MAC Cosmetics Mulch Eyeshadow Face of the Day

May 7th, 2008 by Karen 47 Comments

mac-cosmetics-mulch-fotd-3

I started this face of the day with one pan — ONE PAN! — of MAC Mulch Eyeshadow. From there, it quickly spiraled out of control into a look with seven different shades. I don’t know what’s going on with me, but I think it has something to do with an upcoming deadline. The more pressed for time I get, the more makeup I want to wear! I know I can’t be the only one who loves to procrastinate this way. 😉

Here are the colors I used starting from the left and going counter-clockwise:

  • MAC Beige-ing Shadestick
  • MAC Mulch
  • MAC Nanogold
  • MAC Showstopper
  • MAC Rich Flesh
  • MAC Next to Nothing
  • MAC Your Ladyship Pigment

mac-cosmetics-swatches-mulch-your-ladyship

The color map below shows where I put the different shades, with the exception of Beige-ing Shade Stick, which I first applied over the entire lid and then layered everything else above it.

mac-cosmetics-eye-map-mulch-fotd

  1. MAC Next to Nothing – browbone
  2. MAC Rich Flesh – crease
  3. MAC Mulch – outer half of crease
  4. MAC Your Ladyship – lid
  5. MAC Showstopper – outer V
  6. MAC Nanogold – inner lid
  7. MAC Mulch – lower lash line

Because I have to go to the office today (and should show at least a little restraint), I stuck to a light pink cheek and lip.

What I used over the entire eye

  • MAC Beige-ing Shadestick

On the upper lash line, and upper and lower waterlines

  • MAC Technakohl eyeliner in Graphblack

Lashes

  • Two coats of L’oreal Voluminous Carbon Black mascara
  • One coat of Shu Uemura Precise Volume Waterproof mascara in Black

Brows

  • MAC Concrete eyeshadow

To treat my undereye circles

  • MAC Select Moisturecover Concealer in NW 25
  • Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder #2

Face

  • Becca Luminous Skin Color tinted moisturizer in Nut
  • Becca Stick Foundation in Coffee
  • Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Powder

Cheeks

  • Sonia Kashuk Creme Blush in Rosey
  • Lancome Blush Subtil in Bronze Escapde

Lips

  • Clinique Tenderheart Long Last Glosswear SPF 15

I want to hear what makeup you’re wearing today and why you chose it. Now holla at yo’ girl!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

    Hey Karen,
You’re eyes look lovely. Really nice job. Like your hair color too…pretty.
I wore some of the same colors you wore today too. I broke out my MAC smokey eye pallet too, next to nothing and showstopper.
Somehow in my many years of collecting MAC, I haven’t purchased Mulch. I think I need to go check it out.

    Karen!

Guess who else is rockin’ Mulch today? I kept it simple: Shroom on browbone, Taupographic on lid with Mulch over Taupographic.

Mulch is one of my favorites, but I always keep it on the lid for some reason. I think I’ll use it for my outer v sometime this week.

    You look gorgeous.

    Hi Tonya,

Thank you! LOL, I should probably get my roots done! I have a bad habit of waiting too long and then one day I look and I’m like OH SNAP!

Nice! That’s the Smokey Eyes:4 palette from Smoke Signals, right? Isn’t great? That collection is probably one of my favorite MAC collections ever. What cheeks and lip colors are you wearing?

Yah, Mulch is really pretty even just on its own on the lid (which was what I was originally gonna do!). I get obsessed with it every few months. 🙂

    Hi Tuprnut,

Thank you my dear. 🙂 I guess it’s a Mulch kinda day! I usually wear it on the lid too (great minds think alike) but got swept away with the makeup application this morning, ha.

What did you pair it with on the cheeks and lips?

Oh, pretty! Sounds like a very fresh day look. I don’t have a lot of Victoria’s Secret Beauty products but they have some really cute looking liners and glosses. I rarely get enough time to peruse the makeup because I get distracted by the fragrance stuff!

I just finished eating my lunch so I have to refresh my Tenderheart now, yay!

I’m wearing Shroom under my brow, Mythology on my lid, and Contour on the outer corner and crease. Lips…an old Revlon R Pro lipliner in Mahogany and O lipstick.

I’m wearing it b/c I had jury duty this morning and was running late. I was planning on breaking out the new Fafi palette 1 I just got, but didn’t have time to play with unfamiliar makeup!

