Face of the Day with Laura Mercier Mediterranean Sea Eye Mosaic

April 13th, 2009 by Karen 51 Comments

laura-mercier-mediterranea-sea-mosaic-fotd-final

After seeing Laura Mercier’s Mediterranean Sea Eye Mosaic eyeshadow palette ($35) in the Daily Beauty picture today, some of you gals suggested I try her in my face of the day.

That was all the prodding I needed… Here she is in all her shimmery turquoise, royal blue and golden bronze glory!

laura mercier mediterranean sea eye mosaic fotd eye

For the eyes in this look, I added MAC Rollickin’ Paint Pot ($16.50; limited edition, but a good dupe would be Estee Lauder’s Sea Mist for $17.50), Chanel Fluid Iridescent Eyeshadow in Delta ($32), Cargo Plant Love Eyeliner in Midnight Blue ($16) and MAC Mascara X in Black X ($12.50).

The Mediterranean Sea Eye Mosaic quad is probably my favorite eyeshadow palette so far this summer. The shadows virtually melt into the skin, pack intense color and blend with ease.

Don’t these shades look bangin’?

Laura Mercier Mediterranean Sea Eye Mosaic

If the makeup gods forced me to choose between this quad or coffee for a week, I’d give up the java — OUCH! I’d be totally cranky, but at least my eyes would look smokin’ hot. 🙂

The possibilities for this quad seem endless. My mind’s buzzing with ideas for eyeshadows and liners I could pair with Mediterranean Sea, like maybe Estee Lauder’s Double Wear ShadowCremes in Blue Velvet and Antique Gold, MAC Paint Pot in Indianwood, Estee Lauder’s Duo Tone Eye Pencil in Aqua or Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Underground.

If you can take a beauty break this week, try to swing by a Laura Mercier counter, and check out Mediterranean Sea.

But gird those loins, girl, because it’s *that* tempting.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I am giving blue another go this summer, I always make it look so wrong on my face…

      Hi Citrine,

That’s the spirit! You just never know… perhaps you just need to find the right blue to fall in love with.

Hmm — how about starting easy with a super thin line of smudged navy pencil liner? You can ease your way into it.

Ooh! I usually pass by Laura Mercier but not this time! I will have to see this one. I’m not really liking the bronze but the other 3 colors more than make up for it – gorgeous look as usual Karen!

      Hi Paris B.,

The bronze shows up as super cool… more goldish brown than bronze, I guess. But yah, the mix of shades is fantastic! You’ll have to tell me what you think after you see it in person. 🙂

Wow what an endorsement!!! That works so beautifully for your coloring!!! I am more into neutrals and pale– I doubt I could get those blues to work. Is the other LM summer palette (mostly browns & golds) just as nicely textured? That’s more my speed… thanks!!

      Hi Amy,

Yes, the texture of that other quad is the same. You should totally get it so I can vicariously live through you. 🙂 I am so in love with the finish that I might have to break down and get that one eventually. GAH!

Hey Karen! I swatched this palette over the weekend and DIED. It’s gorgeous. Decided to buy it and guess what?! SOLD OUT. I couldn’t believe it! I’m seriously waiting for it come back in stock and told the Laura Mercier MA to call me. I want it that bad…and your FOTD makes me want it more! Gorgeous!

The item I did end up purchasing is my new HG lipstick – Boho Bronze. It’s seriously GORGEOUS.

    Hey Karen!

Yeah, I’ve been totally swatching & trying everything pink & coral that comes out to find my summer staples. Right now I am still on the MAC Blow Dry bandwagon from BBR & have been using that as my coral w/ some MAC Pink Grapefruit lipglass on top. However, i am itching for a secondary coral fave. Still need to try Tangerine Dream as when I saw it on you I fell in love…with the lipgloss of course. HA! 🙂 For a cool pink, i am anxious to try out the lippies in MAC’s Rose Romance collection with hopes something will work for me. For now though I have just been using Stila’s Lip Glaze in Ulti-“mate” Pink. I like it but not my fave. The scent is too die for though. I struggle with cool pinks at times because of my warm complexion. I look forward to seeing what you swatch and/or use in your looks for ideas. I get a lot of inspiration from your site. Thanks for all you do! 🙂

I have TONS of beiges and bronzes but virtually no blues–usually only wear blue for liner since I have blue eyes. Thumbs up or down on my lemming? Anyone can chime in here! LOL

Unfortunately, my wallet will be pissed if I buy this. I did find a GREAT quad from L’Oreal, however, that’s a pretty good dupe for this! It’s the Wear Infinite Eyeshadow Quad in Out of The Blue (5 to 7 dollars at drugstores and supermarkets). The shades include: Metallic golden copper, rich metallic deep bronze, sky blue with a slight green tone and golden green shimmer (think of the shimmer as the same shade as MAC’S Gorgeous Gold eyeshadow), and rich dark blue with subtle aqua shimmer. It’s SO pretty, and the only differences between the Laura Mercier quad and this L’Oreal one is 1. The price 2. Laura Mercier’s quad has a gold shade and this one has a copper shade instead, and also the lighter blue in Laura’s quad is more teal than sky. They’re both gorg, though!
