Addicted to Love and Makeup: A Halloween Look

October 28th, 2009 by Karen 78 Comments

Procrastinators, unite!

No need to worry. There’s still plenty of time to come up with a costume for Halloween. Here’s one idea…

Remember the pseudo backup band from the video for Robert Palmer’s Addicted to Love?

I felt like trying the black smokey eye/shiny red lip combo the ladies in the video made famous and used a mix of makeup, including the NARS Modern Love Palette, Urban Decay Book of Shadows Volume II, NARS Mounia Blush and the red lippie and gloss from Estee Lauder’s Ultimate Red.

Yikes! Eighties-style striped blush is harder than I thought. I kept wanting to blend it into a more natural look but had to resist the urge. 🙂

Happy pre-Halloween!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

    Oooooooh, that’s lovely.

Have you seen pixiwoo’s video on recreating this look?

    I think I’m going to do a pseudo-vampire make-up look. I say pseudo because I ain’t doing fangs. I. Don’t. Do. Fangs.

In other news, I get to see the doctor on Friday. I think X-Rays will be part of it. I hate X-Rays! I’ve had like a million X-Rays done in my life.

It looks great! I love dramatic smokey eyes. Wow – The 80s were all about BIG & BOLD. Just add some false lashes & you got yourself an amazing Halloween look 😉

I’m doin a repeat of my costume from last year. I only dressed up on Halloween night & didn’t do much anyway. I was a black cat but since Halloween has become a night of girls dressing as slutty as possible, my costume is customized to be pretty skimpy. It’s cute though; all black. My favorite part is of course the makeup! I’m going to do dark cat eyes but add bright green & yellow/gold to symbolize the pretty eyes kitties have 🙂 Then I use Black Tied es on the tip of my nose & draw some whiskers on with mascara. *I love kitty cats*

I really hope the kids in my new neighborhood trick or treat. In the last place I lived they either went to the mall or a designated neighborhood to get their sugar fix.

    Hey, Karen,

There’s a fundraiser/party in town this year that I’ll be going to… a local business burned down last year, and the party proceeds will go to help the owner rebuild (insurance glitch meant no coverage). Think I’ll attend in 60s attire… love cat eyes and go-go boots. 😉

If the kids do come by this year, you’ll have to tell us *their* Halloween makeup secrets. I bet it would be adorable!

You can never go wrong with go-go boots, especially white ones.

Oh, and if you rock the cat eyes then you must, MUST wear some big, bad false lashes too!

It seems like kids costumes are much more complicated now… I remember getting a mask and a plastic sheet with holes in the neck and arms, and that was IT. Now kids have full-on outfits, complete with wigs and accessories.

My mom called the doc today and guess what? Nothing’s open until like Tuesday so Mom’s taking me to the hospital to check out my wrists later. They’ve never been fully X-Rayed to see why I’m getting so many strains/hyperextensions/sprains/etc. Wrists take about 4 X-Rays each, 8 altogether. All I know is that they’re hurting worse than normal and for longer than normal so I need to get them checked.

How’s Tabs doing today? Zena is inside as it’s raining.

Love the makeup and costume. I actually did that a few years ago for a costume party in college, but I didn’t have a real guitar like yours as a prop. Definitely take red lipstick with you for touch-ups on Halloween because 80’s makeup is far from subtle. Love your blog!

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
