Clinique Long Last Glosswear SPF 15: Pretty New Shades, Long-Lasting Lip Protection

April 9th, 2008 by Karen 49 Comments

Clinique long last glosswear spf 15 1

“Ohhhh, so purty!” I said when I first laid eyes on Long Last Glosswear SPF 15 ($14), Clinique’s latest lipgloss offering. “They’ve got SPF 15? I’ll take ’em all!”

I fall victim to any beautiful lipgloss colors with combined SPF protection. Check out these little lovelies:

Tenderheart
Clinique long last glosswear spf 15 tenderheart

Sunset
clinique long last glosswear spf 15 sunset

Fireberry
clinique long last glosswear spf 15 fireberry

Clinique has given us 18 new shades with this release, varying from sheer to highly pigmented…

  • Nudes: Goldspun, Brandy Twist, Knockout Nude, Sunset
  • Taupe: Cabana Crush, Juicy Apple, Bonfire, Guavagold
  • Pink: Cleary Pink, Fireberry, Bamboo Pink, Air Kiss, Kissyfit
  • Violet: Mystic, Whisper, Tenderheart, Stellar Plum, Rock Violet

Product: Clinique Long Last Glosswear SPF 15
Price: $14
Use: As a stand alone gloss or to layer over lipstick
Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+

Designed to last all day long, Long Last Glosswear’s formula contains special “film-formers.” Clinique claims they seal the gloss to your lips for up to eight hours.

I’m guessing the eight-hour estimate applies to robot women who ever eat, drink or smack their lips together. On me, the formula only lasts about four hours … but I can cut Clinique some slack here. They deserve it because in every other way these glosses impressed me.

Last night, I applied two layers of Sunset before heading to the gym. Four hours later, after guzzling lots of water and then eating dinner back at home, very little Glosswear (just a stain) remained on my lips.

Honestly, though, I’m not bugged at all. Clinique did a great job with these colors. They’re flirty, fun and the addition of SPF protection more than makes up for their inability to last a full eight hours. I don’t mind having to reapply a beautiful lipgloss a couple of times throughout the day.

Long wear formulas are often very drying, but Long Last Glosswear actually seems to moisturize my lips just as well as Clinique Superbalm does. If you like your glosses sticky, then you have yet another reason to take a closer look at these. They aren’t as goopy as MAC Lipglass, but they’re stickier than Clinique’s Full Potential Lips Plump and Shine.

With a $14 price tag, Glosswear SPF really impressed the heck out of me. These are top quality glosses for the money, and, with added sun protection, these deserve an A+. I can’t wait to rock every one of the new colors at the beach this year!

Happy Hump Day, girls! 🙂 I hope it’s sunny and beautiful in your neck of the woods. How has your day been? I hope you’re feeling rested and happy.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Fireberry looks delicious! I haven’t played Clinique in a while but every time you post, it makes me wonder why I haven’t! Especially after your holiday haul!

I’m heading over to Chanel this weekend for a Beauty Event so maybe I’ll pop over to Clinique then 🙂

Ooh, Fireberry’s so pretty! And ditto on the love for SPF products: it’s become more or less a necessity to keep my poor lips from burning up! I don’t know of any other wand-glosses with SPF (most are balms or in pots, no?) off the top of my head, so that’s very clever on Clinique’s part.

I got a full-size sample of another of their gloss formulas in Sunset and it is absolutely a gorgeous shade! These sound very worth checking out!

Heard a rumor (credited to Beauty Addict) that Saks is going to be doing a Clinique GWP, although it’s not up on their site yet!

BTW, I gotta mention that I have really been diggin’ CommentLuv! I get to check in here and then hook up with some other killer blogs! 🙂

I really like the last 2 you posted. Very subtle but pretty. And I totally think 4 hours is good for a gloss. I have to go try these out. I keep buying different lipglasses from MAC but a lot of them have too much of a sticky factor I think. And yeah spf 15 is really good for a lipgloss right?

    Hi Lilan,

Fireberry is super pretty in real life. I am wearing it right now, LOL. I think it just might be my fave. 🙂

Have fun at the Chanel event. I hope they put Gazelle on your pretty self!

Hope you are having a good week so far and that you recovered from your trip.

    Hi Rachel,

LOL, my bad! At least your makeup looks super cute! 😉 Sunset is so pretty… I bet it would be really nice layered on top of lipstick, too.

Anyway, are you a Clinique gal? What are your faves? I have a few, and today I thought about my old school fave: Black Honey Almost Lipstick. I can’t even count how many tubes of that I’ve gone through.

    Hi Brittany,

I think the staying power is decent for a gloss. Mine are always disappearing but I drink a ton of water throughout the day and more often than not I’m snacking on something, too! 🙂 I think Fireberry would look very pretty on you!

