From Stonehenge to QVC: The Tarte 8th World Wonder Kit

March 18th, 2011 by Karen 24 Comments

tarte 8th world wonder

The Great Pyramid of Giza, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the Statue of Zeus at Olympus and now Tarte. Someone wake up Herodotus. It’s time to add one more to his Seven Wonders of the World, and this one’s a QVC exclusive.

Tarte continues to sizzle this spring. Their recently released $53 limited edition 8th World Wonder Kit comes with some Tarte colors you can’t find anywhere else, like Amazonian Clay Blush in Glisten.

Hi, Glisten… Pardon me while I wipe this drool off my chin!

In the kit, Glisten joins six other pieces for eyes, lips, face and cheeks, all in a cute purple clutch purse.

Tarte 8th World Wonder Kit ($53)

  • Amazonian Clay Blush in Glisten — I’m in love with the glow I get from this shimmery peachy pink. Like the other blushes in Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Blush line, Glisten is pigmented, easy to blend and lasts and lasts and lasts.
  • PureOptic Lipgloss in Golden — I think this shimmery golden peachy pink kinda sorta resembles MAC Nymphette, except that it’s lighter and doesn’t contain quite as much pigment. I find the minty scent and flavor refreshing, but I’m not crazy about the thick, sticky texture… It feels too heavy on my lips.
  • Amazonian Clay Waterproof Eyeliner — Something tells me this rich, shimmery bronze-plum eyeliner will look incredible on brown brown eyes and green eyes. I’ve worn it successfully along my lash line, but when I wore it along my waterlines, my eyes teared up.
  • Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Balancing Foundation — Medium, the shade I’ve been testing, seems too light for my skin tone, but I’m still wearing it around the house for fun. With the kit, you can choose the shade of foundation you want.

The feel of this lightweight, fluffy mousse reminds me of Laura Mercier’s Silk Creme Foundation. Like Laura’s creme, it’s pigmented and full coverage, yet it still feels darn near weightless on my skin.
  • Airbrush Finish Foundation Brush — Designed to apply liquid foundations, this soft, full brush head produces diffused looks with aplomb.
  • Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara — This jet black mascara adds natural-looking length and thickness to lashes.
  • Eyeshadow Palette — I didn’t get to try this palette of brown, bronze, purple and pink powder shadows, but here’s what Stef thought about it at We Heart This.

I’m not crazy about PureOptic gloss, but I still think this is a lovely kit. I do wish that Tarte had thrown in a LipSurgence instead.

Even so, I think the kit’s a pretty good deal for $53. The full-size products work out to about $6.60 apiece (including the clutch).

MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: B+ (an A- if they’d swap out the gloss)

Bag pipes rock!

El Hub and I always try to go out on St. Patrick’s Day (he’s a quarter Irish), and last night we stopped by a local Irish pub/restaurant here in Marin called Moylan’s for fish and chips (and pints). While we ate, a band of kilt-wearing bagpipers and drummers rocked the house, and it was awesome! NOTE: I’m adding bagpipes to the very long list of instruments I would someday like to play. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. I hope your Friday’s gone well. Do you have any plans for tonight?

Karen, I don’t what it is from the kit in particular that is doing the trick but you look more luminous than usual in today’s FOTD.

Thanks, Julie. 🙂 I think it might be the blush — it adds some nice glow to the skin.

How’s your Friday going? Are you ready for the weekend?

On second glance I think you might be right, the shimmer seems to being doing the work 🙂

It’s already Saturday morning downunder here in Oz and my own pussycat woke me up nice and early! Unlike Tabs, he’s more interested in my shoe collection than my makeup though.

You look gorgeous! Is this Glisten bush just a QVC exclusive? If it is that makes me sad.
I think I’m gonna do some shopping this weekend! Otherwise, no major plans. How about you?

    Hey, Karen….

Can’t wait to get this kit, should be here any day, and it looks great.

Any problems with the weather in Novato? Santa Rosa had a TORNADO at one point today, but fortunately not in my neighborhood. The news footage was pretty scary, though. I’ll be working around the storms this weekend and will attempt to get out and get some groceries at some point.

I got that kit on tuesday, I looooove it. I agree about the gloss, I love the color especially with the rest of the colors from the kit but it is real sticky. I was super smart and bought it on auto delivery so I get other sets of new colors for the same good price.

Ahhh that blush is calling my name! So pretty. I’m curious – what blush brush do you use?

TGIF! Tonight my bff brought over takeout dinner and we watched old SATC episodes. Was pretty chill! I’ve reached the point where I don’t feel like leaving my house and even my maternity clothes don’t really fit anymore 🙁

i resisted … for a while. i know resistance will be futile and i will own those blushes! soon!

I only want that blush and I don’t want to get everything just for one thing. Long time until August I guess.

Eep, Glisten is killing me! It looks absolutely gorgeous, but I know I’d barely ever wear that much shimmer (even if it’s really finely ground) >.<

I am LOVING the look of the foundation on your skin, though – the finish looks amazing, & you make it sound so great!

    Hi Karen!

You look so pretty you make me want to buy the kit! I was wondering if the glisten shade blush is similar to benefit’s sugarbomb by any chance? I really love sugarbombs color but I don’t like the consistency of benefits powders I wish they were more fine and was wondering if glisten was comparable? Also, does the foundation feel more like a tinted moisturizer??? I am thinking of ordering the kit but I don’t like heavy foundations. Thanks Karen I always love your posts!

WANT!!!! I bought the Achiote Tarte set from QVC and I LOVE it!!!! Tarte has really been impressing me lately and this set looks like a really good deal so I can try out more Tarte products without paying for FS everything to try it out.

Thanks for the link Karen. Plum and I usually don’t play nice, but the ones in this kit work really well with my warm toned skin. This is one of my favorite kits in for-ever! It’s quite the deal, no?

I just got the same set! I’m NC20-25, and the medium looks a tad dark on me, but I’m afraid the light will look too light. I wish the foundation came in more than four shades, but I’m liking the feel so far. And the blush is gorgeous; reminds me of NARS Orgasm, but lighter and a bit peachier, which is good because Orgasm can turn a little rusty on me, especially when I use too much.

I LOVE this set. And even though the gloss is shimmery and I don’t normally go for that, i really like it. I actually prefer the texture to MAC’s lipglasses. It’s just a thick (which i like), but not as sticky to me.

There goes Tarte with their crazy claims again! 🙂 Oddly enough, I was just reviewing the 7 Wonders of the World on the History website a couple of weeks ago. What a coincidence! 🙂

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
