If we didn’t have company over (Connor’s grandparents have a playdate with Ms. Thang), I’d be parked on the couch, playing with palettes and watching Midsomer Muders ALL DAY LONG.
I totally blame Jessica for this. She mentioned the show on Facebook, so I gave it a go, and now I’m straight-up obsessed.
It’s a detective show set in a rural U.K. village where you might think the most dramatic thing to happen would be someone getting a flat bicycle tire, but noooo! All sorts of sordid things churn in the village’s seedy underbelly… People are dying left and right of unnatural causes!
It’s pretty slow paced, even though creepy stuff happens, so it isn’t terribly stressful. I love it. I watched it every night this week tucked under a blanket with a cup of Sleepytime tea.
Anywho, that’s what I’m binging.
In other news…here are some things that caught my makeup-lovin’ eye this week.
- The search for Frida Kahlo at CVS continues (on that note, I’m quoted a few times in this piece).
- Are you one of those people who goes nuts every time you see the word “sequence” mistakenly used in place of “sequins”?
Yeah, me too. 🙂 But that really doesn’t have anything to do with this article, other than the fact that it probably contains everything you ever wanted to know about the history of sequins (NOT SEQUENCE).
- Disney just bought a cool technology called Makeup Lamps, which are kind of like living filters for your face. They paint your skin with digital pixels and can add makeup, shadows, lights and wrinkles.
Um…Disney? Could you please figure out a way to make this thing remove wrinkles?!
- I had no idea you could do this! Apparently, one can get their own bespoke Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer made at Bergdorfs.
- Just when you thought you saw your last unicorn, here’s a dude with a unicorn beard.
- Here’s some background on the two siblings behind ColourPop and how they used digital marketing to turn the brand into one of the major players in the beauty biz.
- Oh, Instagram, what will you think of next? Marble lip art is now a thing.
- If you can’t get enough rose gold, you’ll probably love Jouer’s spring 2017 collection. Super pretty!
- Long-wearing beauty products that don’t budge? Yes, please!
- The Viseart Petite Pro Palette is so dainty!
- And just in case you missed it, here are the goods on the delicious new MAC Fruity Juicy collection, the awesome and affordable Revlon ColorStay Creme Shadow (might be a good one to keep on your list if you go to Walgreens this weekend for the Revlon BOGO 50% sale on Sunday, April 30th), some new cheek products from It Cosmetics and the best drugstore false lashes around.
Have yourself an epic weekend, ‘k? Please do something fun. 🙂
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

You can have your shade of Sensual Skin Enhancer custom made?
*flees to Bergdorf*
Karen, it’s way, way early, but I’ve been watching “The Nanny” and it occurred to me that Fran Fine could be your Halloween costume for this year. You’re as funny as she is.
Karen says
I’ve actually never watched that show!
Jane says
Glad you’re enjoying Midsomer, it’s actually a county full of villages (filmed in my locality) where all sorts of murders take place for all sorts of batty reasons. If you watch “Judgement Day” you’ll see Orlando Bloom meet a sticky end at the end of a pitchfork!
Karen says
Hi Jane,
Ahhh! Craziness. I’ll look out for Orlando.
I just watched an episode with Vampire Bill from True Blood, by the way.
Kathleen says
Oh my goodness, Jane! You live (near) there! I read it was a real, re-named location on Wikipedia, but wasn’t sure if I could believe it! I’ve discovered the show is on Amazon Video so have just amped up my binge-watching! ?
Jane says
Hi Kathleen, yes some of the filming locations are near where I live, specifically Henley-on-Thames and Mapledurham. I go to Henley pretty often because my nearest Space NK is there! If you have a look at http://www.midsomermurders.org there is a comprehensive guide to the real life filming locations and details of which episodes they appear in. There is actually a real life town called Midsomer Norton in Somerset, maybe that’s where the author got her inspiration for the place names! Enjoy!
Kathleen says
Jane! That’s so great – must be lovely where you live. The landscaping and houses on the show are so picturesque! Thanks for the info – I’m going to go on the link for sure and feed my Midsomer mania more! : )

Karen,
Greetings from NJ!
I will personally take you to Bergdorfs and give you the tour while they make our personal Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer.
When are you coming to NY???
xoxo
Anne Marie (and little Rose)
Karen says
Hi Annemarie and Rose!
Oh, I would love that. It’s been years since I’ve been to NYC (more than 10). I’m hoping to go soon because it’s been too long.
How has your weekend been? We’ve had warm, spring weather here in Northern California.

If you like Midsomer Murders, you need to watch Grantchester. Like, immediately. It’s got the gossipy-small-village-with-a-bizarrely-disproportionate-number-of-violent-murders thing going on, but it’s much sexier, because James Norton is yummy.
Lulle says
That’s too funny, I’ve been watching Midsomer Murders for weeks! I was in need of a crime show that would be relaxing and that’s exactly what it is! For the past few months I’ve been avoiding realistic drama and dystopian future kind of shows – I feel like reality is hard enough to handle, thank you very much… I’m at season, like, 11. How far are you in the show Karen?
Deanna says
Hahaha, awesome! Pretty sure I’ve seen every Midsomer Murder (with the original Barnaby). It is always on TV here and has contributed to my warped view of England. What do you mean the whole country doesn’t look like Midsomer?? So easy to watch. Enjoy your bingeing!
Lillie says
How are you watching it? I can’t find it on any of my sources. Thanks!
Beti says
Thanks for the link share Karen! And yes the new Jouer collection is dreamy 🙂
