Dior Creme de Gloss: Making Me Feel Like a Natural Woman

November 5th, 2008 by Karen 35 Comments

Only two words can describe Dior Creme de Gloss: Hawt Daym!

Released this fall, these babies have the look of a medium coverage lipstick with the feel of a non-stick gloss. They’re fragrance- and flavor-free and kinda remind me of Laura Mercier Lip Velvets from fall’s Cherries Noir collection.

A Natural (yet Sexy!) Lip Look

I tried two of the 14 Creme de Gloss colors, Delicious Plum (a shimmery cool berry) and Coral Elixir (a shimmery golden coral), and one layer of each was all it took…

Some glosses look goopy and thick on lips. They’re obvious and the opposite of natural, but not Creme de Gloss. It looks almost like something applied inside the lips, or blended into them. The result is a natural, yet still shiny and kissable pout.

Use Sparingly

For me, I think the secret to using these is to use them sparingly. I had to be careful I didn’t apply too much because of how highly pigmented they are. A little goes a long way. In these pictures I’m wearing a single thin coat applied with the doe foot applicator that comes with the tube.

Just for kicks, I tried applying two really thick layers and the results were a HOT MESS! I wanted to post the pictures, but to subject you to that horror would have constituted cruel and unusual punishment.

Suffice it to say, both shades looked scary thick and flat-out gross on my lips. I went to do some work at the computer, and within a few minutes gloss had started migrating and smearing outside of my natural lip lines. ‘Twas reminiscent of paparazzi photos of Amy Winehouse shopping shoeless at a 24-hour grocery store. Not good.

Dior Creme de Gloss in Delicious Plum and Coral Elixir

Price: $25.50
Use: A naturally shiny, highly pigmented lipgloss-lipstick hybrid
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

The Catch (There’s Always a Catch)

Obvs, they’re Dior, so they ain’t cheap. That blows, but because one layer provides such excellent coverage, I think a tube can be made to last a long time.

Hopefully, you don’t mind having to reapply your lip products often throughout the day because like most glosses these have an issue with wear time. They last about two and half hours, tops, sans eating or drinking, which wipes ’em out even quicker.

If you’re a lipgloss nut like I am, I think they’re sooo worth checking out. LOVE ‘EM!

From Christian Dior to Christian Bale

Comic nerds and lusty ladies, gather ’round! Rumors are circulating that C. Bale will play Marvel comic book sorcerer hero Dr. Strange!

“Christian is hot property right now, courtesy of Batman. Doctor Strange is a very different kind of hero to Batman and it’s felt Christian is the sort of actor who can make the part work on screen. It is understood a deal could be struck in the coming weeks.'”
—New Zealand Herald

I actually just watched a Dr. Strange animated movie with El Hub a few nights ago. It was the first time I’d heard of the character, but I thought the movie was great, so I’m hoping the rumors are true!

Judging by his choice of roles, it’s beginning to look like C. Bale has a hero complex, but whatevs! I don’t care. I’d still ride dirty with him in the Batmobile. Call me, Chris! 🙂

Karen

I just bought my first Dior Creme de Gloss and I was all, hello, where have you been? They feel so smooth and non-tacky on. I wish they would make them in more colors.

That delicious plum looks so delicious! At first I thought it was Patrick Dempsey in the picture because of the hair. I’ve never heard of Dr. Strange either but how come so many superheroes/villains got doctoral degrees? Maybe the pressure of grad school/med school/whatever school turned them that way? That’s my theory and I’m sticking to it 😀

I got one of these last winter and I LOVE it!!! By far, my favorite lip product. I don’t have a Dior counter anywhere near me, but my next stop to Sephora will include a few new purchases from Dior, that’s for sure.

The plum color is fabulous! It might end up being a little too bright on me though, because I’m kind of pale. I might have to investigate 😛

I love, love gloss. I have a ridiculous amount of it. I just hate when it’s sticky, so this sounds pretty amazing.

My favourite gloss! Dude did it make your lips totally smooth and moisturised after? I swear it made mine feel like I’d just exfoliated and slathered on some yummy lip balm. Just to be sure, I let two of my besties try it on (sharing Dior is caring) and yup, their lips felt heaps softer too (:

    Hiiii Karen,

Long time no read! My new job has kept me from the internet for over a month, but I’m having fun catching up on all your October posts. Whew!

My question: would I be better off trying these glosses or going for the Armani lip wax/stain thingies you tried back in early fall? I’m looking for something natural yet with a lil color while I’m at work. Thanks!

    Hi Asta,

Hey girl! Glad to hear that you’re doing well and that you’ve got a new job. Are you liking it? I hope so. 🙂

Hmmm… I would go for the Dior glosses. I like to apply the Armani Lip Wax with a covered lip brush, and at work I don’t always have the time to do that. The Dior doe foot applicator would be much faster.