    Hi Crystal,

Oh pretty! Shroom is one of my go-to highlighters!

Did you end up getting picked for jury duty, or are you already on the jury? You are smart for refraining from the Fafi palette… savor it for when you have lots of time to play. 🙂 I’ve actually busted into unfamiliar makeup a few times when I was running late and lemme tell you I looked like a hot mess!

Mulch is one of the shadows I’ve been stalking for a while, I just haven’t committed yet! I might now though, after seeing that look! Wow! You take these neutral browns and come out looking Red Carpet glamorous! Nice! 🙂

Today I tried a look with some unnamed Tarte shades! I started with a sort of shiny gray-purple on the outer lid and crease blended into a peachy-gold on the inner. I used Brule for the upper and brow bone and then wet Meet the Fleet for a liner, finally blending some dry into the very outer corner to smoke things up a little! Black mascara, o’ course, Orient Sun bronzer and NARS Orgasm on the cheeks (lightly) and I keep changing the lippie! I started with Twig-twig and Astral glossimer, but I’ve been playing around ’cause I went and got Blue Comet today!

Oh, and I may have finally found a loose powder I can wear! MakeUp Forever’s HD Microfinish powder is amazing! It goes on smoothly, reduces shine without looking flat, and doesn’t dry out my skin or exacerbate little creases! It’s even passing the undereye test!! Woot! 😀

I agree with what others are saying, this is one of the best looks I’ve seen you do! You look very fresh and pretty! Love the blush, too.

Today I tried Tarte lock & roll creaseless eyeshadow. I’ve never had cream eye shadow NOT move, but so far this stuff is staying! I’m going to put it to the test and(don’t yell at me, my sister already did) sleep in it. haha We shall see!

Thanks girlfriend! LOL, I wish I was hitting the red carpet. Instead I hit the hot spot that is my computer at work! 🙂

Mulch is so totally stalk worthy. It’s very pretty neutral that goes with everything… Get it, girl!

Your look sounds very pretty; I do believe I know which gray-purple you’re referring too. 🙂 BTW, what brush are you using with Meet the Fleet? I will now refrain from going on and on about how the 266 kicks arse in wet shadow liner application!

Congrats on your new powder find. It sounds amazing. If I ever get over my LM loose powder fetish I’ll have to try it, for sure.

Hope you’re having a good Wednesday! Anything exciting happen today?

I did procrastination make up today – yay! I was playing around, so this may need a little tweeking. I love your make up though, you always look so pretty!

My face of the day! Perky paint pot all over the lid. UD’s Scratch on the inner half, MAC Humid on the outer half (blended over about 2/3 of the lid eventually), and along the upper lash line. Dusted Scratch over it after it was blended to tone it down a little. Hey form Fafi quad 1 along the crease, to blend the colours together a bit better, and Vanilla as a highlight. Bit of black fluidline and mascara, my usual face routine, Alpha Girl on my cheeks (I love it SO much), and chap stick on the lips! I’m quite proud of it.

I finally got my Naughty Naticals stuff through. I am so in love with Port Red it is crazy! Photo’s don’t do it justice. It’s the most stunning tube of red lipstick I have ever seen! Can’t wait to wear it!

I’ve got green eyes and red hairs, usually i’m using a make up like yours, but i never tried Mulch eye shadow, i use woodwinked lighter than mulch. I guess it’s perfect for everyday but so stilish, usually i wear Rouge noir n°18 (from Chanel Hydrabase collection) on my lips, or Guerlain Rose Entetant (from Kiss kiss lip stick).

    Take care.

Purdy! I like! I’ve been in a pink streak ever since I found my VOV pink shadestick. VOV is a Korean brand I think, the shadestick is very creamy and I used as a base => too lazy to open Perky paint pot! Did my eyes with some pink and brown mineral eyeshadows. I meant to tell you the trick of using a matte eyeshadow as a crease color really works. I looked so different this morning! To finish I lined my eyes with Teddy eye kohl from MAC which is so nice! Do you have that eye pencil? Then some layers of Voluminous to the fringe hehe.

I hope one day I’ll have the patience to use 7 eye colors like you do. My maximum tolerance is 4 which is a big improvement. I used to apply 3 colors at a time 🙂

    Hi Dao,

Guuurll. Open up that Perky Pot already! J/K!

