An All-Matte FOTD With the Buxom Suede Seduction Eyeshadow Palette

Trying an all-matte makeup look today with the Buxom Suede Seduction Eyeshadow Palette

Yes, you read that right — all matte! — which is a big jump for me because, as you guys probably know about me by now, I live for the GLOW. I like my eyeshadows sparkly, my blush shimmery and my lips glossy.

But I felt like challenging myself today with a look using all matte products, and the Buxom Suede Seduction Eyeshadow Palette, which is available now at Ulta for $40, has five neutral matte shades.

I really how it turned out! I’m surprised! I think it’s a classic makeup look. I certainly won’t be abandoning my hoard of glowy things, but I can incorporate more matte finishes into my makeup routine. I think this makeup would be very appropriate for a job interview or for some kind of professional pictures. I remember a while back that Marcella emailed Karen and all of us interns asking for advice on makeup for a job interview, and if I’d known about this Buxom palette then, I definitely would have recommended it!

The shadows are very soft and easy to blend. Plus, the colors aren’t too warm or cool, so they’re super versatile.

And here are some swatches of the palette:

I think this palette, by the way, is a classic. The powders are highly pigmented, but the colors aren’t extremely saturated. This is the kipalette you want when you need to blend out other bolder shades, or when you want a very understated makeup look.

Sure, these eyeshadows don’t get my pulse racing at a quick glance, but it’s always nice to have neutral matte shades on hand for blending out bolder colors. I also like that this palette comes with a tiny double-ended brush.

To be honest, most of the time I completely ignore the brushes that come with eyeshadow palettes, but I actually like this one. It is small, but it works! The pencil shape is good for smudging color along the lower lash line, like I did in this look.

Here’s a comparison of the double-ended brush that comes with the eyeshadow palette and a MAC pencil brush:

And here’s the deets on the rest of my makeup:

Dior Beauty Diorskin Nude Air Healthy Glow Serum Foundation SPF 20 in Shade 040 //  Dior Beauty Skinflash Radiance Booster Pen in 45 // Zoeva Luxe Color Blush in Burning Up // Urban Decay Matte Lipstick in 1993 // Glossier Boy Brow in Black // Dior Beauty Diorshow Lash-Extension Effect Volume Mascara in 088 Pro Anthracite (also mentioned in this post).

What about you? Do you prefer matte or glow? Or are you an equal opportunity makeup lover who likes a bit of both?

I totally live for the glow too but this matte look turned out beautifully! Everything looks so soft and natural from your eyes to your skin and lips. This is definitely a good look for photos and interviews! I really like the Buxom palette too. The colors are great for everyday looks. I may need those last 2 shadows in my life. I hope they’re sold individually

Thank you Fancie! You know, they might sell some shades separately. I love how you can make your own palettes with Buxom.

You still have a natural glow in this because your whole look is such a winner: hair, makeup, shoes, everything. So elegant.

I like a mixture, but I have never gone full matte before.

Yeah, full matte is definitely not in my comfort zone either. It was so hard to resist adding a little shimmer 😉

I like a combination of matt and glow. This look is so elegant and sophisticated. If I were looking for a new job this is the look I’d want to recreate and wear to my interview.

You are stunning and this eye look is fantastic on you! It’s such a romantic look. I’m a sucker for matte shadows (I love the glow but inevitably look like a very cheap lady-of-the-night if I add more than a teensy bit of shimmer on my eyelids) but I’m trying to decide if this palette is worth my very limited spending money. Anyway, it looks incredible on you!

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a.
