Dior Impression Cuir: Early Reviews and Swatches

Bust out your alligator pumps, white cardigan sweater, pearls and pencil skirt, and let’s explore Dior’s upcoming Fall 2008 Impression Cuir collection. YES!

rouge-dior-fiction-brown

I just received previews of two of the items from the upcoming collection (due out this August). Sometimes, I feel like brown can be a little boring, but when it’s done well, as I think it has been here, brown can be downright smokin’.

After playing with the Impression Cuir eyeshadow palette and Rouge Dior Fiction Brown lipstick this morning, I felt very much like a hot librarian in training. I almost wanted to don my glasses, put my hair in a bun and talk sweet, sweet dewey decimals. Fo’ reals!

The Impression Cuir Palette ($55) contains a trio of bronze, brown and beige shimmer eyeshadows embossed with a pretty alligator-skin pattern on the pan. The tiny sparkles give the shades a lil’ extra kick, but the colors in this palette are still very work-friendly.

In the picture above I’m wearing the beige on the brow bone, bronze in the crease and beige on the lid. I like how the colors blend seamlessly into each other. With these shades, creating subtle, yet sexy eye looks is a breeze. I can even picture the colors mixing well with greens, browns, pinks and purples. If you’ve been wanting to try Dior eyeshadows, let this palette be your gateway makeup drug! Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

Rouge Dior lipstick in Fiction Brown ($27) is a beautiful, reddish brown with just a hint of shine. The color invites enough attention without appearing overly dark or disco. This shade could easily function as a daily work color for me in the fall!

This was my first tube of Rouge Dior, and the first thing I noticed when I applied it to my lips was the texture. The formula felt very slick and moisturizing and reminded me of MAC Glaze lipsticks. The light scent of eau de rose and baby powder may bother some women with sensitive noses, but the fragrance isn’t taken too far. As usual, Dior does subtle very well.

I do wish the product were a little less expensive ($27 is a steep price to pay for a single tube of lipstick), but if you want to indulge yourself, Rouge Dior is the way to go. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A-

If these two new Dior products are any indication of the level of quality we can expect from the rest of the collection, then I’m going to need CPR in the fall.

Happy summer solstice! Guess what? Today is the longest day of the year. What do you plan to do with the extra daylight? 🙂

I am SO ready for the weekend, ya’ll. Got any plans for tonight?

    Hey Karen,
I love those shadows but they look pretty similar to some of the ones in the new Dior palette I recently bought so I will try to restrain myself! I really love their eye shadows though the quality is fantasitc and they blend so easily!

I remember you mentioning a while ago that you really loved the MAC becauty powders from the MAC loves Barbie range and I have just seen the one in Pearl Blossom on ebay and wondered if that was one of the ones you tried and loved?? And if so if you think it is worth a try??

    Hi Holly,

Yup, I love both Pearl Blossom and Pearl Sunshine. Pearl Blossom is the pink one; it’s just very beautiful, subtle shimmer that gives a glow similar to pearls… oh I love ’em both, and either is definitely worth a try. I’ve never purchased MAC on ebay, though, so be careful. While I suspect there’s lots of legit MAC there, there’s a lot of fake stuff, too. My friend bought a MAC brush on there that was fake and it turned into a nightmare for her to get her money back.

    Hi Karen,

Im not sure if the pearl blossom is too similar to my nars orgasm hmmm decisions!!

From what I remember of NARS Orgasm (I played with it once — it didn’t register on my skin) Pearl Blossom has a *lot* more shimmer and is a cooler pink. But it’s in no way obnoxious shimmer. It literally looks like a pink pearl when it’s on the skin, just soft and glowy and beautiful!

Hmm, is there any way to return it if you don’t like it? I’ve never purchased makeup from ebay, so forgive me if I sound clueless!

Karen do you prefer Chanel or Dior over Mac? It seems like most people prefer Mac that are on the blogs I go to. Other than the colors, is there a big diffrence in feel and how good they are in those brands?

    Hi Jess,

Hmm, good question. I like each brand for different reasons, but really don’t prefer one entire line over the others in terms of textures and wearability. For me, I think the difference lies in terms of the various looks each line creates.

The best way I can explain it is in terms of clothes. If I were to go to a work/church function, I’d probably wear something from J. Crew (conservative, classic). If I were to attend a beauty event, I’d wear bebe (a bit more edgy and sexy).

I feel the same way about makeup brands. I love MAC for the edgy/club looks and bright colors (but I know that the line isn’t all about edgy makeup, because within the line are also natural-looking gems like Woodwinked eyeshadow and Blushbaby blush)! Chanel I like for elegant, more conservative makeup (but at the same time, there are shades like Leopard Lipstick, which is va-va-vooom!). Dior I love for flashy eyeshadow looks.

Truth be told, I have lots of room in my heart for all sorts of makeup!

Do you have a favorite brand? Is it MAC?

Wow! Isn’t it a scorcher today?

I love that lippie, it looks very sophisticated to me! A truly elegant color! The browns just aren’t grabbing me, but I’m kinda grateful for that at this point! 😉

I can so see you rockin’ the sexy librarian look! LOL!

Girl, I wish I were close to a Dior counter! These are hot, but I will trust your reviews and swatches when I go to make purchases in August.

I’m really excited about this launch as well as Chanel’s next month. Dare I say I’m getting bored with all the MAC launches and feel that Dior and Chanel is offering something more substantial that I’ll LOVE forever.

    Hi Glosslizard,

I hope you’re staying cool in this heat. 🙂

The lipstick is kinda 90s for me, but I guess that’s why I like it. We’ll have to see what the rest of the collection has in store!

I can’t wait to see the plum shades, wheeee!

    Hi Tuprnut,

Both this launch and the Chanel one will be hot, that’s for sure. We have so much to look forward to in the fall!

BTW, not to be your Chanel pusher, but I think I might be hooked on the Inimitable mascara. I used it a few months ago and wasn’t wowed by it, but I got a sample in a GWP and now it’s really moving me. It has great separation!

This fall is going to be very pricey for me. There goes my budgetting. Lol. Let’s just hope I get a good paycheck out of my summer job.
Not too sold on the brown, but I can’t wait to have a look at the plum shades!
