A Little Obsessed With MAC Tropic Tonic Matte Lipstick

MAC Tropic Tonic Matte Lipstick ($16)

If there were a book titled, “Chicken Soup for the Makeup-Lover’s Soul,” I bet the cover would have a picture of something coral, because a lot of the time when I feel stuck in a rut or just generally blah, I turn to coral.

Like MAC Tropic Tonic Matte Lipstick, my latest coral crush. It’s one of the new $16 Matte lipsticks MAC recently added to their permanent line.

Like a slightly redder Vegas Volt with a flat matte finish instead of MAC’s Amplified finish, it looks particularly fetching (I think) with black winged liner.

Très retro-fabulous.

You can find it now online and at MAC stores and counters.

On the subject of MAC’s Matte Lipsticks, which are your favorite ones? Inquiring minds want to know.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Happy hump day, by the way. 🙂

Karen, I love this blog and MAC makeup, you’re totally an enabler of me buying more makeup!

Also, same skin tone so I know if it looks great on you it’ll look great on me.

I wanted to ask– what’s the matching lip liner that you’re using with this lipstick?

      Hi Pamela,

Love you back! So glad you enjoy the site. 🙂

So, for this lip look, I skipped the liner and used a lip brush. But if you want to use a liner, something like MAC Lasting Sensation would probably work.

      Hi Meg,

You described it perfectly. Bright yet soft! If you like this color, you should also check out NARS Lodhi. It has the same bright/soft vibe.

Hope you’re having a nice day so far!

      Hi Valerie!

Yup, good eye, the liner is MAC. I’m wearing Blacktrack Fluidline. 🙂 Let me know if you have any questions about it; it’s one of my staples and I loooove it.

      Hi Tara,

I hope that it comes to your counter soon. It’s a beautiful shade for summer.

Do you find Whirl or Runway Hit drying at all? Or are you one of those lucky ladies who can wear a matte lipstick without having to deal with flakes?

Beautiful color! Love the way you paired it with a bolder liner (and a bit of shadow? Looks like a plummy brown..) Since I live in Europe I have to wait until August for the new matte lipies 🙁

      Hi Isabella,

Yup, I’m wearing a little bit of shadow too. It’s the Smashbox Photo Op Eye Shadow Trio in Litho from the Nicky Hilton collaboration, but you can find it in the permanent line as well. And the liner is good ol’ MAC Blacktrack.

Hope you’re having a nice week so far!

I tried Vegas Volt and really liked the color, but I was looking for a matte version, so I didn’t buy it. Good to know Tropic Tonic is a dupe with a matte finish! My favourite matte lipstick from MAC is a limited edition and a oldie….it’s Lingering Kiss. I just like the vampy look that color gives you :).

About two weeks ago, I went to the MAC counter to pick up a backup of Spiked. That’s when I learned that the Matte Collection had been released. And Whirl + Royal (and Spiked) made their way home with me 🙂 I’m also a fan of Ruby Woo, which I thought I could never pull off because of the retro matte formula. All 3 lippies will be in heavy rotation this summer 🙂

I know! It does feel like foreva! I’m well, my friend. Just got back from another road trip to visit friends. I’ve purposed to do something of a little getaway every month for the rest of the year; even if it’s just checking myself into a local 5 star hotel to get some me time I’ve been keeping up with your blog though. I mean, priorities, yo’! And nothing says priorities like makeup. I’m still getting used to wearing Whirl & how it looks on me. I tried it with Chestnut but I don’t love that combo. I may have to cave & get the corresponding liner from MAC. I was definitely a kid in the candy store when I walked to the counter & saw that the MAC Matte collection was released. Surprisingly, I work da h*ll outta Royal. And big props for the Keith Sweat joke!

Oh, how fun. How was the trip? Where did you go?

So, Whirl is such a ’90s color. I think that after a few goes at it you’ll fall in love. (At least that’s what I keep telling myself when I wear deep ’90s-style browns.) I am SO GLAD that someone out there can wear Matte Royal and make it look legit. It’s definitely a bad @ss color, but not one that everyone can pull off. Did you do winged liner with it? PLEASE SAY YES!

Um, I may or may not have just listened to K. Sweat’s “Twisted.”

Winged liner all day, err’day, dude! TWISTED!!! Guess who’s about to jam to that right meow?!! And I’ll find a way to rock Whirl. It’s such a beautiful color and MUST BE WORN. Royal, on the other hand, gets me compliments & stares….it’s one bad-maima-jaima

YAAAAAAS! I think winged liner is a must with @ss-kicker colors like Matte Royal. You’re doing me proud, girlfriend.

So, guess who actually owns the CD single to Twisted with, like, all 12 remixes on it? LOL!
