MAC Makeup for Work: Club and Woodwinked Eyeshadows

December 12th, 2008 by Karen 34 Comments

Happy Friday, ladies!

I’m feeling retro today — wait, let me back up.

Get it?

Retro MAC, that is! I’m sporting two of my very first MAC eyeshadow purchases, Club and Woodwinked (both part of the permanent collection). I could write sonnets on both of these colors, as they’ve seen me through a lot over the past few years.

Club, a shimmery duochorome, flashes from green to brown, and Woodwinked is a warm, shimmery gold. Today I paired ’em for this easy, breezy, work-friendly daytime eye.

Club and Woodwinked

This is one of the looks I wear when I want to look kinda chic but not overdone.

To start, I applied MAC Cream Color Base in Pearl on the lid with a MAC 239 Eye Shading Brush.

Then, I applied Club on the lid, Woodwinked in the crease and Malt eyeshadow on the browbone with a Sonia Kashuk Large Eyeshadow Brush.

After that, I blended away the harsh lines with the MAC 217 Blending Brush.

To line the eyes, I used MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack on the upper lash line with a Laura Mercier Flat Eye Liner Brush.

I applied MAC Powersurge Eye Kohl on the lower water line and then added a soft line of Woodwinked on the lower lash line with the ever-handy Sonia Kashuk Angeled Eyeshadow brush.

To finish the eyes, I filled in my brows with MAC Eyeshadow in Concrete and the MAC 266 Small Angle Brush, curled my lashes and added two coats of Shu Uemura Precise Volume Mascara.

To hide my dark circles, I reached for MAC Studio Finish Concealer in NW 25 and MAC Minerazlie Skinfinish Natural Powder in Medium.

Cheeks and Lips

Because the eyes took some time, I decided to keep the cheeks and lips simple, sweeping MAC Dainty Blush on my cheeks with a MAC 129 Blush brush.

All done! I dotted an old school favorite, MAC Lipglass in Nymphette, on my lips and it was time to leave the house.

Crazy Cat Lady: The Action Figure

Last night I went to Border’s to get The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak, but while I was waiting in line I found the coolest thing, ever!

Seriously… welcome to my future. 🙂

How are you doing today? Are you glad it’s Friday?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

That’s a great look! I LOVE that cat lady thing, that could be me as I have three feline friends. But luckily I also have a hubbie and dog to keep me from going completely insane…I am so glad it’s Friday, only one more week of work for me then I’m off for two weeks, yay!

Pretty eyes! And LOLOLZ on the CCL action figure!

On a totally different (makeup) subject, I just painted my nails with Laura Mercier’s Caviar Dreams and I am in luuuuurve! It is an easy-breezy formula that covers like an oil slick! The downside is that any mistakes are tremendously visible, but the upside is that even I… Ms. “Gotta have at least 3 coats for maximum payoff”… was satisfied with 2 coats of polish! Add on the ol’ Seche Vite and my nails are shining points of black-pearly awesomeness! Just in time for the dojo Christmas party tonight! Yay!

Hope your Friday is most excellent! 🙂

    Hi Indian Girl,

Thanks! Aww… I heart Club so much and I wish it worked on everybody!

Even though you can’t wear Club (*tears*) what are your go-to MAC eyeshadows?

    Hi Glosslizard,

    Thanks! 🙂

I’ve tried LM polishes before and they’re great! I saw Caviar Dreams at the counter and I have been waffling back and forth… I’ll probably end up getting it, too!

You have a good Friday, too! Hope you’re setting into your new digs…

What an elegant look. I also like that you have been straightening your hair. Lovely!

My plans haven’t changed much this week – pack, pack, pack! The movers come on Monday and Tuesday will be my last day in the Valley.

    Have a great Friday!

So funny you posted this look today. I’m wearing club too! I did a wash of color on my lid using club and then lined with black liner and added mascara. That’s about all I have time for before dashing out the door for work. I haven’t worn club in so long though! I’m happy I used it today…I LOVE this color.

Yep a pet store and it looks like it! There is nothing in my house that isn’t covered with fur and we literally cannot wear black unless we put it on, lint roll like hell then IMMEDIATELY leave the house (then lint roll again in car or at work). It’s crazy, but I love those buggers.

Despite my massive MAC eyeshadow collection – I have yet to buy Club, well I take that back because I bought it right after your post reminded me I did not own it! 🙂

Also, don’t wait to buy LM’s Caviar Dreams, go get it! It is the most amazing nail polish I have seen in a long time – it flashes gunmetal, purple & green!!! I bought 2 bottles.

An update on the LM polish: I envisioned sparkling black pearl fingers and white pearl toes, so I also bought the Champagne Wishes white polish. The color is gorgeous, but it’s a much sheerer formulation, so while I was smitten with two coats of Caviar Dreams, it took five (!) coats of Champagne Wishes for me to get the desired level of opacity! It did come out looking beautiful, but it was a lot of work! So, for those who (like me) were hoping that CW is the icy counterpart to CD… it can be, but it is a lot more labor-intensive! 🙂

    Hi Gina,

GIRL! Now you must name all of your cats to secure your place in CCL fame!

Did I ever tell you about the woman I met at Target in the kitty toy aisle who claimed to have 29 cats?

    Hi Amy

LOL! I do that sometimes, too. I’ll go to the MAC counter and be like, “OooOO, what’s that color!” and then realize ten minutes later that it’s already at home. 🙂

What do you usually pair Club with?

Yeah, they were thin layers and I put Seche Vite on top of all. It’s actually stayed on very well so far (a lot better than most toenails have survived my red peep-toes in fact)! And now that I’ve been to the holiday party and our anniversary dinner, they can go ahead and chip! 🙂

Wow, I had forgotten about that book. ‘The Book Thief’ is an incredible book! I really loved it and it is so unique. So emotional!
And I also have the crazy cat lady action figure… someone gave it to me for my birthday. What does that say about me? 🙂