WOO HOO to the power of the matte in the crease. It’s amazing isn’t it? I have really been into it, too. I haven’t used it with a pink/brown combo yet (love pink/brown and pink/green) but will have to try that in the next few days. Which matte did you use?

Yup, I have Teddy. Truthfully I don’t know where it is (oy!). It’s somewhere in the stash and I’ve been to lazy to look of it. It’s nice, yes?

Ha, seven shades is probably my max. The numbers go up exponentially with my deadlines.

Today I was in the mood for some red smokey eyes.

So my look for today was Artifact Pain Pot all over my lid, Mi Lady mineralize duo (red part) on the inner one-third, Cranberry in the middle and blended into Mi Lady, and Espresso on the outter v and blended into cranberry.. I paired that with Ornamental Lustreglass, Global Glow + Warmed MSF on my cheeks.

And M.A.C Brownborder Technakohl in my inner rims.

UD Gash Liner in my lower lashline with Richground f/l layered on top of it, and smoked out, which turned it into a bronzey-red.

Diorshow Mascara in Brown on my lashes.

Karen – well since I am traveling for work, I decided not to pack too much MU in case something happened to it. Sooooo… I have been sporting the same eye look for the past two weeks. I am using Urban Decay Primer Potion, MAC’s Paint Point in Bare Study all over the lid, Benefit High Beam to highlight underneath my brows, Benefit Eye Bright on the lid to make my eyes look awake, eyeliner (I have different ones with me from MUFE Black pencil liner to Bourjouis Liquid Liner and Cover Girl Line Exact), several mascaras (Prescriptives Fake Lash, MAC Plush Lash, Mary Kay mascara and of course MAC prep + prime). Oh I forgot I also have Benefit Brow Zings to fill in my brows.

Foundation by Bobbi Brown, MAC Natural MSF, MAC Shy Beauty BPB and one of the MAC Barbie powders.

Whoa! And Here I didn’t want to carry too much MU with me. 🙂

Ah well I’m very pasty, with dark hair and greeny-hazel eyes so Humid was made for me! I love the Fafi quad – it’s great for any time of day. I don’t get much use out of Pink Venus though – It makes me look like I have hayfever. Oh well, it was still cheaper than buying three shadows on their own!

I’m loving the NN stuff though. I got all the lippies and I love them. I’m saving Port Red for a night out I’ve got planned on Friday – I’m going to aim for a bit of 1950’s glam I think. Simple eyes, lots of liner and mascara, big curls in my hair. It looks amazing with Bateaux over it too (I got that and Love knot too… :D)

Today I’m rocking an Illegal Cargo (inner) and Satin Taupe (outer) combo on the eyes, with a little Pandemonium in the outer V, Bourgouis # 35 Lune D’or blush (it’s a pretty pale golden pink – I can’t use bronzer cos I’m too pale!) and Bhoy oh bhoy on the lips. A little black eyeliner on the top lash line, a little Satin Taupe under the lower lashes and a coat of mascara.

I love Illegal Cargo and it’s rather cute with Satin Taupe! I think I might have to check out Shore Leave next time I’m near MAC – I normally get everything online, so it’ll be nice to actually get to see the products!

    On May 7th I rocked
MAC Studio Fix Fluid followed by Revitalizing Energy Charged Water.
Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in the T-zone
    Gingerly blush
    Smith’s Strawberry lip salve

Usually I do more eyes and stuff but I’m fighting a viral based sore throat no antibiotics just pain pills, fluids, and sleep. I really like this eye though Karen! I work in a fairly conservative office and this could work. Thanks!!

GOSH. I’m always staying away from matte shadows but Karen, you kept tempting me!
Yesterday I wore emerald green top on purpose so I could work my green shadow. I had cash flow pp on browbone, moss scape pp on lid, bio green on lid and sable on crease, blacktrack and graphblack for lining, utterly frivolous ls and clinique gloss. Later that day, i went to MAC store and got minted eye kohl. I line my eyes with it. I love colored eye liners! The MA tried to push liquidlast on me but I’m so clumsy when it comes to liquid liner. I also ended up getting Lychee luxe, which I applied on top of Utterly Frivolous lipstick after a huge plate of wakame salad.
