Chanel Spring 2009 Makeup: The Glossimers

December 29th, 2008 by Karen 29 Comments

It’s that time again, ladies … time for Chanel! And time to go buck nekkid lips courtesy of spring’s two 2009 Glossimer lipglosses ($26 each).

They’re new, they’re nude, and they’re ready to bust a micro-glittery move on that pucker.

Wild Rose (my *favorite*) shimmers as a cool-toned plum pink with teeny flecks of silver glitter. She’s a beauty worn all by her lonesome, but I picture her pairing perfectly with smokey brown and plum eyes. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

Beige Guitare grossed me out a little at first because it’s flesh-colored in the tube, kinda like Spencer Pratt’s fleshy beard, EWWW.

But I changed my tune after a quick swatch on the back of my hand. The color flashes from pink to beige to gold in the light, just like RuPaul, LOL! And there’s even glitter — hot pink, gold and silver — for extra credit.

From left to right: Beige Guitare, Wild Rose

Unfortch, when I wear Beige Guitare on my lips, it doesn’t look as pretty as it does on the back of my hand. I’m not sure why, but the color seems a tad too frosty for my lips and gives me a spacey, 60’s go-go night-clubbing time traveler look…

When I wear this in the spring, I think I’ll try pairing it with bright red and pink lipsticks instead of wearing it on its own. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B

Like all Chanel Glossimers, Wild Rose and Beige Guitare are slightly thinner than MAC Lipglasses but thicker than Givenchy Pop Gloss, and, yup, they’re kinda sticky.

A tube will set you back $26 (ouch), but you know how it is with Chanel. You’re getting quality, but you’re also paying for that golden double C logo on the cap.

If you’re like me, a card carrying member of Chanel Makeup Addicts Anonymous, then I think you’ll like Wild Rose, fo’ sheezy.

When you get a chance, stop by the Chanel counter to check out the rest of the spring line (I’ll be covering a lot more over the next few days).

WOW, I can’t believe it’s already Monday night. Where does the time go?

I’m off to watch Slumdog Millionaire with El Hub in a few. I hope it’s as good as I hear.

How was your day? Are you gonna catch the premiere of Whitney’s new show?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Wild Rose does look pretty but I’ll get it another time because I already have something a little similar minus the shimmer–Glass Quartz from the Aqualumiere gloss collection. Thank goodness Wild Rose is not LE so I’m in no hurry to buy it.

But yeah the collection has some gorgeous new shades. I bought Django and Vendetta vernis, Fandango blush, and I got the last Rouge Allure lipstick in Exaltation (it’s LE too! from the Holiday 2008). But I’m thinking of getting more like the new eyeliner because it’s like metallic/coppery brown and Rose Rebelle Hydrabase and maybe maybe the new eyeshadow singles (big big maybe).

Getting Wild Rose fo sho! How are you liking the JC Fandango? What’s the color like on you? BTW.. “gross” is such an understatement when it comes to Specer Pratt! I could dig up a couple more unpleasant adjectives to describe that guy but I will get booted out of your site! Spencer Pratt = %@#$$&***&^^$$!!!

I passed on Wild Rose the first time around, and now I’m thinking I might need to go back for it 🙂

Looking forward to your review of the eye shadows! I stopped by the counter over the weekend, and the sales associate did the most gorgeous eye look using Delta as a base and Magic Night and the Brun liner for a smoky eye. Needless to say, I went home with most of the eye stuff from the collection…lol.

Hi Karen. Beige Guitare does look gross in the tube in the picture. I’m excited to see the eye quad and new colours of Rouge Hydrabase lipstick. I feel Chanel always does something different for the Spring collection compared to other brands which come out with pastel, pinky colours. Last year’s Midsummer Night’s Dream was like a fairy tale, and I hope this year’s collection wouldn’t disappoint me. 🙂 Can’t wait to hear more about it from you!

I don’t know if I’m gonna spend $26 on those glosses, but they do look good! I’m already dishing out $60 for that AMAZING satin lip cream palette and $20 for Vendetta nail polish! I can’t wait!

Did you end up passing on the eyeshadow quad?

Ugh, did you see the episode where he made Heidi’s mom cry? I don’t know how Heidi could stay with a guy like that.

    Hi Evie,

That sounds like a really pretty eye. I’ll have to try that one! 🙂

The only thing I’m really not feeling is the brown mascara. Have you tried it?

    Hi Jojoba,

Yeah, by itself it’s just okay. But I’m sure it’ll add a nice pop to some brighter lipsticks. 🙂

Hope you had a splendid Monday!

    Hi Karen
Love your blog… have been a long time reader just don’t reply much
Anyways, a while back you mentioned Lash Addiction eyelashes for $6.00 each. Where did you buy these at? It seems nothing, for me, is clickable on their website and I’m very interested in trying these out.

Please let me know, and I left my e-mail so hopefully I will know when you reply to this!

    Happy Holidays

Wild Rose looks exactly like my cup of tea. It’s a bit similar to the glossimer in Blizzard that I own from the pictures but I’ll still check it out 😉

    Hey Karen,

I wasn’t feeling the mascara either, but I don’t really do brown mascara anyway, lol. I actually didn’t go for any of the lipsticks either, although now of course the addict in me is wanting to race back to the counter and try all of them on again anyway…

I was hoping for a more pigmented Wild Rose, but maybe I’ll cave anyway once I get a chance to swatch it! Never can tell with Glossimers!

    Hi Yadiq,

LOL regarding your honey knocking over the bottles! Did you hear them fall down? When I hear the sound of bottles falling over like dominos (followed by lots of grumbles) I know that I’m in trubs, ha ha ha!

Aww, I hope your day goes well. Are the kids still with you guys?

    Hi Evie,

Oh, yes, go and “visit” with the lipsticks. I do that often, LOL. If I am lusting after it after a week then I usually go back. 🙂

The brights in the Hydrabase line were some of the most interesting shades in the release… me likey!

    lol

yes i heard them fall and the grumbles ensued lol lol kids went home last night and where i love them dearly i need the break lol its party time when they are with us and they are away from their daily routine from their mom – hard to keep kids in check that way lol but they are good just very tiring since they are now heading towards being preteens its hard to keep em entertained. My fiance plays with his son a lot and i do lots of artsy things with his daughter including playing with makeup and clothes – of course she knows to never wear any of it outside- though i must say she is a connosieur of my expensive shower gels in the shower 😀 her fave these days is amazing grace.

i managed to put on half an eye of eyeshadow before i got wrapped up in projects not a good look lol funnier part is noone has said anything to me about it! shall i say – HOT MESS YO!

Usually any shade with “rose” in the name is a pretty good fit for me (the last rose lemming was Chanel’s blush in Rose Dust), so I am pretty likely to cave….

actually I thought I would like the mystic eyes quad but in person it didn’t look too good on me. But you know, since it’s not LE either i’m not in a huge hurry for that lol. But I do love their new single eyeshadows.

Wild Rose is my first glossimer, a YLBB colour and yes, they are a bit sticky.

I think it has been a good inevstition though, this might last a long time because it is perfect if you take just a hint. Then it is not sticky also.

The price? May I enter the Chanel Makeup Addicts Anonymous Club?

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
