So…what is the Monday Poll?
Excellent question! It isn’t, contrary to its name, an actual poll, like with little clicky buttons. It’s just a list of five more or less random questions I’ve been posting on this blog every Monday morning for the past quadrillion years (since 2007). I love reading your answers, and it helps me get my week off to a good start.
1. What can you tell me about your toothbrush?
It’s green and white! I think there’s a little bit of blue in there somewhere too?
2. Weirdly specific question: what were you doing 45 minutes ago?
I was typing this post while sipping Earl Grey tea (with milk and honey) and contemplating whether to go find my morning slippers (it’s freezing this morning!).
3. Your thoughts on eggnog?
I would say that I’m ambivalent about it. I neither love nor hate it. I mean, if I’m around and someone says, “Who wants some eggnog!?” I’ll have a sip, but it’s not like I’ll chug a tall glass or anything
To be honest…I could go the rest of my life without having more eggnog and be OK with it.
4. Scars: do you have any? How did you get your biggest one?
I have my share, as most people my age do. My C-section scar is the longest one, and it’s longer than usual… It took a lot to get the Coywolf into this world.
5. Do you have any plans over Christmas?
We’re going to my parents’ house in Union City on Christmas Eve, where we have our annual feast, and then stay up until midnight (or at least try to, ha ha) singing Christmas karaoke and opening presents.
It’s Christmas week!
Raise your hand if you also have some gifts left to wrap. ✋ I only have a few left to do, which is truly a Christmas miracle. ?
I hope your week goes swimmingly. I’ll be at the bakery today prepping for the craziness of Christmas Eve, which means that I’ll be covered in powdered sugar very soon, and my shoes will be covered in frosting!
Speaking of shoes, thank you for all the recommendations for work shoes. The DSW near my house sells Dansko, so I’m going to try on these black and white clogs.
The print is kind of crazy, but that’s my favorite thing about ’em, LOL!
One last thing before I head out: yesterday Rosie and I watched a riveting program on Hulu called A Very Kitty Cocktail Party, and we both strongly believe that you need to watch it ASAP! ?
See ya in just a few!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Raising my hand! Got some wrapping left to do but the majority of it is already done.
1. What can you tell me about your toothbrush? It’s kind of pinkish and white. It an Oral-B pulsating one and I love it!
2. Weirdly specific question: what were you doing 45 minutes ago? Both of my bosses took me out to lunch today for Christmas so I was in the middle of eating. It was delicious and I am beyond stuffed! I now need a nap.
3. Your thoughts on eggnog? Like you, I can take it or leave it.
4. Scars: do you have any? How did you get your biggest one? Yes, quite a few. My biggest is on my stomach – straight down from belly button to top of pubic area. I had a few lymph nodes that went crazy that had to be taken care of. Apparently it was a rare thing called Castleman’s Disease. My surgeon said I was the talk of the pathology office.
5. Do you have any plans over Christmas – Christmas Eve at my mom’s house with my siblings and all the family and I am making Christmas dinner for my hub’s mom and sister. Unfortunately, both of my sons have to work both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. It’s night work so they won’t be able to enjoy the Christmas Eve festivities or enjoy Christmas dinner.
Hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday!
FaeFrau says
Yay! Danskos are worth every penny. 😉
1. What can you tell me about your toothbrush?
I have 3: a conventional plastic one at work; a bamboo “lazy” toothbrush at home; a Sonicare toothbrush at home. The bamboo one is “lazy” although I teach myself to brush with my left hand with it and I use it when I don’t want to use the Sonicare for 2 whole minutes.
2. Weirdly specific question: what were you doing 45 minutes ago?
Driving to Sandy Beach to enjoy the beautiful surf.
3. Your thoughts on eggnog?
Never. Had. It.
4. Scars: do you have any? How did you get your biggest one?
A long one down the side of my face (frustrated 5-year old) and one down the front of my shin, while trying to shave (took off the upper dermis–yikes).

Xmas Eve dinner with friends. They had to cancel the Thanksgiving dinner we were supposed to attend but everyone got sick so they’re going to reheat the frozen turkey!
Hope your family’s is beautiful and bright, Karen!

Happy holidays everyone!
Kate & Bree says
1. What can you tell me about your toothbrush?
It’s a kid’s brush! Adult toothbrushes are too big for my mouth so I use a kid’s size brush. Incidentally, that means it’s usually pretty cutesy but I don’t mind. I currently have LOL Surprise doll toothbrushes.
2. Weirdly specific question: what were you doing 45 minutes ago?
Opening my new box of clothes!
3. Your thoughts on eggnog?
I. Loathe. Eggnog. I actually don’t like eggs and anything eggy makes me gag.
4. Scars: do you have any? How did you get your biggest one?
Many! My biggest one is from a surgery when I was 4; my hip was badly infected.
5. Do you have any plans over Christmas?
No big ones!

The bristles are white and it’s a new-to-me “extra soft”. Apparently brushing too hard is a thing.

Werk. Well… trying to. My will to work is not here with me.

I’ve never had so don’t know
4. Scars: do you have any? How did you get your biggest one?
I have lots. Acne scars on my back. Some nice ones from ingrown hairs on my legs. My biggest one is one on my hip from falling on gravel and cement while jumping rope as a child. It wasn’t treated properly and now it’s a raised scar.

