Unsung Makeup Heroes: Hourglass Velvet Creme Lipstick in Fever

November 21st, 2014 by Karen 30 Comments

Wearing Hourglass Velvet Creme Lipstick in Fever ($30) on my lips

This is the one Fever that you’d actually be stoked to catch. “But Karen,” I can already hear you saying, “I can’t afford to get sick! Between dating Ryan Gosling (hey, a girl can dream) and pet assisting for five cats, I can’t afford time off!”

Not to worry, friend. 🙂 This isn’t a Fever that’ll leave you in bed, clammy and immobile for 48 hours with sweat between your toes. This is Femme Rouge Lipstick in Fever by Hourglass ($30), a vibrant stop-and-stare fuchsia.

The long-running Unsung Heroes series features some of my favorite permanent collection products from a variety of bodacious beauty brands.

I wore this lipstick in my review of the Hourglass Ambient Blush Palette a while back, and ever since then — kid you not — I get at least one email a week from someone asking about it, and the emails usually start with the words, “I HAVE TO HAVE IT,” or something to that effect.

I totally understand, ’cause the first time I wore the lipstick, I caught it (the Fever). My brow broke out in a cool sweat as I swiped the tube across my lips. I think I may have also experienced a temporarily delirium. Either that, or RyGos really was sitting on my living room couch eating a wedge of gouda…

Hourglass Velvet Creme Lipstick in Fever

In a word, Fever is fearless. It’s a gutsy color, one to wear when you want attention. Might be a good option for those already thinking ahead to New Year’s Eve. You could do Fever on your lips, a little Chanel Fantasme on your lids, and bold, black liquid liner.

Oh, yeah! 🙂

I’ve got the Fever!!!

I love that I don’t have to do intensive prep work to wear Fever, either. No lip scrubs, or having to slather a thick layer of balm on my lips two fingers deep before hitting the haaaaay the night before. The formula is preternaturally smooth, and even when my dry lips are starting sh*t (I swear, my flakes could hold their own against a group of thugs in a prison yard), Fever still looks great.

Between the heavy-hitting hydration, hefty wear time (4-5 hours, give or take), and the bright, bold color, Fever heats it up. You can catch the Fever now at Hourglass counters and online.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Will do! My hair turned out great – my hair guy keeps experimenting with purple hair dye formulas & this time it turned out to be a deep, blue-based purple. You can’t really tell that it’s purple unless I’m standing in bright light but I’m expecting it will fade nicely. Added some more lowlights & face framing bright blonde highlights…it’s nice to go darker for fall/winter then “blonde it back up” for spring/summer. 😀 Hopefully I can snap a decent selfie in my car tomorrow before class…have to document the hair!

It’s supposed to be a balmy 51* here on Sunday (but rainy)! Looking forward to some relief from this early onset of winter.

    Okay, I got the Fever.

Just bought it. I have been searching for a pure, straight-up fuchsia lipstick for years (since the Clinique one I wore for my wedding went bye-bye). The shade has either been too raspberry, too bright pink, too something.

This is my first Hourglass purchase. I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to stay from the Ambient Palette.

        Got the Fever today!

It is beautiful – I would have liked it a bit deeper in tone but, hey, it’s fuchsia fever!

        Definitely a spring/summer color though.

Or a NYE shade! You could always pair it with a darker pink liner to tweak it a bit.

Yes, I know what you mean. I bought it before summer when I was looking for a bright pure fuchsia and I was amazed with the creaminess of its formula and the WOW of its packaging.
The only downside is that I have to keep it in the fridge if I don’t want it to melt during the humid summer months of my city.

After watching Project Runway Season 13, I’ve been wanting to try a brighter, pinker lip than I usually wear. This one just might fit the bill. Guess I will need to stop by Sephora with my DD to check it out soon.

I love hourglass lippies but I only gave a couple (they are a splurge). This one is still on my list. How does it compare to Nars Schiap?
    Looks great on you btw!

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
