Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Tipsy on cheeks
Breathtaking is all I can say about Tarte’s new Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blushes ($25 each). I could tell right away that these powder blushes were something special. I mean, just look at them — the embossed leaf on the pan, how the compacts are color coordinated to match the blush inside? Beautiful.
Clockwise from the lower left: Tipsy, Natural Beauty and Blushing Bride
The colors are based on existing shades from Tarte’s Cheek Stain and Lip Stain line, and Tarte says their not-so-secret ingredient, Amazonian clay, behaves differently depending on the wearer’s skin, by hydrating dry spots and/or absorbing oil in greasy areas at the same time.
That’s cool and all, but Tarte had me at hello with these. 🙂 The colors are just so intense that I can hardly look away…but eventually I have to, because on top of everything else, they last throughout the day!
Yesterday I spent some quality me time with three of the eight blushes in the line — Tipsy (a matte coral), Blushing Bride (a shimmery rosy plum with golden glitter) and Natural Beauty (a matte red).

Straight up, aren’t these blushes gorgeous? I think there’s a subtle but discernible divide between products that are good and products that are great, and I’d say these are absolutely the later. I’m hopelessly hooked. I think I need to pounce on Amused (a bright pink) and Blissful (a warm peach) next.
Speaking of pouncing, Tabs wanted me to add that they’re also cruelty free. WOOT!
PRICE: $25 each
AVAILABILITY: Available exclusively at Sephora stores and online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A+
You might like the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blushes if…
- You’re looking for a blush that packs a lot of pigment
- You prefer products that are cruelty-free
- You want your blush to last all day long
- You like to couple your skin care and beauty products in one
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
So so pretty <3 Just wish they were a tad cheaper…maybe 20$ instead of 25$. But still, all three look so gorgeous! Hell even the compacts have me lusting, haha.
LOL, me too. I’m a sucker for cute packaging.
gorgeous! natural beauty looks stunning on you, it’s my fave out of the 3. can’t wait to see amused & blissful next :).
oh, & LOVE the packaging!

Thanks, Amy. 🙂
These look gorgeous on you Karen! I’ve been on the verge of trying these for a while and I think this review just sealed the deal. Thank you as always for the info! You amaze me with how dedicated you are to your blog-you never slack off!!
You’re welcome, Erica! Hope you had a great weekend!
Can’t wait to try these. Tipsy looks perfect for me!
Yay! I hope you love Tipsy, Heidi!
I’m trying to be very careful with my spending these days, but I do have a birthday coming up in a month, and I can usually count on a friend or two to give me a gift certificate to Sephora, so I’ll look forward to getting some spring makeup!
wow, love the packaging….natural beauty looks great on you. I’m your skin tone so I see myself buying it 🙂
Yay, give it a go, then, Chibu!
wow, natural beauty gives you such a gorgeous, flushed look! Tipsy is my favorite out of the three based on that swatch 🙂 Blissful sounds like it could be very pretty as well. I love the embossing on these too!

i have amused, and i love it! I feel for these hard at first site. i actually bought amused online before they arrived in stores, i was so excited about them i couldn’t wait! luckily i had a birthday gift card. 🙂 i love natural beauty! i may have to check that one out soon. I love tipsy too, but i don’t think i need another coral blush.
Hi Amanda,
Argh, I think I might have to collect the entire lot of these. They’re kind of amazing, right?
You look beautiful! I love your eye makeup here. I think I may swatch these blushes next time I see thrum at Sephora…
Hi Suji,
That’s the NARS Calanque trio at work!
I try not to check out your blog for fear of creating more lemmings but the Tarte Natural Beauty blush looks so awesome on you that I’ll have to try it out! I have a lot of their cheek stains including the one in Natural Beauty – would you happen to know how these two compare? Thanks for the great pictures!!

