MAC Colourizations Collection: This Dramatic Double Feature Stars a Teal and Brown Eye

July 7th, 2011 by Karen 81 Comments

MAC Colourizations Double Feature 3

Okay, so you how when you’re in the mood to do a dramatic eyeshadow look, and you start with just a few colors, but the next thing you know you’ve got, like, 10 different shades all up on your lids?

Welcome to my world, chica.

MAC Colourizations Double Feature 3

I don’t know what it is, but when I see all of those lonely pans looking up at me hopefully, I can’t help myself. A little bit of this one here, a tiny bit of that one there. OOH! A dash of this one to accentuate everything else. 🙂

Sometimes I wonder if I have some kind of medical makeup condition that compels me to use four different browns in the crease.

While it’s fun to get carried away doing complicated eye looks while completely ignoring the clock, I think it’s also fun (and usually more practical) to see what drama can be had with one or two shades, tops. The funky colors in the new MAC Eye Shadow X 2 Duos ($25 each) from the upcoming Colourizations collection are here to help.

Today I took Double Feature 3’s matte teal and chocolate satin out for a spin…

This smokey brownish teal look isn’t exactly what I’d call quick. It required more layering and blending than I usually have time for, (about 20 minutes just to do my eyes), but if you have a concert, a party or a club date with your girls and have the extra time to get ready, it could be a lot of fun.

I’m going to try to resist experimenting with any other Colourizations combos (CAN’T WAIT to try Double Feature 7’s bright fuchsia and black!) for the next few hours so I can wear this look out to dinner tonight. El Hub and I are celebrating our fifth wedding anniversary today, and the colors in the Double Feature 3 duo oh-so-conveniently match my favorite green dress. 🙂

Additional makeup worn in this look…
  • FACE — MAC Strobe Cream, MAC Studio Sculpt Foundation in NC42 and MAC Studio Careblends Powders in Light Plus, Medium Dark and Dark
  • EYES — NARS Pro-Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base, Benefit Instant Brow, Urban Decay Cannonball Mascara and Buxom Amplified Mascara
  • CHEEKS — MAC Semi Precious Mineralize Blush in Pressed Amber and MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Semi Precious Goldstone
  • LIPS — MAC Lip Pencil in In Synch and MAC Lipglass in Evolution Revolution

Anywho, what was the last dramatic eye makeup look you did, and did you use several shadows or just a few?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Wow, I love these dramatic eye looks (rates up there with the blue Nars look from a couple of weeks ago). I would love to see a video on how to do an eyeshadow look like this because I’m a total eyeshadow novice but I can see how it would be a bit difficult to tape if it took 20 minutes to create. If you are ever feeling generous though and wouldn’t mind posting a dramatic look like this you have a receptive audience out here.
Happy Anniversary! & please give Tabs a tummy rub-rub from me.

People tend to think of me as a simple girl, so when I put on a bright blue eyeshadow on my lids, they think it’s dramatic and ask me what’s the occasion. Come on now, can’t a girl just enjoy playing with colours? ;D

Hey Karen! I’m new to your blog (been reading since March) and I love it! Evolution Revolution also rocks and can’t wait for it to get back in stock so I can buy more! Thank u for this post. I’m new to make-up and I get so intimidated with tutorials of eye looks that uses so many colors. So this is refreshing to see what can be done with only 2 colors. I can’t wait until you do the double feature 7 look. I fantasize about using a hot pink shadow but afraid of it being too much. I know you will give me great ideas on how to wear it. Thanks again :). Happy Anniversary.

Hot damn! I love this one! That’s the pallets that caught my eye the other day in the swatches, do Noe I really have an excuse to get it! 🙂

The last complicated eyelook I did was last week for my boyfriend’s graduation. It consisted of a peach-colored steamy eye (Lighter than a smokey eye, but with the same concept and technique) and then some sweet black cat liner with a vivid hot pink line traced over the black. Ooh, and some 3/4 lashes to Finnish the blow. Actually went beautifully with my purple cocktail dress. Ugh, wish I had time to do that everyday.
