MAC Sonic Chic, New View and Electro Flash Face of the Day

July 17th, 2008 by Karen 33 Comments

Hey, hey! I’m on my way to the BEAST right now (East Bay in Pig Latin, ladies) for work stuff, but here’s a quickie look I did yesterday with a few items from MAC’s new releases — Sonic Chic, New View and Electro Flash.

mac-mineralize-fotd-071708

The eyes

Thanks to the texture and quality of the products in these collections, the eyes weren’t difficult at all. I began by priming my lids with MAC Bare Canvas Paint and dusting the dark marbled green shade of Fresh Green Mix Mineralize Eye Shadow duo on the lid and barely into the crease.

Following that, I applied the light green color from Fresh Green Mix onto the inner part of my lid to brighten up the inner corners. To enhance the contrast of the green shades, I dusted MAC Brule, a matte beige, on my brow bone, and then further defined the eyes by lining the upper and lower water lines with Lancome Le Stylo Waterproof eyeliner in Noir.

On the the lower lash line, I used the purple shade from the Odd Couple Mineralize Eye Shadow duo, and to really open up the eyes I applied three (!) coats of MAC Mascara X to my lashes.

The face

I went with MAC Select Sheer Loose NC 30 all over the the face and MAC Dainty Mineralize Blush on my cheeks. Because I was in the mood for some pink and gold, I used MAC Nymphette Lipglass on my kisser.

At the last minute, I grabbed the Dark/Natural Mineralize Skinfinish powder and applied the light shimmer shade to the tops of my cheeks and the dark shade down my nose, across the forehead and on my chin.

If you haven’t had the chance to play with products from these Mineralize collections yet, I hope you do soon! I think the shadows, blushes and powders are more beginner friendly than usual. They deliver shimmery, soft-focus looks *great* for people working on their blending skills.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Ooh, lovely! I knew that Fresh Green Mix would look great on you! 🙂 Dainty keeps the whole look really fresh (I really love how it brightens and shades but doesn’t seem to compete with other colors)! Great FOTD!

I’m gonna have to pick up one of those Le Stylo pencils one of these days! Do you have a trick to keep the waterline from smudging and travelling? Does it last all day or do you reapply (or just let it go)?

Lovely! I love the pop of purple on your lower lash. You looked so fresh and chic in the picture Karen! If I’m not allergic to their mineralize stuff I could have bought some already.

Hey Karen! I’m loving this green and before you ask No I didn’t fall off the face of the earth…but it sure seems like it. 🙂 I am probably going to be MIA for the next couple weeks still. After I got back from vacation, work was crazy, then I took a long weekend for the fourth, so work was still crazy after I came back, and I’m currently in the thick of things with buying a condo…so I’ll be closing and moving in a few weeks. Plus my sinuses have been acting up for like the past week. And now that I’ve caught up, I’ve had another big project come up at work…so it’s still crazy. I feel like I’ve been treading water just to stay afloat. I’ve been missing the blog. I’ve been missing shopping (probably good…I mean paint doesn’t buy itself). I’m almost out of moisture surge though…and with the necessity status there…I’m going to have to hit a cosmetics counter soon… 🙂 Anyway I hope to be back into a routine in a couple weeks. So I’ll be sure to get caught up then.

Ya know, I have yet to see a bad FOTD with Fresh Green Mix on any blog, but yours is my favorite so far! It’s a lot like how I would wear it, not too dramatic but that extra pop of lilac on the bottom is suuuuuch a pretty and unexpected contrast! You look bee-yoo-tee-ful as always 😀

Fresh green mix… mmmm.. makes me want a salad!! lol 😛

I almost wanna get this but I am saving some monies for the new Lancome Maharani Jewels collection. Any chance of you doing a review on that? I am especially excited about the Juicy Tubes, elephant bronzer and eye pencils 😀

Karen, you look gorgeous! Does dainty apply well on you? Or do you need a couple layers for it to show up well??

    Hi Glosslizard,

Thanks! 🙂 I think it’s neat that Dainty seems to work on so many different skin tones.

Regarding the Lancome pencil, it doesn’t last as long as Fluidline, but it’s good enough to last a day at work. It’s not as fresh in the afternoon of course, but it’s still there after a few hours. I don’t mind that it fade as the day goes on. One of the reasons why I’ve been wearing it so much lately is because it’s so easy and fast to apply (much quicker than applying Fluidline).

    Hi Dao,

Thank you m’dear. That’s too bad you are allergic as these create such a lovely soft look that you might like. 🙁 Oh well, at least there’s lots of makeup out there to choose from.

    Hi Brittany,

🙂 I hope you try it and like it. For me it’s the easiest way to add bolder color without having to make it too obvious. Let me know how it turns out, girlie!

    Hi Megan,

GIRL! I am so glad you wrote in because I was actually getting worried about you. I know we don’t know each other in real life but I feel like I really get to know people when I chat with them on the blog every day, and I was wondering where you were and if you were OK. I’m glad to hear you were busy with exciting things. 🙂 Can’t wait till you get to the stage when you’re decorating the new digs. Now that’ll be fun to talk about!

Take care and hopefully we’ll talk soon!

Oh you could so rock the Fresh Green Mix in a heartbeat. I can totally see it on you. You could probably wear it with orange, too! Hmm, maybe I’ll try that next.

Hi Karen. This whole collection is not yet released here. I don’t know how much I will like mineralized makeup. I read that some people hate it or have allergic reaction to them, which is ironic because mineralized makeup is supposed to be inert and won’t cause any reaction. Guess I’ll just have to try them when they come. They look really nice in pictures.

    Hi Nosh,

Thanks, girlie. 🙂 I tend to wear pretty subdued color looks to work — I can’t really go crazy, plus, my threshold for really super bold is very low!

I dunno! I’ve briefly the collection but haven’t really closely examined it. The name is really great though, and very enticing. Do you think you’ll pick up any of your lemmings?

    Hi Kelly,

I used a few layers – about three or four. I applied it with a MAC skunk brush, though, which tends to lay color on with a light touch. The mini buffer brush that goes with the blushes looks REALLY GREAT! I want, I want! 🙂

    Hi Miss QQ,

I’ve read the same thing, too. I’m not completely sold on the whole mineral makeup movement (it could just be clever marketing) but so far I like what I’ve tried. I hope you guys get it soon. How long do you have to wait?

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick.
