Givenchy Rouge Interdit Lipstick in Candide Tangerine: A Modern Twist on Retro Orange

March 7th, 2011 by Karen 73 Comments

Um, did I really just spend 20 minutes dancing around my living room to Biggie’s Juicy?

Yes, I did (I suspect you aren’t surprised). 🙂

And why did I do it?

Givenchy! Candide Tangerine, their newest lipstick color, makes me REALLY wish I could rap. If I could, I’d spit a few bars about how downright juicy it is.

givenchy rouge inderdit lipstick in candide tangerine
You know very well who you are…

Imagine pieces of peeled tangerine dipped in concentrated Hawaiian Punch. THAT’s how intensely pigmented Candide Tangerine is.

I’m wearing two layers for opaque coverage in these pics; a single layer produces more of a stained look.

Reddish orange Mad Men lips have been popping up like Technicolor prairie dogs lately, but for this Givenchy went a different route. Instead of making it an old-school matte a la MAC Neon Orange, which I’m wearing in these pics here (from the Stylishly Yours Collection), Givenchy gave it a glossy, shiny finish. I like it both ways, but I think the shine makes Candide Tangerine look a little more modern.

If you’re new to Givenchy’s Rouge Interdit Lipstick line, you’re in for a treat (albeit an expensive one…like truffles). These moisturizing lippies feel smooth and light on my lips and have a really nice glide to them. They’re unflavored, but they do have a light rosy scent that quickly fades. I think it’s pleasant.

Givenchy calls the Rouge Interdit lipsticks long-wearing, but I dunno… I get between 3-4 hours out of Candide Tangerine, which isn’t terribly good or bad. More like medium-wear, and I do touch-ups with it at least a few times throughout the day.

Candide Tangerine is rather expensive, but it’s also packed with pretty pigment. It’s wonderful texture and sleek, sophisticated packaging also make it feel worthy of the price — a fun, fresh take on one of spring’s trendiest colors.

PRICE: $29

A stellar day at Stellar Spa

Last weekend’s spa day with my high school buddies at Stellar Spa in Corte Madera (up in the North Bay Area) was a really nice treat. I’d driven by the spa many times (it’s close to the place I go to get my hair did) before, but I’d never walked in. It’s a super cute, homey little spot offering massages, facials and body treatments.

They have men’s and women’s lounges and a soothing co-ed “quiet area” with couches, magazines and snacks (dried fruit, nuts, water and tea), so you can unwind before and after your treatment. It’s not one of those spas with, like, the super fancy showers, or a sauna or pool, but it’s clean, classy and great if you just want to relax. I also thought the staff were really nice.

I had a deep tissue massage, and Tina, the very cool masseuse who worked on me, tenderized my upper back and shoulders as if they were pieces of meat, effectively chiseling out all of my tension (and I mean this in the best possible way). I left feeling like a new girl, mellow and happy.

If you’re ever in the area and looking for a place to unwind, Stellar Spa is just a hop, skip and a jump (about a 20-minute drive) from the Golden Gate bridge.

Have you ever been to a spa before? Tell me about it. What are some of your favorite treatments?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

    That lip color is gorgeous!

I’ve never done the spa thing before but I might go to one this summer with a friend when her birthday rolls around. We’re thinking of going to one in Calistoga. We’ll see…

      Hi Heidi,

Whatever you do stay far, far away from Indian Springs! I went for my birthday in June and did not enjoy it at all. It was really impersonal and I felt like a piece of cattle… Completely NOT relaxing at all!

Ooh, I will keep that in mind!

So, I just got back from …. Vintage Oaks! I met up with a Marin friend for dinner at Chevy’s. Yes, of course he had them do the whole birthday sombrero, clapping, singing thing. Ugh…. well, at least I got a free sundae out of the embarrassment!

I was going to stop into Sephora beforehand, but I hit some nasty traffic heading south through Sonoma County so I didn’t end up having time. Oh well… my credit card thanks me!

My only spa trip has been to bliss for waxings. Not that exciting. But I have a gift card to another spa I plan to use for a massage, maybe this summer. I can’t wait!

Ooh, not exciting at all, but still good stuff! My friend had a pre-natal massage… she said it helped her back a lot.

Body treatments are nice too. I like the ones that let me totally veg out. 🙂

When is your friend due? My Monday was pretty typical, just went to work. Bottle of contact solution opened in my tote bag and drenched all my stuff, so it was a rough morning. How was your day? Anything fun going on?

September. She’s the first one out of my close group of friends to be with child, so you better believe that kid is gonna be SPOILED by the aunties! 😀

My Monday was just okay… I’ve been kind dragging all afternoon (the cloudy/rainy weather makes me feel blah) but otherwise it’s been fine. I just got back from a Sephora trip (needed a pick me up) so things are starting to look up!

That sucks about your contact solution. 🙁 Is all the important stuff okay (phone, makeup)?

Tonight I have absolutely nothing exciting planned except for going to bed early. I’m officialy old, LOL!

I’m jealous of your sephora run! Did you grab anything other than your creaseless cream?

Luckily the important stuff is all fine! Just a granola bar casualty.

I am eating pop tarts and watching jersey shore, lol! Exciting night!

Hee hee! Are you a Virgo or a Libra? I’m pretty excited… I’ve got grand plans to be the “cool aunt.” (Everyone needs one.)

So, MIRACULOUSLY I managed to make it out of there with just one thing. I was tempted by a tube of Pacifica French Lilac body butter but I think I need to finish at least one tube before picking up another scent.

You know strawberry Pop Tarts with icing are the jam, right? And what the heck is going on with Ronnie and Sammie. Seriously, just break up already.

            March 7th, 2011 at 6:26 pm

Virgo!!! I was born on the 12th. You will def be the cool aunt! So fun!

That’s my pop tart kind too! I have started buying them by the case on amazon (insert embarrassed emoticon here).

I know right? These two kill me. I feel like the whole show revolves around their drama.

Are you much like your sign? I’m a gemini down to the T!

Those are the ONLY Pop Tarts I’ll eat, btw. And wow, I didn’t know you could buy them by the case. It’s the dawn of a new era…

No kidding re: the lame Sammie and Ronnie drama. Did you hear how they’re going to do a season in Italy? I miss the kinder, gentler days of the first season. Sigh!

I think I have some of the traits. I’m definitely an organizer and a worrier. And logical.

Girl, check it out on amazon. It’s like $6.60 for a box of 36. Pretty awesome.

Yeah, these goobers in Italy should be interesting! I need to go back and watch season 1!

Thank you!! El Hub always buys these so-called “healthy” Pop Tarts from Trader Joes, and while they’re probably better for me, there’s nothing like the real thing. I need to stock up.

I recently Tivo’d a few eps from the first season and they’re much less obnoxious than the recent ones. I have a feeling their 15 minutes will be up soon.

I did purchase the lipgloss that goes with this lipstick, the gloss interdit in Succulent Orange which is a bit more red than the lipstick.

Just bought Revlon Colorburst in Fuschia and I’ve been wondering how to do makeup for my eyes with that particular color. I might have to try going for orange lipstick too. Very flattering on your skin! I’m about two shades lighter than you (I have yellow-toned skin..I think I’m an NC 30).

The spa looks gorgeous from the outside – I’m so not used to how American has all these open space, whereas here, unless you’re far out in the country, everything’s so compact and tiny.

A massage sounds heaven to me right now!

The tangerine lippy is delish, I like 🙂
I just went to a foot and hand spa with a friend, we’d won coupons for a dr Fish treatment. Loads of fishies nibbling at my toes, and it ended with a nice scrub and a (very minimal) mani/pedi. Tres nice!

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
