Lady Dior Strips Down with Nude Shades of Pink, Beige and Brown

January 19th, 2009 by Karen 20 Comments

One of the more conservative collections this season

Dior went buck nekkid with the soft pinks, beiges and browns in the new Lady Dior collection.

I just tried a few of the new products and will post swatches when I have them, but so far … I’m interested but not in love.

The colors look natural and feminine to me but aren’t driving me wild.

I think one of the reasons I’m not falling head over heels over in love with this release is ’cause I’ve gotten a little more adventurous with color over the past few years, and I’ve seen some of these shades before.

Playing with these beiges and browns, I found myself wishing for a couple brighter roses and corals to balance out the nudes, like Chanel did with Bohemian Fantasy.

But, hey, if you like nude makeup, there’s plenty of it here to go around. 🙂

2 Colouers Eyeshadow Duo in Nude Look, $35

When it comes to the texture of their eyeshadows, Dior never fails to deliver. The matte grayish brown and the shimmery shell pink in the Nude Look duo ooze with intense color and blend flawlessly.

I would totes be into this duo more if the colors in it were more unusual.

But if you don’t have a huge eyeshadow collection or don’t have much experience with nude shades, Nude Look could be worth a splurge. They’re Dior, so you know you’re getting quality, and the colors are great basics to have around for work or school. The fine texture of these powders makes them practically fool-proof. Beginner approved! Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B+

Dior Addict High Shine Lipcolor in New Look Beige ($26)

I have a suggestion. Dior should just call these lipstick crack. The texture of Addict feels slick and hydrating, and it’s, um, totally addictive, so it’s worthy of its name.

I found myself reaching for the tube every half hour. Maybe it’s the crack inside, LOL!

It makes lips look super shiny and doesn’t feel thick or heavy. Yup, I’m way crazy in love with this texture!

My only issue is with the color. Fo’ sho’ Addict feels great on my lips, but Nude Look Beige just doesn’t rock my boat because it looks so much like other pinkish beiges I’ve seen before. It’s a good every day color, though, especially if you’re looking for something that isn’t too flashy for work. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B

Dior Long-Wearing Nail Lacquer in Porcelain ($20)

I’ve always liked Dior polishes. They’re incredibly sturdy, and Porcelain is no exception. This sweet and innocent pale pink somehow managed to hang onto my nails with nary a chip over the course of five days.

If it weren’t for the teeny bits of silver glitter in Porcelain, it would be a pretty standard color. I love how durable it is and how long it lasts on my nails, but I’m pretty sure I could find something similar for less $ from OPI or Essie. Unless you’re a die hard Dior nail polish fan, I’d think twice about Porcelain. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B

Like going nude? Consider Lady Dior

There are things I like about Lady Dior, and I haven’t seen the whole collection yet, but so far it hasn’t really ignited my imagination. You know what? If I had run into this collection 10 year ago, I bet I would have jumped all over it. Back then I was all about beige, browns and pink!

What do you think of Lady Dior so far?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

It’s cute but not too inspiring. I prefer Chanel’s Bohemian Fantasy 🙂

Yeah I agree with Karen B. I am digging Chanel’s Bohemian Fantasy. I don’t think I’ll get anything from Dior this spring.

I like the quints, but I’m waiting till the drugstore has a “points” special on to buy them, I hope they are still around in a few weeks!

I love this collection but mostly because I AM in love with nudes… starting to get into more colours but I find the regular non-LE Dior stuff does that for me… finally got a look at the Bohemian Fantasy collection, but in contrast nothing really caught my eye 🙁 I found the quad swatched really similarly on me to Dior 609 Earth Reflection.

Hey after that review and your little how-to using Mystic Eyes made me think to buy that quad but as of now, I am on a spending ban for this school quarter. I believe Mystic Eyes is not limited edition. But yeah…this Dior Collection is kind of eh…as far as colors go but I’d like to try their Addict lipstick sometimes.

I am not feeling it much either. The polish is good but I dont like sparkly ones. would you say the lipstick is similar to Urban Decay’s Midnight Cowboy – minus the shimmer ?

    Hi Karen B,

Yah, Chanel’s got a little bit more color going on in the lip department, which is why I’m drawn to it more!

I’m glad to have tried the Dior Addict lipstick, though. That was a nice discovery. Have you ever tried ’em?

    Hi Justine,

I really like how Dior handles color. It’s a good place to get a color fix that isn’t too intimidating. They also do glitter well, too. It’s always classy and never trashy. What are your favorite things from their permanent line?

    Hi Julie S.,

It’s part of the permanent line, so you have time to wait. 🙂 But summer stuff will be just around the corner (YES), so maybe they will have something available that you’ll get really excited about!

    Hi Indian Girl,

It’s less peachy and more beige than Midnight Cowboy. And yup, no sparkles. 🙂

neither.. even though chanel one looks with more provocative colors. Not to mention Lady dior has a duo compact coming out cost a whooping 95 (or is is US 90?) I wanna other brands costing less, like MAC or urban decay

I’m kind of loving the lippie, actually! Any rec’s for a dupe, hon? I really need a nice pink-nude lip colour like that, but Dior’s $26 price tag is way beyond my means as a poor student ^^

Yeah same here. There are three things I want from the Chanel collection: scarlet gypsy lipstick, the quad and the purple e/s

    I haven’t yet.

It would be great for my Mom. She’s into neutrals and in her words “very confused by all the different makeup brands.” Might get Nude Look and save it for Mother’s Day.

On a different note, how old is Tabs? Do you know?

    Hi Tekoa,

My mom is the same way. I always end up giving her tubes of brown lipstick (which she never wears).

Tabs is three! I found out from his former cat mom (DOH!) when she called me three weeks ago. He decided to visit her for the first time in months wearing his collar (with his ID tag, which also has my phone number on it). She was actually very cool about it. She has four other kitties and was glad that he found a home where he could be the only kitty and get all the attention he craves.

As much as I love neutrals, I can’t get excited over Dior’s newest collection. It seems too similar to stuff I already have. I’m trying to go a bit brighter with the corals for the approaching Spring. I just ordered Sephora brand’s “Moroccan” eye palette–it has a couple of nudes, with a pop of orange and coral that should be fun to play with. I’m thinking some of the colors will be similar to the MAC’s Redhead collection, without as much shimmer.

I ordered Nude Look, and promptly sent it back. I’m an NC30, and the shell pink color went on as a over the top shimmery blah, and the brown went on as an ugly reddish brown on me. Nothing like the cool brown on Karen’s swatch. So disappointed. Back to Mystic Eyes I go!
