Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Match Stix Shimmer Skinsticks

Have cream sticks, will travel

It’s the little things, ya know?

Like the fact that I can stick these Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Match Stix, which have magnets in them, on my fridge.

“Fenty on my fridge,” 2017, by Karen

Officially, the magnets, which are embedded in the little tubes, are there so that the sticks cluster together when you have more than one of them in your makeup bag, thereby making them easier to find at the bottom. The fridge-sticking component is just a bonus!

Why I love this as much as I do, I have NO idea, but maybe it’s because I like having easy access to cream highlighter while I have my coffee in the morning.

Technically, these are cream-to-powder sticks, and they’re split among two different families in the line — the matte family for concealing and contouring, and the shimmers for highlighting and adding color to your cheeks, eyes and even your lips, if ya want.

I’m testing three — Wheat (a matte, which I’ll be reviewing soon), Rum and Yacht Lyfe

This post is about the shimmers, of which there are 10 shades for $25 each, and I’m testing two of them.

Yacht Lyfe (yes, it’s purposefully spelled with a “y,” and I think that might be a millennial thing?) is a pigmented coral-peachy-golden shade that looks amazeballs as a highlighter and/or a blush. I haven’t tried using it as a shadow yet, but methinks it will also look beautiful that way as well (especially with a warm matte brown in the crease).

It looks a lot like NARS Orgasm to me, except with smaller pieces of glitter that create a golden pearly sheen, which is sooooo Karen crack!

I’m also testing rich bronzed golden Rum, which is similarly packed with pigment and also has a pearly finish. For what it’s worth, when I eyeballed the other eight shades at Sephora last Friday, all of them appeared to have varying levels of pearl and glitter, with some of them looking more pigmented than others. All of the colors, though, are supposed to be universally flattering.

Everything in the Fenty Beauty line, BTW, including the Match Stix, is cruelty-free.

Wearing Yacht Lyfe on my cheeks and Rum on my lids

If you don’t like creams because they usually disappear on you, these may change your mind (and possibly your life!), because the wear time is legit. They last waaaaaay longer than the NARS Multiples for me, which these seem to be patterned after. Both of them have a texture on the dry side.

I wore Rum and Yacht Lyfe last weekend (it was hotter than a tabby’s tum), and every time I checked on them in my mirror, I expected all of the sweat pumping out of my body to have washed them away (side note: does anyone else get extra sweaty right before their period? No? Just me? I’m the only one?).

Nope, they were still there.

Yeah, girl, I was shocked, especially by Rum, which I had on my lids. When I put it on, I thought, “Yeah, whatever, this is gonna be gone in an hour,” but nuh-uh. Lasted all day, even without eye primer. That’s LEGIT.

I LOVE THESE SHADES!

Also, feel free to apply these sticks directly on your skin. They shouldn’t cause your foundation or concealer to shift, although I wouldn’t layer them on top of powder, because they don’t seem to glide quite as easily across powdered skin, for some reason.

If I said that I only kindasorta wanted to try more of these, I’d be lying, because I WANT THEM ALL. 🙂 Good on you, RiRi, ’cause these work-work-work-work-work-work.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. I’m also testing one of the matte ones, Wheat. I’ll have some thoughts about that one very soon.

I LOVE that you stuck the stix to your fridge!!! ???

Checked out the line in store and picked up the lipgloss for now. I have an order on the way from Sephora of something else but they’re offering samples of the Fenty foundation so am looking forward to testing it!

    Hi Karen,

Not makeup related but I was in London yesterday at a tube station and a lady walked past me who looked exactly like you. I had to do a double take as I was so excited to see you, then realised that you are probably not in London :). Hope you are having a good week wherever you may be.

Too funny, Victoria! This happens a lot. It’s funny to me because now I’m convinced I have a twin somewhere on this earth, and apparently she lives a jet-setting life because she’s all over the place. LOL! If I’m ever in London I’ll let you know. I actually do have family in the UK and may make it over again someday. 🙂

I think we must all have a twin out there scary. Kind of cool, kind of scary – can you imagine if you bumped into her? That’d be great, and it’s nice that you have family over here.

Ha! Love the idea of being able to stick it onto magnetic surfaces. Would drive my husband mad on the fridge but I guess that would keep the product fresh?? ? Love the shades and the versatility aound their use!

First of all, GAH over Connor Claire’s feathery tiara in that picture. How can she keep getting cuter?!!

I am so not into creams, as you know, but I really like the look of Yacht Lyfe so I’ll have to check it out.

The more I see word “Lyfe” in spelled that way the funnier it gets. What’s up with the “y”? LOL! While you’re at Sephora you might want to swatch the highlighting powders for fun. They’re SUPER shimmery, which is why I didn’t get one, but still fun.

You know, I’m with you on the ‘y’. It must be a young-person thing. Now, I feel like we might be only a few years away from yelling at kids to get off our lawn. HAHA!

Btw, I’ve been watching Top of the Lake: China Girl on Sundance. OMgosh. Do NOT watch it. I don’t have a daughter and still find it very upsetting. Season 1 could be hard to watch but this one is much worse, imo. 🙁

YAAAAAAAAS Gurl….I’ve been waiting for your review! I bought Trippin and the gloss. I think I might bring the gloss back. I love the scent but because I’m so use to wearing moisture sucking liquid mattes, I layer this gloss on when the shade wears off. Each time I layer, I feel the weight of the gloss and sadly my lips were peeling the next day. So sad but I’m going to stick it out for a week. I used Trippin on my lids and as a highlighter. I love the peachy-goldness of it, especially on my lids. It’s weird that it lasts longer as a lid shade than an actual highlighter but I always had a problem with the NARS Multiples longevity on my face. I still love this shade and now I want Yacht Lyfe — ugh, the spelling annoys me. Can’t wait to read more of your reviews!

I NEED IT! I love creams but they never seem to last! I’ll have to treat myself when I have more money.

OK THANK GOODNESS! I’m not alone! I don’t know why I never noticed it before but for some reason this time I’m exceptionally sweaty this time around. On the bright side at least I didn’t get a migraine this time. 🙂

I’m so excited about Fenty Beauty. Love how they’re so inclusive with their colours. I definitely want to support that and I think I’m going to buy a highlighter from them, they look gorgeous!

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