Ruchita says
1. What can you tell me about your toothbrush?
I bought an electric toothbrush a couple of years ago and I’ve definitely noticed a difference!
2. Weirdly specific question: what were you doing 45 minutes ago?
Folding laundry. Normally I do laundry over the weekend, but I’m off work all week so I’m catching up on chores today.
3. Your thoughts on eggnog?
Meh. Never been a fan of it. I would rather spend my calories on dessert.
4. Scars: do you have any? How did you get your biggest one?
My skin scars very easily, so even small scrapes last a long time. I have one scar on my shin from when I cut myself as a child and had to get stiches.
5. Do you have any plans over Christmas?
Going to have a lazy day and then spend some time with family in the evening. First thing in the morning, I will open the Secret Santa gift for the kitties. 🙂

5. Do you have any plans over Christmas?
I’m staying home alone, and am either going to go to the movies to see “Cats” (Idris Elba and Judi Dench in CGI fur? Count me in!) or stay in and paint over some leak stains in my closet. (The latter is more fun to me than it sounds.)

Eileen says
1. What can you tell me about your toothbrush? It’s a Crest rechargeable one. I change the brush head every three months and buy the refills at Costco. Changing to an electronic brush was the best thing I ever did for my aging teeth and gums.
2. Weirdly specific question: what were you doing 45 minutes ago? I was answering emails and checking bank statements.
3. Your thoughts on eggnog? I absolutely loath eggnog. I can’t tolerate the smell or taste of anything even remotely eggy.
4. Scars: do you have any? How did you get your biggest one? I have quite a few scares because I’ve lived and active life–lots of outdoor activities and sports. None of my scars are more than an inch, and over the decades they’ve faded significantly so they’re not real visible. My most recent scares were caused by the medication I had to take for two serious autoimmune inflammatory conditions. Since the medication was life-saving, I consider the scars my badges of courage.
5. Do you have any plans over Christmas? We already had a holiday get-together for friends and family so Christmas itself will be calm and peaceful. Both of my sons will be out of the country and so we’ll catch up with them once they return.
Karen says
Hi, Eileen! Even though your Christmas will be quiet, will you still be cooking anything yummy?
Eileen says
Yes, I’ll be cooking for my husband and my dearest friend and her significant other. They are also on their own this Christmas, so I thought it would be nice to have them over for a fireside dinner. I’m roasting a prime tenderloin roast and will serve it with a cognac sauce that is loaded with sauté mushrooms. I’ll also roast fingerling potatoes and a variety of veggies with herbs and garlic for something colorful and vegetarian (that’s me). I ordered a selection of dinner rolls from the bakery which I’ll pick up tomorrow along with the Bûche de Noël. Normally I’d bake my own, but with only 4 of us, it was easier to order a small “log” and let the pros handle it. My friends are in charge of bringing the wine, so I’m not sure what we’re having. I was promised a silky red that would go well with the tenderloin yet stand up to the vegetables‘ robust flavor. We shall see.
Melissa says
1. What can you tell me about your toothbrush? It’s a sonicare and my head for it has a blue band on it
2. Weirdly specific question: what were you doing 45 minutes ago? Browsing on my phone as we head off for Christmas
3. Your thoughts on eggnog? Yuck
4. Scars: do you have any? How did you get your biggest one? Yes – several. My brother & I were jumping from the dresser to the bed. I missed and got 7 stitches in my forehead at my hairline. I need to mention I was 2, he was 5 and he insisted for years it was my idea. ?♀️
5. Do you have any plans over Christmas. Heading to Cape May NJ for 2 nights where my in-laws are
Karen says
Happy holidays, Melissa. Safe travels when you head to NJ!
CL says
1. Clear and purple CVS toothbrush.
2. Reading emails and watching TV at the same time.
3. Don’t like it.
4. I have small chicken pox and acne scars on my face. (There was no vaccine for chicken pox when I was a kid.) My largest scar is probably my chemo port scar. It’s about 1.5 inches long. I still have the port. I’m not sure how bad the scar is going to be when it’s removed (if I ever get it removed).
5. Just helping fix a more-or-less traditional Christmas meal with my elderly mother and my siblings.
Rachel Runyan says
Wish you and all your readers who celebrate a Merry Christmas! Happy holidays to all!
1. What can you tell me about your toothbrush? It’s soft-bristed, white and neon orange, Oral-B (I think).
2. Weirdly specific question: what were you doing 45 minutes ago? Putting on my foundation.
3. Your thoughts on eggnog? I love it!
4. Scars: do you have any? How did you get your biggest one? Yes, I have a few scars. My biggest is from slicing open my foot on a rock or glass in a river in Ashland, OR when I was 5. The worst scar was where my left middle fingertip was torn off and reattached. Tissue was missing, so the tip sunk in and is a squared-off mass of scar tissue. My brother accidentally slammed it in a door, and it was cut off just above the nail bed on the top side, then diagonally across to slightly below the first joint on the bottom side. I was 16, he was 9 1/2.
5. Do you have any plans over Christmas? We’re staying home. My younger son works Christmas morning, so we’ll open presents tomorrow.

2. Weirdly specific question: what were you doing 45 minutes ago? Watching a terrible romantic Christmas movie on Roku.
3. Your thoughts on eggnog? If it’s 99% rum and 1% egg nog, I’ll drink it. Otherwise, forget it!
4. Scars: do you have any? How did you get your biggest one? I pushed my arm against a hot pot to scootch it up when making rice Kristie treats 25 years ago. Ouch! If I look at my arm, I can’t see it, but it shows up in pictures.
5. Do you have any plans over Christmas? We did presents today with my family, and we’ll do dinner tomorrow with my in laws. Then tomorrow evening, the kids, 14 and 17 year old girls, and I go to Starbucks and then drive around looking at Christmas lights. It’s my favorite part of the holiday!