Hi Janice,
I’ve tried the Cheekstains before and the big difference is pigmentation and wear time. The powders are richer in color and last longer. Plus, the finish is less dewy.
Let me know if you have any other questions!
I think I need Tipsy now! The color is so pretty, and I love the name too. I wish I lived closer to a Sephora so I could try them all…
Hi Bitsey,
I’m waiting for my nearby Sephora to get the entire collection in. Once they do I’ll swatch the whole thing… hope that helps!
Oooooh…..these are beautiful!
I hope you give them a try, Katrina.
Those look amazing!
They’re even more amazing in person. 🙂
These look SO cute, Karen! I totally don’t need anymore blushers, but I certainly want Natural Beauty 😛

Haha, in my own special way… I slathered some on a piece of whole wheat toast and danced around my kitchen while I ate it. Does that count?
The shades are beautiful and I love the natural flush they give your skin. The packaging is very pretty too.

Karen, the whole thing (makeup and blush and hair and cute top/necklace) is SUCH a beautiful look!
I might have to check out those blushes. I only ever wear Orgasm and am clueless as to what colour I should pick (I have pink cheeks all the time so go for the same colour), but I really, really like the look of these.
Thanks, Advah! I was in the mood to try something different.
I think if you like Orgasm Tipsy might be a good place to start. It’s got a similar sort of peachy/coral vibe, but with less gold.
As ever, I’m totally jealous of your skin tone. These blushes are gorgeous, but like other readers, I wish they were a little cheaper. I also wonder about their wearing time on really, really oily skin.
Hi Chelsie,
I’ve been having a decent run with my skin lately… thank goodness for benzoyl peroxide!
My cheeks tend to be dry so if anybody else with oily skin has tried this I’d love to hear the wear time.
These lasted until I took them off which was about 14 hours! I have super oily skin and even after blotting the blush stayed on! I got flush and it is such a beautiful color! Deep pink and you must use a light hand because it is very pigmented! But hands down my new fave blush!
this product sounds amazing and the packaging is gorgeous. i’ll have to try these out and see how my oily cheeks like them
Good luck, Lauren! Let me know how well this works on your skin.
Tipsy looks great on you! I really like how the packaging matches the product, no going through your blush collection hunting for the color you want! Thanks for the review and hope you’re doing well.
You’re welcome, Angel! I hope you had a great weekend.
I’m drooling. Period. I have to get one of these 😀 (I’m contemplating getting Blushing Bride, that color is just amazing).
It’s gorgeous! When you see it in person look for the tiny gold flecks.
Loving ‘Natural Beauty’ the most, but they all look great!

yay – these are awesome! I have tipsy, and natural beauty was the next one on my list, so I’m glad you have that one to show us! I love it and want it even more now.
also, your skin looks freaking amazing. like, perfect. I may have to revisit your skincare/face makeup post and just buy everything listed on there 🙂
I had to go run errands right after I wrote this post so I used my regular, everyday combo — MAC Strobe Cream, Chanel Mat Lumiere and MAC Blot. I was kinda surprised it photographed so well… anywho, you gotta try it!
I love the packaging being the same colour as the product I imagine it would make it much easier to find what you want. well slightly depends on how much stuff you have to look through xoxox

So true! Having the packaging match the shade makes it that much easier.
I am super excited about Tipsy! I don’t buy much blush, but I may have to try these at the store.

Hi Deb,
Tipsy is a stand out shade! I think you’ll love it.
The packaging is really cute and I also like the embossing on these. So pretty! I think that Tipsy will come with me next time I visit Sephora.
They’re even more beautiful in person. 🙂
These shades look like they could work for a lot of people. I can’t wait to check them out!

Oh I wish I wasn’t so picky when it comes to blush! These sound so cool and look so awesome on you that it almost makes me want to go for it. I don’t know what my hang-up is…I am working on breaking out of my blush rut.
Hi Alka,
I hear you. I went through a phase when all I wanted to wear was MAC Dollymix. What color(s) are you wearing right now?
Unfortunately my phase started in 1998!
Mac Prism is my go to everyday blush because I can’t mess it up. I sometimes add a little Orgasm on top to just the apples of my cheeks for a peachy glow (my attempt at breaking out of my rut).
I knew these would be great! I can hardly wait ti get my hands on one!

