The LOFT Riviera Sailor Shorts and J. Crew Gingham Button-Down Shirt That I’ve Practically Been Living In…

June 18th, 2015 by Karen 26 Comments

j crew gingham shirt loft riviera shorts

For all intents and purposes, I have been living in this J. Crew Factory Gingham Shirt.

Gingham, like ’90s lips, is having a moment right now (I’ve been seeing it all over the place), but even though I think this shirt seems pretty trendy and “now”, I also think it might last me a few seasons (I hope). Because print-wise, gingham’s also a classic.

But the print isn’t the only thing I love about this shirt. It also breathes, because it’s 100% cotton and feels very comfy. I brought it with me to NOLA last week, and no matter what I was doing or where I happened to be, whether on a frigid air-conditioned plane or slogging along a humid French Quarter street, it felt good and stayed pretty wrinkle-free throughout the day, which is a huge, huge plus.

Wrinkly clothes are the bane of my existence, I swear…

It’s available in a range of sizes, both petite and regular, and different prints, too.

Today I’m wearing it with a pair of coral LOFT Riviera Sailor Shorts I picked up a while back.

DUUUUUUUDE, I love these shorts. The color feels so summery, and I love the button detailing on the front.

FYI: the front doesn’t have pockets. Those buttons are just there for display, which is kind of annoying (because I’m all about pockets, because where else am I gonna keep the cat treats?!), but at least there are a couple of real-deal functional pockets in the back.

The shorts are available in coral, black and a gingham print, and they’re currently 40% off right now online.

I’m just sayin’… 🙂

Totally with you on that one! I’ve been wanting a pair of their denim shorts; have you ever tried them?

        Karen,

It’s funny you should ask about denim shorts! I finally found some that do not look like they were stuck in the 80s. I also finally found some that do not just look like cropped “mom jeans.”

I ended up getting Calvin Klein denim shorts (found them at Marshall’s) and I love them! They are so comfortable and are a bit longer length. The rise is also perfect and I don’t have to wear a belt since they are sized with the waist measurement. Highly recommend!

I also do Stitch Fix (are you familiar with it–I may have asked you on a previous post). In this month’s fix (I do every other month) they sent a pair of denim shorts. I did not end up keeping them because they were a tad too big but I loved them as well.

I think I remember you mentioning Stitch Fix. I’ll have to look into it because it sounds like something I might like. The only thing really holding me back from it is that clothes are so hit and miss for me when I get them without trying them on first, you know? I’m afraid that I’ll join and I’ll have to return most of the things. Are you finding that you like the clothes they send?

OK, I have a Marshall’s in my town! I’ll see if I can find those shorts because seriously I’ve been looking everywhere. Thank you for the rec!

            Good morning Karen,

You are most welcome for the jean short suggestion. 🙂

On average I keep two items from each Stitch Fix. You do a style profile at the start and they learn a lot from you with your feedback with each fix. You also leave notes for your stylist with what you’re looking for in your next fix. As long as you keep one item from each fix you don’t lose any money. The $20 styling fee goes towards the items you pick. Shipping to return anything you don’t keep is easy since they provide a pre-paid Priority Mail envelope. Most of their designs are exclusive to the brand. I suggest the every other month fix. I’ve actually liked everything in my fixes it’s just a matter of picking 2 items that I will use the most. I like getting a box of things that I have no idea what is inside. It’s not just clothes you can set it to also be accessories too. I kept a cute necklace my last fix. They also post a lot on Facebook so if you see anything you like there you can request it. 🙂 Hope you have a great weekend!

You have such cute style! It looks relaxed but still polished 🙂 I can’t believe the shorts don’t have real front pockets, though!

Yeah, me too! I keep wanting to put my hands in my pockets, but alas, that’s not happening.

Do you ever wear coral clothes?

Thanks, Pamela! And, haha, I may or may not have cat treats in my pockets right now. 🙂 There’s a little white kitty with brown ears in my neighborhood who I’m trying to befriend. Food bribery seems to be the quickest way to a cat’s heart, it seems.

Hope you’re having a nice day so far. Is it Friday yet?

So super cute on you! I’m loving that pop of color – there’s a great sleeveless button down at Loft in that same color I think I’ll pick up this weekend with their sale. 🙂

It’s definitely one of my go-to places for work clothes that are age-appropriate but still cute. There have been a few things that I wasn’t thrilled with the quality of, but I do appreciate the frequent sales. 🙂

Yep, and yours truly is headed to the barber to get my undercut freshened up. And I may talk to the barber about a tapered cut on my natural hair. I’ve found a couple of cuts that I like and if he can cut my hair in the style I want, I may go for it in the next few months. Kinda excited 🙂

Such an adorable outfit, Karen! So July 4th! I love gingham but I haven’t picked up anything yet. I’ve never shopped at Loft, and I don’t know why. But those are very flattering shorts, so I may need to go in and stalk them till they’re on sale 🙂

Karen, you have saved me so much time and stress lately!! I can’t ever find jeans that both look good and are comfy, then you post about the Old Navy Rockstar jeans. Instant love. I have awful oily skin that foundation can’t handle, enter the waterproof MAC foundation, also instant love. And now these shorts!! It’s so hard for me to find shorts the right length for my legs and a high enough waist, but these are so perfect! Thank you so much for having such awesome taste in things and sharing them with us! Your word may as well be gospel for me LOL

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
