Unsung Makeup Heroes: NARS Dolce Vita Blush

September 6th, 2018 by Karen 13 Comments

The blush BFF to all your dark, vampy fall lipsticks ($30 NARS Dolce Vita Blush)

What’s an unsung makeup hero? For me, it’s an oftentimes underrated makeup morsel, a permanent collection product that scoots under the radar screen of many makeup lovers but regularly rocks my world. The long-running Unsung Heroes series features some of my favorites.

Anyone who’s ever rocked a fall berry or red lip *and meant it* should own NARS Dolce Vita Blush. I started wearing it years ago to go with Dolce Vita Lipstick (that classic NARS reddish brown pink), but along the way I found out that it also ROCKS the heck out of other opaque, intense fall lipsticks, especially berries and brownish reds (but also chocolate browns and plums, too).

One swipe — literally, just one! — across the pan, and then buffed gently on my cheeks, and I look MUCH more awake. It also perfectly balances with whatever matte or satiny fall color I have on my lips without competing with whatever I have on the rest of my face (yup, even smoky eyes).

Plus, you can skip highlighter with it if you want, since Dolce Vita has a touch of sheen. Just a touch, though, so tell your pores to chill. They’ll be alright. 😉

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

      Hi Noemi,

I love them too. They have so many great lip colors! I wear the pinkish ones a lot all year long, and this one during the fall.

Have you tried their Tinted Face Oil yet? I’m dying to give it a go!

Have not tried their tinted oils yet.
I live in a smaller town, close to Toronto. So natural make-up selection is limited.

This lovely store carries most of the healthy make-up lines in town.
Kosas Cosmetics is one of them.
Let me know how you like the oils.

      Hi Noemi,

Ahh, I love Toronto. I was there a few years ago for a MAC thing. Thanks for the heads up on that site; there are few brands that I’ve never heard of before. Gonna check them out. 🙂

NARS blushes are the best! I love Dolce Vita- the pinks and roses mesh best with my fair complexion, so shades like Dolce Vita and Sin get more use than Orgasm and Deep Throat. thanks for the fall inspo- time to get out some deeper lipstick colors to mix and match with NARS blush. Maybe some deep pinks? I just picked up Chanel Le Rouge Crayon in Impact and Tom Ford Dangerous Beauty, wonder how Dolce Vita would get along with those?

      Hey Lorraine,

You could do Impact with Dolce Vita, totally. Hmm… Now that I think about it, I might wear that combo soon!

Isn’t that Rouge Crayon such a nice formula?

Yes, it is! Not too drying, comfortably light, doesn’t settle into my lip lines and leaves a nice stain as it wears off. Discovered as I put on a frosty pink EOS lip balm over the remains of Impact, that I have a cute ’90s feel option wearing those together. Those new Le Rouge Crayons really encourage makeup play. I hope Lucia Pica cooks up some new colors for the Spring/Summer collections. Can you envision a bronzy honey or a coral pink Le Rouge Mat Crayon? oh, boy, the possibilities!

Seriously, I would die. (Like I need another coral in my life, but still.)

I would also love a bunch of the Chanel eyeshadow crayons in every shade of brown and taupe. 🙂

Oh my goodness Ms. Karen — I just ordered that lipstick. I hope I got the right one– is it dark room? It’s beautiful – Oh my gosh – ouch. Oh well, it will be my fall treat to myself. I hope I got the right one. I finally found the U.S. site. I guess we will see when comes in. It didn’t say it was limited-edition. I’d fighting myself over the new Bite Beauty one but it wasn’t quite dark enough for me. Like I need another lipstick….. Thanks!

i’ve been meaning to buy this blush for ages— is it sparkly or just satin? I always forget! I’m into the less sparkly cheek thing lately, but I’m also not against some spark, lol

      Hi Jonirae,

It’s more of a satin. When I wear it I usually see a soft sheen. 🙂 Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks for this! I tan to your skintone most of life and have a hard time finding blushes as pigmented to show up. Nars Taj Mahal is my hg but obviously limits your other choices! Exhibit A is the most pigmented blush I own wait and full fuchsia by MAC /more wearable is bubbles please /

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