OMG! Karen, you look so beautiful!
These blushes look amazing, will have to pick up Tipsy for myself.
Thank you for the swatches and wearing them on your lovely face for us to see.
Hi Gigi,
I’m so glad to hear you’ll be picking up Tipsy! It’s going to be a great color for spring/summer. 🙂
Have a good week!
Love Natural Beauty! It reminds me of Tarte Powder Blush in Hottie (the old ones that were discontinued). I am so happy because I have scavenged for all the Hotties left out there in ebay and when I run out now I will get Natural Beauty! Interesting concept with the clay. I have oily skin and always have to reappy blush like 4 to 5 x a day. Btw, Karen, you look gorgeous in the Natural Beauty pics! Your skin! Amazing! Your eye-makeup! Ahh me want!
Thanks Elwoods. 🙂 That’s Chanel Mat Lumiere Foundation, MAC Blot Powder and NARS Calanque working some magic!
Oh, so pretty packaging! Tipsy is my favorite<3

thanks for the review and swatches! i’ve been totally eyeing tipsy since i found out about it 😀
You’re welcome! Tipsy is great.
They sound lovely. I’m thinking about dollface and exposed as I have a natural ‘English Rose’ complexion and I don’t need much colour in blush (it’s already there!).
Lucky you!
I haven’t seen Dollface or Exposed in person yet but I’m betting they’ll be just as pigmented as these, so you might want to use a fan brush to apply them.
Nice! I have always loved the colors of tarte cheekstains, but find the gel-ish formula and bulky packaging so bothersome I hardly ever wear mine. :/ A powder alternative sounds just up my alley!
I think you’ll really like these a lot, Lucie. You could probable use them on top of your Cheekstains!
So natural and pretty!
Are you a Tarte fan, Ariel?
Oh my God, these look amazing! I really want to buy Tipsy. I originally phrased that as “I really want to get Tipsy,” but then I re-read what I wrote and realized it might come off wrong, lol.
Also, this is unrelated, but your necklace is gorgeous!
These look gorgeous! Love Tarte, may have to try one of these instead of refilling my Nars Orgasm blush. 🙂

Hope you’ll do swatches of the other blushes soon 🙂
OMG I am in love with these blushes, I got the one in flushed i think it’s called, and I love it! i have very oily skin and this styas in place all day, they are pigmented and I love to have them all now! 🙂
I am loving Tarte lately. Thanks for doing this post. I have Tipsy and will probably get Blissful, Flush, and Natural Beauty, and another one that’s coming out in a Sephora kit…Adored or Amused, or something pinky like that. LOL. Karen, what is your eye makeup in this look? Just a highlight shade?—I love it!
PS I also ordered the Achiote set from qvc—-CAN’T WAIT.
Hi Nina #2 (LOL! Love your handle),
That’s the default eye makeup look I’ve been rocking lately. It’s super easy:
NARS Pro Prime Eyeshadow Base (lids)
Becca Creme Eye Colour in Patina (lids)
Cargo Eye Pencil in Khaki from the Voyages Safari Collection (waterlines and upper lash line)
NARS Soft Touch Pencil in Hollywoodland (lower lash lines, brow bones and inner corners)
Benefit Brows-a-go-go (on brows)
Becca the Ultimate Mascara in Black (upper and lower lashes)
Let me know if you have any other questions about it! 🙂
Hey Karen! Could you possibly post a tutorial on how to do your adorable hairstyle?! I love it!!!

Hi ladies,
As beautiful as these blushes are, I just wanted to point out that many of these blushes contain Carmine, which is derived from boiling Cochineal beetles while alive and then crushing their little bodies into a powder….thus creating Carmine. Carmine is a beautiful colour, used to colour many things from lipstick, blush, eyeshadow, yogurt, fruit juice, and many other products. For Vegan alternatives to this blush check out my website at http://www.jadasbathandbeauty.weebly.com.
Jada
I have heard amazing things about these blushes. The result looks amazing on you!!! You have inspired me to hit up Sephora and check these out. What color would you recommend for fair skin that gives a beautiful glow?

hi karen. may i ask what shade would you recommend to an nc 30-35? thanks 🙂
Hi Karen! I’m trying to decided between Tarte Tipsy and Nars Gilda. (I have similar colouring as you.) What would you recommend? Be blessed. <3
