Does Too Faced Lip Insurance Lock Down Your Lip Color?

June 7th, 2010 by Karen 43 Comments

too faced lip insurance review

The Problem: Your favorite pigmented lip products disappear faster than Coolio’s rap career (OMG, Gangsta’s Paradise!). Is there anything you can do about it?

Too Faced says sí, se puede! Worn beneath other lip products, their new Lip Insurance lip primer ($19, available at Sephora stores and online) is designed to prevent color fading, bleeding and creasing while simultaneously ramping up the richness of lipsticks and glosses. It’s also jam packed with ceramides and peptides to plump lips and help restore natural collagen.

Too Faced took out all the guesswork from choosing colors, too, because it’s only available in one, which they call Nude. Nude goes on clear with a matte finish and has a light, non-sticky texture that feels smooth like butter. Being a huge fan of Too Faced Shadow Insurance, I couldn’t wait to give Lip Insurance a try

Oh, it feels *divine* on the lips, but apart from that and the incredibly adorable packaging (yay for doe-foot applicators!), I’m not overly impressed. I didn’t really notice better wear time or pigment with the lip products I tried it with, not with glosses OR lipsticks. And it made my lippies kinda thirsty, too.

I mean, sure, it feels great and looks cute, but is that enough for $19? Compared to good old fashioned lip pencils like Too Faced Perfect Lips Liner, it leaves a little something to be desired. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: C

Monday, Monday!

If you’re reading this right now, congratulations! You made it through Monday, girl! As Tabs would say, “It’s all gravy from here.” For me the day went by without any fires, and that’s always a good sign. The most exciting part of my day was reading about the new Apple iPhone! 🙂

I’m such an Apple nerd… Their stuff’s so pretty to look at and makes me feel more creative. I can’t WAIT to get one in my little paws and play.

What are ya doin’ tonight? I rented It’s Complicated again (LOVE MERYL!). Tabs is making popcorn.

Have a great night!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

The new iPhone does look amazing – I’m hoping that I’ll be pleased enough with iOS 4 on my 3GS that I won’t feel the need to upgrade. I’ll probably last as long as it takes my bf to come home with the new iPhone.

Three more days (all finals schedule, now . . . two two-hour periods each day).

aww too bad the primer doesnt work! lipsticks/gloss have a tendency of disappearing SUPER fast on me… maybe i will have to look into liners to help make them stay!

Ahh.. the new iphone 🙂 I am getting more tempted to hand in my blackberry and switch over! but it doesnt come out till july in canada so i have time to carefully think it through 🙂 still.. im insanely tempted! i think the only thing stopping me from switching is the fact that i cannot ever type properly on an iphone! although i do hear you get used to it… we shall find out 🙂 thanks for the post!

Liners make a huge diff! I really like the MAC Cremesticks. They don’t feel heavy and are nice and moisturizing.

Oh darn! I’ve been looking for some kind of lip miracle. I’m currently testing two Urban Decay products – their lip primer and their Ozone lip pencil (clear). It doesn’t seem to be doing much but I will let you know if that changes.

Yay I wasn’t too impressed with MAC’s lip primer either. I’m starting to think just applying a nude lip liner as a base is best.

Thanks for the review. I tried a couple of lip primers in the past but they didn’t seem to make my lip products last longer. It’s a shame to know this doesn’t work either. 🙁

I got excited when I saw this …. drat that it doesnt work. Im notorious for making lipstick disappear pretty fast because almost always, the middle part of my upper lip peels. . I remember buckling down and getting colorstay but that product isnt for me.

    Back to the search!

      Hi Nina,

A creamy, nude liner might work wonders for ya then. I sometimes fill in my upper lip with ’em to add a little staying power.

When you use it do you actually fill the inside of the lip in as well?

I have a nude liner somewhere. Ive not really used it …. 🙂

Yup. I line the outside rim and then just fill in the lips like a lipstick.

About iPhone – no, I'm not into those stuff and I don't like the fact that *everyone* has iPhone now like there's nothing else beside iPhone, lol. 😀 And they're too expensive. 🙂
