Dolce & Gabbana Sicilian Lace Caramel Lipstick: Now You See It, Now You Don’t

August 12th, 2010 by Karen 37 Comments

dolce gabbana sicilian lace caramel lipstick

Dolce&Gabbana-Classic-Cream-LipstickSo, I would probably love the new Dolce & Gabbana Classic Cream Lipstick in Caramel ($30) if it weren’t for one minor thing…

My lips.

Part of the six-piece Sicilian Lace collection for fall, it’s also one of 32 available Classic Cream Lipsticks carried exclusively at Saks, and it just so happens to almost exactly match the color of my skin!

Here’s a swatch on my arm (no, seriously, there is a swatch):

Eeek!

I dig D&G’s elegant packaging (the golden tubes are gorge!), slick texture and Caramel’s light rose scent (it is unflavored, though), but I’m not too keen on this Caramel for myself.

NOTE: Flesh-toned lips make me feel like a short brown mannequin…

More sweets from Dolce & Gabbana Sicilian Lace…

  • I’m Sweet on Caramel: Dolce & Gabbana Sicilian Lace Ultra Shine Lipgloss in Caramel
  • Dolce & Gabbana Sicilian Lace Fall 2010: The Smooth Eyeshadow Quad in Nude
  • Dolce & Gabbana Sicilian Lace Collection Fall 2010

I can see Caramel Lipstick looking better (and beautiful) on lighter lovelies. If you like warm beige lippies with a creamy finish — and you’re cool with the $30 price — Caramel could be a sweet treat (and there are also 31 other flavors). Available at select Saks Fifth Avenue stores. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B-

I have the same problem w/ nude lipsticks. My lips are pretty pigmented so they either wash me out or disappear altogether.

That nude is so pretty though ….. reminds me of caramel totally!

I’ve been craving dulche de leche ice cream ever since this release came out! 🙂

Have you found any good nude lipsticks that you like? MAC High Tea is probably my fave.

High Tea is my fave too! 🙂

I swatched Creme d Nude when it came out with In The Groove and I might end up getting it too.

There is this Dulce de Leche spread that I am totally in love with. Its awesome with crackers or on its own! 😀

Williams Sonoma makes one that is like crack for your tastebuds. It’s SOOO good on toast, NOM!

Have you ever tried High Tea w/Spice liner and some clear gloss? It’s super cute!

I usually do a nude liner but no gloss because im a lazy girl … but I will try it w/ some clear gloss when I wear it next.

OMG @ Williams Sonoma – that place is like heaven to me. I should find their dulce de leche. Mine is just from the grocery store … could always do w/ an upgrade as far as caramel is concerned ya’know! 😛

Now *that’s* a nude lip! I have a complicated relationship with nudes. I feel weird when my lips disappear.

Me too! I don’t always want them to pop like crazy, but a little something something always makes me feel better.

Oooh, yeah, that’s no good. Nude lipsticks are so, so tricky- I’ve taken to just using concealer as lipstick, although I suspect that concealer isn’t all that healthy to ingest…

I do prefer the nude glossy look over just lipstick. I”ll wear a nude lip when I have a “no make-up” day so to at least look fresh. I remember a funny incident where my fair skinned, blond friends wanted to try my make-up…I have tanned, close to olive tone skin and black hair. They don’t wear make-up but liked my “natural” look with my nude colors, so they put on the lipstick and all I could think of was zombie-lips. Just thought I would share.

Yeah the lipstick alone gives you ‘corpse lips’ hahaha
It does look better with gloss on top of it. Yeah, I’ll pass on this one – I can imagine what it would look like on my darker skin!

That is such a gorgeous color, too bad it didn’t work for you. I may have to make a pilgrimage to my closet Saks to try some of these out for myself.

Let me know if it works for you! Oh, and the line is offered at select Saks stores, so you might want to call them first to make sure your store carries Dolce & Gabbana. 🙂

      Happy Thursday!

Thanks for the heads up on the select store stuff. That would be annoying after driving for an hour and some to the east side of Cleveland.

LOL, I’m sure you look like a *cute* mannequin, at least! :p I always forget that you’re short (like me!) — you look so tall in your FOTD shots. Guess it’s just your confidence and general awesomeness that make you look taller!

A nude lip is sexy…a disappearing lip, not so much. But that is a gorgeous color for those who can pull it off! It looks gorgeous with the gloss.

One of the things that creeps me out is when lips are the same color as the rest of the skin. If it were me, I’d avoid this like the plague.

Wow, that’s a nude lipstick. I don’t really like nude shades, it’s so weird when your lips are the same color as your skin.

wow, its tough to find a lippie thats the EXACT same shade as your skintone but i think you’ve found it! haha personally.. im not a huge fan of lips being the same shade as my skin.. i much prefer lippies that are same shade as my lips hahaha or in the case of nude lippies – i prefer a nude thats slightly pinkish so i dont like like a corpse 🙂

oh, nudes. they are so difficult. i LOVE nude lips and wear them basically every day. i can never find the right shade for me. i’m so fair that the lipstick just looks light brown on me (and therefore look diseased), so i just end up using concealer with chapstick and gloss on top. i need to find something easier…and less drying 🙁
