What’s the longest you’ve ever had the same hair style?
Hmm… I’d have to say four or five years. I had basically the same long, dark brown layers from 2014 until just recently. Now it’s a little shorter, and I’m trying a center part, which is a new thing for me, and demi-permanent chocolate color, which is also new for me.
I also went about five years between the ages of 16-21, also that time with long hair with layers well past my shoulders.
I just realized something… Both of those long stretches when I had long layers were periods of massive change in my life, and whenever there’s a lot uncertainty in my life, I tend to stick to the familiar…at least when it comes to my hair.
How about you?
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

I have been wearing my hair above shoulder length and curly for the last 22 years. I generally wear it parted to the right. I rarely color it and it has been going grey slowly. In my younger years, my hair had many different styles. In midle thru high school I had a shag cut, the Dorothy Hamil bob cut, short hair and Sophomore year in college I even did the Barbra Streisand perm (reference to her version of “A Star Is Born”).
Be well.

Hi Jane!
I think every girl in the early ’80s went through a Dorothy Hamil phase. I told my mom (who is not a hair dressers, mind you) I wanted Dorothy Hamil hair, and she cut my hair into a crazy bob in our backyard, LOL!
So is Zack driving himself to school this year?

8 years and counting. I used to wear it long and then would cut it occasionally and donate it. I got it cut short 8 years ago, donated it all, and like my hair short so much that I can’t bring myself to grow it out again. It’s SO much more cooperative now, even tho I use a lot more product on it, it looks nice almost all the time. When it was long, it only looked the way I wanted it to look about 1 day in 10. I get compliments on my hair regularly now and it’s just so much more “me” than long hair was.

I change my hair pretty frequently. I would say once a year usually in the spring I get it cut into a new style. I feel it keeps my look fresh and current.

That’s cool, Nyxx. I was the same way before I got pregnant! I was always in the process of growing out my hair into another style, ha ha. What does your hair look like these days?

About 6 years – suuuper long layers, occasionally with a long bang (“face-framing layers” LOL) but about 3 weeks ago, I chopped off around 8″ to a shoulder-length lob AND I LOVE IT. I found I was wearing my hair up about 95% of the time because I didn’t want to deal with it, and by chopping it it forces me to actually take a hot second to style it. Being so much lighter brought out the waviness of it, too. I figured I’d stop liking it after a week, but now I think I’m going to keep it around this length for awhile!

Hi Christine,
Oh, lovely! I was in the same position — I mostly just wore my hair up so I wouldn’t have to deal with it. Have you had to change your products at all to bring out the waves?
Happy Wednesday to you!

A little bit – my hair has gotten coarser lately and I also have a lot more “sparklies” – my silver strands are much curlier than my brown strands. I was using the Loreal Air Dry balm and wound up switching to the mousse and spray from that line. I’m really wanting to try Living Proof’s PHD in shower styler. I forgot- is your hair naturally wavy? What products are you using?

I’ve had a lob of some variety with or without bangs for about 10 years

I have been wearing the same style for seven years now, with only subtle changes in the way I have my highlights done. With two kids and a change in job there was just too much going on to think about changing my hair, I guess.

Oh, gosh – I feel like I’ve had the same hair all my adult life. As I’m looking around at pictures, I guess that’s not really true. I almost never have bangs and almost always have a side part. My color has been the same for probably 10 years. It’s usually layered (sometimes long, sometimes shorter) and generally just below my shoulders. Every few years, I’ll have it cut a couple of inches above the shoulder but always grow it back out. I’ve gone with curly, on and off, which is how it is now. I’d say it’s probably been 5 years of curly (when I quit blow drying everything but the crown/bangs). I do find that I’m a horrible judge of time, though, since I’m older. It could be less than 5 years. 🙂

Other than a brief period with a lob and an even briefer period with bangs, I’ve had long, center parted red hair with no bangs since 2001. If it ain’t broke….
Sometimes I add layers and sometimes I remove them, but other than that it’s always the same.
