R+Co Trophy Shine + Texture Spray Takes First Place

May 31st, 2017 by Karen 16 Comments

Shiny, textured hair by a genius new hair styling product, R+Co Trophy

I’ve been loving a little texture lately.

“A little texture,” she says, as her hair expands into the firmament, LOL!

No, seriously! I’ve been into spraying a texturizing spray on my hair lately (mid-shaft) to kind of rough it up and make it look more voluminous (hopefully) and windswept, in that just-stepped-off the runway way.

But the thing about texture sprays is that most of them don’t do squat for shine. Most are matte, so if you want shiny AND tousled hair, you have to add a separate shiny product (usually an oil), but that can then weigh down your hair, thereby defeating the whole purpose of using a texturizing/volumizing spray in the first place.

OH, THE HORROR!

R+Co (pronounced “R and Co”) is a hair care line I’m totally obsessed with at the moment (I blame my hairstylist friend Alis, who lives, breathes and sleeps hair, for telling me that “This line is amazing, and their products will change your life.”), and they figured out a way to add good texture and shine in the same product with their new R+Co Trophy Shine + Texture Spray.

First place winner!

You get lovely, tousled, windswept action, along with a healthy dose of shine (that doesn’t look greasy). The product has clay in it for texture, and sweet almond oil for shine, and it’s $29 for a bottle…which hurts so good, but like all of the R+Co products I’ve tried, it’s amazeballs.

You could say that I’m a little enthusiastic about this spray (just a little)…

Use it on freshly washed hair (slightly damp) before air or heat drying, or apply it on dry hair before or after styling. I usually do a few sprays on my hair when it’s dry after curling with an iron. Then I spray a little on the mid-shaft section and go layer by layer. Then I rough up the waves by scrunching them with my fingers.

Here’s a helpful how-to video

Trophy has a great “memory” (quote, unquote), too, and it’ll remember where your hair bends and curls are, so, as you go about your day and your hair gets mussed up, it’ll remember (in a matter of speaking) how you styled it earlier and return to that shape.

Trophy lifts my waves, roughs up the strands for some cool-girl tousling, and keeps my hair looking healthy and shiny all day long.

And did I mention that it smells like expensive perfume (like all R+Co products)? This one smells like coconut and roses to me — a weird-sounding combo, yeah, but I think it works.

UGH! So obsessed.

Here’s what I’ve been marathoning lately

It’s a GREAT show on Netflix called The Last Kingdom, and it’s about Vikings…

Well, one particular Viking, but he doesn’t start out as a Viking. He starts out as the son of an English nobleman, but then he gets captured by Vikings and made into their slave, but then he wins them over with his boyish, warrior charm and joins the Viking clan.

Anyway, his name is Uhtred, and he rocks the half-up, half-down man bun like you’ve never seen it rocked before.

Seriously, though, the show is like Game of Thrones without the dragons. Great action and character development. Give it a go next time you’re in the mood for Vikings and/or historical adventure.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

Would you believe that I’ve never used a texturing spray? I must go investigate this product.

I keep hearing good things about this line! I’ll have to purchase something. Although I just purchased a few products from Briogeo, which I also love, so I may have to hold off for a bit for the sake of my wallet!

I love Briogeo’s heat protectant creme! I got it as a sample from Sephora and ended up buying a full-size bottle. I also tried their leave-in conditioning spray, but that one is just alright IMO. I surprisingly like my It’s a 10 leave-in spray better if I’m comparing the two.

Glad you like Uhtred – isn’t he gorgeous?!! I LOVE the show and of course, Odin and Freya like it because it has Vikings and killing – their two favourite things.

He’s easy on the eyes, for sure! Have you noticed his brows? #browsonpoint

Hmmm… Do you think Tabs needs a Viking name? He’s a little jealous of Odin and Freya.

The name ‘Thor’ would suit Tabs very well – a very masculine and powerful name, don’t you think? Have you seen the episode where Uhtred takes his clothes off and bathes in the river yet? Swoon…Be still, my beating heart…

    Hi Karen,
This is my first time reaching out to you, but I discovered your blog 3 years ago. I wanted to know what was the make-up you have on your face? It is so nice. A wonderful mix of bronze colors. I love the lip, blush and eyes. Please, can you enlighten me as to what you use? So natural and you look so beautiful.

      Hi Talnyc,

Thank you for popping in and saying hi! It’s so nice to meet you. And thanks for the sweet compliment on the makeup. I’m wearing a bunch of things from Lancome summer and a lippie from Tom Ford. I’ll have the Lancome summer post up in the next day or so, but for now, here’s a full breakdown.

Eyes: Lancome Metallic Liquid Eyeshadow in Or Farniente (base), Lancome Bronzer & Blush Palette in Patio Mediterrraneen (I used the beige shade underneath my brow and on my lids, and the bronze shades in my crease), Lancome Waterproof Eyeliner in Tempo Mediterraneen (upper lash lines) and Brun Frivole (lower lash lines), MAC In Extra Dimension Waterproof Mascara (lashes), MAC Brow Sculpt in Brun (brows)

Cheeks: Lancome Bronzer & Blush Palette in Patio Mediterrraneen (bronzer and blush), and Lancome Bronzer & Blush Palette in Patio D’Une Nuit D’Ete (I mixed the two blushes and placed them on the lower apples of my cheeks and buffed them out; you can easily skip this part if you’re looking to recreate the look)

Lips: Tom Ford Lip Color Sheer in Skinny Dip

If you have any questions about anything please let me know. Happy to help.

Thank you for sharing your technique on how you use this product—I have it, but I’ve had mixed results (though my already fine locks have been very sad and limp with nearly every product known to man the last four years—thank you for nothing, menopause!).

Do you like this product better than Oribe Dry or Kerastase Spray a Porter?

You look absolutely gorgeous in your photos. Thank you for always writing such fun AND informative posts!

Sounds like an amazing product! Will definitely give it a try 🙂

As for the Last Kingdom, if you are in the prowl for some new reading material, I definitely recommend the book series (I swear this is not one of those “oh but the book is so much better than the series” endorsement)! It’s by Bernard Cornwell and ALL of his books are amazing, really gripping historical fiction that’s a breeze to read and super interesting.

Thank you for this super fun post and a big hug from Brazil!

The last kingdom just moved to number 1 on my Netflix to watch list, I will start right after I am done with Gilmore Girls. Yes, the old ones, because I never ever had watched the, before (shock horror, I know). There is just so little time to watch TV now with the kids around…

Your hair is getting LONG! It always looks great but I like the beachy waves you’re getting with this product. You know as a child of the 80s, I like my curls to spiral and I’ve had good luck with Deva Curl (their spray curl activator). Speaking of, I’m attending a charity dinner with an 80s theme and my friends decided we’d have a Revenge of the Nerds theme. Now I’ll have to watch the movie. HAHA!