    Hi Tuprnut,

They are so fab and very moisturizing too. I am going by the Clinique counter to um, “visit” with more colors after I go to the gym tonight!

How has your week been so far? Mine has been zooming by. It’s been non-stop craziness at work, but hopefully tomorrow it slow down a bit so I can sneak in some blogging here and there. 🙂

    Hi Breezy,

SPF in gloss is super great. If I could I’d just smother myself in SPF, LOL. While I’m good about putting it on my face, neck, arms and legs, I am not always good about it on my hands, lips and feet! Hopefully this gloss help! I can’t wait to wear it to the beach. 🙂

I think Fireberry really is so pretty! I’ve been neglecting the beauty counters lately as it’s been so busy at work and with travels. I’m supposed to go to Tahoe to visit Mom again in two weeks and then Orange County again the week after that for my cousin’s baby shower!

I just want to stay home and play with makeup sometimes 😉 Do you have any fun plans for this weekend? I can’t wait to adopt Gazelle!

Tenderheart was my first lipstick color from Clinique, ah the good ole days! Sunset and fireberry are really cute colors and $14 is not bad at all. I found their glosses to be more moist than MAC’s and less stickier. I’ve gotta check them out when the next cycle of GWP rolls in.

I may have to “visit” these myself… maybe this weekend if the wee one cooperates.

This week has been good. I’ve pushed my weightloss/fitness to the next step and started on the Alli plan this week. I think it’ll take my body and mind a little bit to get used to the medication and stringent fat/calorie counting… but I already feel (just after a few days) my jeans feel a little looser around the waist!

Ooh I’m definitely going to have to try there. I got an email about their entire summer line and it looked really pretty. BTW Dao…Tenderheart was mine too. I still have a tube around. 🙂

OH and a HUGE TIP for the group – being that I use Clinique moisture surge religiously…I’ve found the trick that if you go to the clinique website. Click on store locator at the bottom of the page and then select your state, it will show you when GWP’s and other events are happening (within a 2 month time fram)and where. This is great for me because it seems like with all the stores around one is almost always having a GWP at any given time. Like in my area Saks is having one now and Macys has one starting on the 20th.

BTW Estee Lauder does the same on their website under the store locator, only you need to put in your zip code or the zip codes you want to seach because selecting the state only will not bring up the entire list for the state like the clinique website does.

Okay so you know me and my chronic chapped lips problem. Do you think the gloss will dry out my lips? I love the colors but the “Seal” aspect (I’m I’m not talking about Mr. Klum) makes me nervous. Seal screams dry in my mind. I’ve been using the Burt’s Bee’s shades to keep my lips moisturized with a tint. I want to try Kiel’s too but the look is just not the same, ya know!

    Hi Lilan,

I’m going to brunch with my girlfriends on Saturday, and sometime during the weekend El Hub and I are going to SF to visit the bookstore where we met (many moons ago). We need to plan a few vacations and thought that would be a nice place to get our books!

I want to stay at home, play with makeup, and then take a long ass nap. Ahhh, dreamy.

    Hi Dao,

I totally agree. The Clinique glosses are much more moisturizing and def. less sticky than Lipglasses. The Tenderheart gloss is super pretty and practically fool proof. This afternoon I just slicked on a layer and it barely took any effort, yet it was just enough to prevent me from looking undead, LOL.

I hope you “visit” with these too! They are fab glosses plus you can’t beat the SPF. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you and hope that Grace is cooperative! 😉

Congrats on taking this step, girl! I am proud of you. It’s awesome that you already see results. I remember the biggest thing psychologically was getting used to portion sizes… everything I measured out on my plate looked tiny and I had a really hard time adjusting (previously I had been able to get whatever I wanted in copious amounts). You get adjusted eventually though, and now I can’t eat as much as I used to pack in before.

Anyway, you can always hit me up if you need cheering on! I’m here for you! 🙂

There’s no real seal – it just feels like a regular ole’ gloss. I’m thinking Tenderheart would look good on you. And yup, they are very moisturizing! They won’t dry out your lips at all. If they do we’ll just switch you to the Superbalm. There’s always choices, yo!

BTW, I was at the drugstore the other day and I saw the Wet n’ Wild display and remembered “Pavion”, ha ha ha!

Clinique’s more known for their skin care, but their color line does have several gems! I have a soft spot for the brand because it was the first makeup I wore when I was a teenager.

I’ll try it when I get some cash again. Film assignments from school and subsequent cinema trips have left me quite broke once again.

Just a bit of concealer (I don’t need foundation luckily), mascara and a soft wash of Stila’s Icon eyeshadow. For early classes at 8.30am I need something hassle-free.
