A Smashbox Holiday 2011 Face of the Day with the Click You’re It Palette

November 1st, 2011 by Karen 32 Comments

Because Smashbox bestowed numbers upon the pans of powder eyeshadow and cream liner in their new limited edition Click You’re It kit, following the included tutorial card for the “Golden Smolder” look this afternoon was a little like painting by numbers.

But not exactly. It was like a weird class combining math and art…and I’ve always kinda struggled with one of those disciplines, LOL!

Click You’re It is part of Smashbox’s new Snappy Holidays collection

I got a little carried away with the olive green eyeshadow, No. 15 in the palette, so my version of the look turned out more green than gold. I like the outcome, but it definitely didn’t go exactly as I’d planned.

Since the shadows in the palette aren’t highly pigmented — I’d give ’em about a six on a scale of one to 10, with 10 being “amazingly pigmented” — I ended up having to do quite a bit of layering. And it was a good thing that I had some makeup wipes nearby, too, as I experienced some wicked fallout with the green shadow.

Eyes and lips are from the Smashbox Be Discovered kit, also from Snappy Holidays

I dig this look, but I don’t know how often I’ll have the patience to swipe these shadows into submission… Maybe I’ll give ’em another try in a few days.

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. As far as Tuesdays go, this one wasn’t bad. I hope yours went well. I was hoping to go to the movies tonight because to see Puss in Boots (hey, what can I say? — I’m a cat lady!), but El Hub got caught in traffic on the way home.

What did you have for din-din? Can I offer you a mini Snickers for dessert? 🙂

Seriously, I really need to get rid of these things before I devour them all!

Olive greens looks really lovely on you. I’m a huge fan of greens too, but it’s a bummer that it takes more effort to make these eyeshadows work and I definitely don’t have the patience to deal with fallouts. =(

Is it just me, or are Smashbox palettes getting less and less pigmented all the time? I tried this one at Sephora the other day and had the same thought — too much trouble, not enough payoff. I have a Smashbox holiday palette from a couple of seasons ago that I don’t even get out because half the shadows aren’t worth using. Disappointing from a brand I usually like. Thanks for the review!

They’ve been inconsistent within the last year or so. I think somebody’s probably experimenting with the formulas or something, because they vary so wildly.

It’s a shame that this palette isn’t that stellar (fallout, not very pigmented), because I really liked last year’s Smashbox holiday palette! Oh well… that just means I can redirect more of my funds to Tarte and UD’s holiday offerings 🙂

No, I got the one that is about the same size as the Click You’re It palette. I forget what it was called (Wish, maybe?).

I agree that Smashbox is pretty consistently having pigmentation issues. I thought the In Bloom palette was a huge disappointment for that reason alone.

      Hi Carolyn,

It’s weird; some of the palettes I’ve tried from them in the last year have been okay, but others, like this one, needed a TON of layering. I don’t remember it being an issue in the years past… I wonder if they’re experimenting with their eyeshadow formulas.

Anywho, I did like the eyeshadows trios they released a few months back. Have you tried those?

I like how it turned out, too. Very pretty (but that’s awful news about the layering and the fallout).

We brought the boys to see Puss on Sunday and the Hubs fell asleep. The kids liked it, but I’d give it a C+ (and that’s a bit generous). It’s too bad because I love Puss; the story just didn’t hook me. 🙂

It’s funny you say that about the snickers. Our office has been saying the same thing all morning, just substituting their favorite snack sized candy bar. I’m personally happy that people don’t give out Halloween Chip Bags, or I’d be in trouble!

I’m really intrigued by their photography-inspired themes, but I wish their packaging reflected it with a relevant design…they might be able to really suck me in, then!

      Hi Nina,

Your dinner sounds delish. Do you put additional meat in your bolognese sauce?

Speaking of food, I just read a really yummy recipe for a crock pot stew with white beans, kale and kielbasa sausage… I need to dig out my slow cooker!

And, yes… I will take that Milky Way, thank you very much. 🙂

i saved you 4 milky way mini bars … i think youre going to love em! i went to the store to look for that candy again but i think its a seasonal thing. 🙁

when i make meatballs, the i keep the bolognese meat-free. most of the time though, ill just make a meat sauce and call it a day. the meatballs were an experiment, and it was successful. i believe ill make them again!

slow cooker FTW — i have this recipe for chicken breast, black beans, corn (love corn!) and some cream cheese that im going to try this weekend! 🙂

          Aww, you’re so sweet. 🙂

I figured you’d leave the bolognese meat-free… that would be a very filling meal if you left it in! So, did you grate the squash before putting it in the meatballs?

I love corn too! Especially white corn, or the roasted corn they serve at the county fair.

Gah, I need to stop reading food related comments when I’m hungry. My stomach keeps rumbling!

You look lovely as usual Karen, but it looks like I’ll be skipping this palette! I can’t imagine how you store all of your makeup, especially they stuff you aren’t crazy about. I would feel too bad to throw it away, but I know I’d never use it!

I really love Smashbox singles shadows, but their holiday palettes are usually a letdown for me. 🙁

I’m making vegetable curry and basmati rice for dinner tonight! And I have class later today, so I’ll get to see the boyfriend afterwards and we’ll share cookies for dessert. 🙂
