Color Me Glad About Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush

February 5th, 2011 by Karen 99 Comments

Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Tipsy on cheeks

Breathtaking is all I can say about Tarte’s new Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blushes ($25 each). I could tell right away that these powder blushes were something special. I mean, just look at them — the embossed leaf on the pan, how the compacts are color coordinated to match the blush inside? Beautiful.

Clockwise from the lower left: Tipsy, Natural Beauty and Blushing Bride

The colors are based on existing shades from Tarte’s Cheek Stain and Lip Stain line, and Tarte says their not-so-secret ingredient, Amazonian clay, behaves differently depending on the wearer’s skin, by hydrating dry spots and/or absorbing oil in greasy areas at the same time.

That’s cool and all, but Tarte had me at hello with these. 🙂 The colors are just so intense that I can hardly look away…but eventually I have to, because on top of everything else, they last throughout the day!

Yesterday I spent some quality me time with three of the eight blushes in the line — Tipsy (a matte coral), Blushing Bride (a shimmery rosy plum with golden glitter) and Natural Beauty (a matte red).

Straight up, aren’t these blushes gorgeous? I think there’s a subtle but discernible divide between products that are good and products that are great, and I’d say these are absolutely the later. I’m hopelessly hooked. I think I need to pounce on Amused (a bright pink) and Blissful (a warm peach) next.

Speaking of pouncing, Tabs wanted me to add that they’re also cruelty free. WOOT!

PRICE: $25 each
AVAILABILITY: Available exclusively at Sephora stores and online
MAKEUP AND BEAUTY BLOG RATING: A+

You might like the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blushes if…

  • You’re looking for a blush that packs a lot of pigment
  • You prefer products that are cruelty-free
  • You want your blush to last all day long
  • You like to couple your skin care and beauty products in one

Karen

So so pretty <3 Just wish they were a tad cheaper…maybe 20$ instead of 25$. But still, all three look so gorgeous! Hell even the compacts have me lusting, haha.

      Hi Janice,

I’ve tried the Cheekstains before and the big difference is pigmentation and wear time. The powders are richer in color and last longer. Plus, the finish is less dewy.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Karen, the whole thing (makeup and blush and hair and cute top/necklace) is SUCH a beautiful look!

I might have to check out those blushes. I only ever wear Orgasm and am clueless as to what colour I should pick (I have pink cheeks all the time so go for the same colour), but I really, really like the look of these.

I think if you like Orgasm Tipsy might be a good place to start. It’s got a similar sort of peachy/coral vibe, but with less gold.

These lasted until I took them off which was about 14 hours! I have super oily skin and even after blotting the blush stayed on! I got flush and it is such a beautiful color! Deep pink and you must use a light hand because it is very pigmented! But hands down my new fave blush!

Mac Prism is my go to everyday blush because I can’t mess it up. I sometimes add a little Orgasm on top to just the apples of my cheeks for a peachy glow (my attempt at breaking out of my rut).

    Hi ladies,

As beautiful as these blushes are, I just wanted to point out that many of these blushes contain Carmine, which is derived from boiling Cochineal beetles while alive and then crushing their little bodies into a powder….thus creating Carmine. Carmine is a beautiful colour, used to colour many things from lipstick, blush, eyeshadow, yogurt, fruit juice, and many other products. For Vegan alternatives to this blush check out my website at http://www.jadasbathandbeauty.weebly.com.

I have heard amazing things about these blushes. The result looks amazing on you!!! You have inspired me to hit up Sephora and check these out. What color would you recommend for fair skin that gives a beautiful glow?

Hi Karen! I’m trying to decided between Tarte Tipsy and Nars Gilda. (I have similar colouring as you.) What would you recommend? Be blessed. <3

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
