Coral? We Don’t Need No Stinkin’ Coral! The MAC Temperature Rising Lipsticks Take Lips on an Alternate Route to Summer

Oh, my gosh, it’s happening! The annual coral migration has begun.

Every year around this time huge flocks of corals migrate from their winter hideaways to makeup counters everywhere, gathering in large numbers wherever there are lip displays.

It’s one of my favorite things. 🙂

When the corals come back in spring and summer, it’s like, it reminds me that the world will keep turning… Frozen yogurt will keep tasting great, the Real Housewives of My Butt will keep screaming nonsense at each other on Bravo, and RyGos will keep looking hot under pretty much all circumstances.

But some makeup lovers don’t get that fired up about coral. I have a friend who refuses to wear it on her lips because she says it makes her feel like a “South Beach grandma” (her words).

Gotta be honest, I don’t get it (SERIOUSLY, HOW COULD YOU NOT LOVE CORAL?!), but I can appreciate wanting to be different and going against the flow, which brings me to the four new lipsticks in the MAC Temperature Rising collection.

See that? No coral whatsoever. Instead, MAC went a riskier route with beige, violet and bronze, and you know what?

I think it works.

I really can’t see any of these colors not looking good with a tan. It’s like their destiny. They’ve waited their entire lives for someone who applies bronzer just to answer the front door (um…not that I’d know anything about that), or for someone who spent the entire day at the beach, then went back to the resort for a disco nap and is now heading to an after-hours club/party.

To accentuate their summer style even more, MAC gave these their lightweight Cremesheen, Lustre and Dazzle lipstick formulas — nothing heavy or oppressive — and dressed ’em in limited edition packaging, while keeping their signature vanilla flavor and scent.

I’d like to give an extra shout-out to the two sparkly shades, violet Caliente and bronze Sheer Seduction, for being fun, fun, fun!

Loaded with glitter and pigment, they almost look metallic to me from a few feet away… Think Halloween costume sexy robot (or your friend’s sci-fi-themed bachelorette party).

Best for: Makeup lovers (and sci-fi fans) who like the unexpected, and gals who want some non-coral options to wear with summery bronze, brown and gold smokey eyes.

PRICE: $16.50 each
AVAILABILITY: Limited edition, coming May 16 to maccosmetics.com and May 23 to MAC counters and stores

Speaking of temperatures rising…

It was freakin’ hot here today. We almost broke 90 degrees in Novato!

Even the soles of my feet were sweating this afternoon (too much info?).

Tabs, of course, was mad as hell, because when it’s nice like this, he can’t be bothered with boring humans. All he wants to do is go outside.

He did NOT want to come back in after his walk.

L.A. face with an Oakland booty

Hope you stayed cool today. Tomorrow’s Friday, huzzah!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Since you’re here, it’s probably safe to assume that you like MAC Cosmetics as much as I do. 🙂 Have you seen my MAC Gallery? It’s a visual way to search for MAC reviews and looks on Makeup and Beauty Blog.

    “L.A. face with an Oakland booty”…… can’t…. stop…. laughing!!!!!!

While I object, on principle, to a summer collection that leaves out my beloved coral… Sheer Seduction and Caliente are GORGEOUS!

Feel My Pulse is gorgeous! I’m totally digging these colors, as I’m one of those makeup aficionados who isn’t too keen on coral.

I really love your close up photos of these lipsticks. It really shows the colours in the dazzle lipsticks. Caliente looks beautiful. All the lipsticks look fantastic on you.

    Happy Friday! 🙂

Holy hot in Novato. We were all sweating in the high 70s here. Such a nice change, though, isn’t it? 🙂

Even though Caliente is way too disco for me, I still like it best!

Karen! You look IMPOSSIBLY FETCHING with this collection!
Even Altered Beige gave you the LUMINOUS OPACITY that most nudes decry and refuse to oblige naturally deepened lips!
Cheers on the femininity of it all-

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
