Holy Mother of Pearl! Goody’s New Pearlized Shell Headwrap Delivers a Luxe Look for Less

April 20th, 2011 by Karen 41 Comments

When it comes to hair accessories, I’m a gal of simple tastes. I’ll do black ponytail holders and Spin Pins; sometimes I’ll even rock a scrunchie around the house (hey, they’re comfortable), but Goody’s new slew of spring headgear has me rethinking my minimalist ways.

Their Modern Organica Collection, available now at Target, features a bevy of new barrettes, headbands, headwraps and clips with an earthy theme, some of which would probably be more expensive on the shelves of a department store.

This $7 Pearlized Shell Headwrap has a non-rigid elastic band with braided fabric and shell accents (like mother-of-pearl). It’s available in beige, brown and black.

For what it’s worth, the neutral brown one seems to go well with white, pink, beige, peach, orange and blue shirts… I have a feeling there won’t be an accompanying color it doesn’t like.

Got a khaki or white dress? Pair it with one of these, add pearl earrings and gold bangles, and you’re good(y) to go.

When I wear it, this model (it’s a wrap instead of a rigid band) squeezes my head a little more than the Goody Reversible Headband I mentioned the other day, but it does have some stretch to it and doesn’t really hurt. If you’re sensitive to headband headaches, the Reversible band might be a better choice.

PRICE: $7
AVAILABILITY: Available exclusively at Target stores
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A- (I wish it didn’t squeeze quite as hard)

Meet me at the mango bar

Okay, have you tried these Mango Cream Bars from Trader Joe’s? Holy WOW! I only discovered them the other day and already finished the whole box.

trader joes mango and cream bars

They’re these refreshing little frozen fruit bars/Creamsicles, but they taste exactly like mangoes. Each one has little strips of frozen cream along the side of the fruity part. I thought they sounded a little weird at first, but they totally work.

And get this — each bar has only 60 calories! They’re small but loaded with flavor.

If mango isn’t your thing, I’ve also seen a raspberry version. I haven’t tried that one yet, but I hear it’s equally epic. If you run across these at TJ’s, snatch a box (or two!). Your sweet tooth will thank you. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I hate when a pretty headband squeezed my head. I have one with a plaid bow that I love the look of, but wearing it just hurts after the first half-hour. =[

I’m with Vijaya, wearing headbands or anything near my temples gives me massive headaches. But I’m not much of an accessories person anyway. And by not much, I mean not at all, haha! You look super cute with the headband though!

I’m a little nervous about that one. Is it sweet? Or does it taste like bitter coffee?

They sound delicious! Have u tried the European ( I think it’s a French brand) sorbets that they sell, it comes in coconut, orange, and lemon. The sorbets are in the shell of those specific items of food.

      Hi Moni,

I think this line is available exclusively at Target. Do you happen to have one nearby?

On my lips I’m wearing a lipgloss — that’s MAC Russian Red Lipglass. Here are swatches/pics:

I just got a Goode Ouchless headband. They bend at the ears to fit your head. Feels a little better than a normal one. It does slip a little for me since it’s thin. But wearing headbands is much easier without my glasses. 😉

Well, Goody is on a tear, aren’t they? This is cute but it would be slipping off my slopey, little head in a matter of minutes. 🙂 No TJ’s around us but those mango bars sound intriguing. I think I’d be into the coffee ones, though!

Never used to check out Goody until they came out with those DNA helix type corkscrew pins because all their goods looked, well, dull. I’m used to rhinestones and lucite and pretty details at really cheap prices, I’ve been spoiled from living in Korea where accessories are so cute but cheap. This here now, though, looks good. Too bad it’s a squeezer… I’d wear them if I had contacts but I can’t manage any additional pressure on my head because my glasses already torture me plenty.

Maybe I should go on a trip to Korea and bring back some pretty hair pins… and set up shop here. Hehe.

Great headband find, Karen. I’ve been looking for a new hair accessory for an audition in a couple of weeks, and I think this band in black will fit the bill. The mango frozen bars look so delish, too…….

That headband is so cute! Too bad I get a headache from every single headband I buy (I swear it must come from being a migraine sufferer).

My version of headbands have become scarves. Silk scarves, polyester scarves, cotton scarves….if I want a headband, it has to be a scarf. They don’t give me headaches. My favorite scarf to turn into a headband is my silk scarf from Eyzer Designs. They’re so soft and vibrant! What you see is what you get! My Hardenbergia silk scarf is getting awfully lonely so I think I’m going to buy the Gumleaves one when I get paid next. 🙂
