Usually two eyes done in completely different colors so I can test run looks.
