With the Smashbox Holiday 2011 Collection, Smashbox Is Making the Holidays Snappy, One Palette at a Time

October 29th, 2011 by Karen 10 Comments

Now pose for the camera.

[CLICK!]

My inner-shutterbug has developed quite a crush on Smashbox lately, and they’re back behind the camera again with another photography-fueled collection (remember fall’s Girls on Film?), this one for the holidays.

They’ve kept their lens zoomed in on kits and palettes this time around. The new Snappy Holidays collection features kits for the face, lips and eyes. Here’s a close look at two of the sets, Be Discovered and Click You’re It, of which the former isn’t listed on the Smashbox website yet.

Be Discovered Palette: Details

  • Price and availability — Unknown at this point, but I’ll update you as soon as I know. Smashbox’s larger palettes typically sell for around $59.
  • What you get — 45 powder eyeshadows (WOW!), three powder blushes, two powder highlighters, one powder bronzer, nine cream eye liners, six lip glosses, four mini brushes and a booklet with three tutorials.
  • First impressions — This kit is MASSIVE and could be a little intimidating. I think Smashbox could have done folks a favor by making the tutorials easier to follow because they don’t reference specific shades. It’s just like, “Grab your favorite nude,” but what if you don’t know which of the many shades are nude? Props anyway to Smashbox for keeping the cream and powder products separate, though. That’s always appreciated.

So far, I can say that I definitely dig the blushes.

Click You’re It Palette: Details

  • Price and availability — $49. Available now online and coming soon to Sephora and Ulta stores.
  • What You Get — 15 powder eye shadows, five cream eye liners, an eye primer and three doubled-sided how-to cards with instructions for six different eye looks.
  • First impressions — The way Smashbox numbered these pans was GENIUS! It makes following the how-to’s easy.

I do wish they would have placed the cream liner on a separate tier, but still, I can’t wait to play with this palette!

Well, what do ya say? Did Smashbox give Ansel Adams a run for his money?

Swatches coming soon! Hope you’re having a fab Saturday so far. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I agree Be Discovered is a little too much but the Click You’re It looks just right! I’m really loving Smashbox lately!

The Click You’re It palette looks amazing! I love quite some colors from the palette. I never tried Smashbox products before though…

TBH, I’m not blown away by this. Be Discovered looks sort of like a Color Workshop palette. I’m just not feeling the Smashbox Holiday palettes.

What doesn’t help my feelings is the fact that I bought their Holiday palette in 2009 and it was disappointing. 🙁 Pigmentation was subpar, and the cream liners they included were horrible.

I’m loving the number of shadow colors for the price, but how would you rate smashbox eyeshadows? I have pretty oily eyelids, so I’m picky when it comes to shadows because I don’t like to spend my $$ on something that’s going to fade or crease all up on me by mid-day.

I was wondering what you’d say about the overall quality of the Be Discovered palette. I also didn’t know if the shadow shades match up to any of the product colors or if this collection is a compilation of shadows specifically for the holidays. I was comparing this to the Photo Op Mega palette on QVC which contains all of the shadow shades from the current line of photo Op shades, and includes a plastic cover that has all of the color names. More so, the colors are all grouped by the trio they come from, so you can easily see the colors that are made to be used together, as well as experiment and combine any of the colors together. I know palettes can often lack quality and are filled with nonwearable colors just to make it look like you’re getting a good value (to me, the colors start to look the same). Just wondering and if anyone had any thoughts…

Just bought the Be Discovered kit today for $40 😀 It was on sale for $50 plus I had enough points on my Shoppers Optimum card to get $10 off … good day! Can’t wait to use it 🙂

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
