Like pearls, Sonia Kashuk’s new Classic Palette ($20) looks great either dressed up or dressed down, and it goes with everything! 🙂
Classic, with eight neutral shades for eyes, lips and cheeks, joins five other limited-edition holiday sets (remember the Starry Eyes Palette and the Twist of Fate Brush Set?) from Sonia.
The Classic Palette
- A matte light brown eyeshadow
- A matte dark brown eyeshadow
- A matte black eyeshadow
- A matte peach blush
- A shimmery nude lipgloss
- A creamy berry lipstick
- A creamy blueish red lipstick
Added bonus: It comes with four mini brushes, too!
Just gazing at the palette brings to mind a host of makeup looks…
- Maybe a black smokey eye with shimmery nude lips
- Or a brown smokey eye with nude or bold lips
- A simple (neutral) wash of color worn with some really bold lips
- A shimmery beige eye with black cat liner and nude or even bold lips
Creamy berry lipstick
Creamy blueish red lipstick
Shimmery nude lipgloss
Eyeshadows from left to right: matte dark brown matte, matte light brown
Eyeshadows from left to right: matte light brown, shimmery beige, matte black
From left to right: matte black eyeshadow, matte peach blush
And that’s just the beginning… I can picture these shades bringing out the best in bold colors like shimmery greens, blues and purples.
Sonia packed a ton into this $20 titan, making room for 14 items (if you include the brushes), which roughly breaks down to $1.43 each. EACH! What a deal, right?
Because the colors aren’t too cool or too warm, a wide range of women should be able to wear this palette well. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A+
Could be the right gift for…
- A beginning makeup enthusiast or a beauty-addict in training?
- A busy sister/mother/BFF who hits the road a lot and needs a portable palette
- A seasoned makeup fiend who never has enough staple shades
Mad for Mad Men!
Not that I needed more TV in my life, but I’ve become hooked on Mad Men. I’ve watched about five episodes in quick succession and almost feel employed by the 1950s ad agency depicted in the show, ha! I can see why so many people are into it. I think the writing, acting and wardrobe/makeup stylings (LOVE!) are top notch!
Lots of shocking, faux pas stuff go down in the show — blatant racism, mistreatment of women and other big no-nos like drunk driving and smoking while pregnant. I don’t know how historically accurate it is but I swear my jaw drops at least once every episode.
I blame the colder fall weather for my recent increase in TV watching. 🙂 It makes me want to snuggle up on the couch. What have you been watching lately?
In other news, did you happen to catch the meteor shower last night? I didn’t, but Tabs said he saw two shooting stars.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
Laura Benedict says
Love the matte shadows–They’re a welcome contrast to shimmery stuff. I think it’s no accident that they reflect the substantial, pop sixties colors that show up on the fabulous Mad Men episodes. Good taste all around!
Am trying to get into The Prisoner, and can’t wait until Thursday’s finale of Project Runway. (Despite the fact that it’s the dullest season ever.)

Hi Laura,
You’re so right — Project Runway has been very snooze-worthy this season. Not having Nina and MK there for all the episodes has hurt the show, IMO. I miss the days of Michael Night…

That berry lipcolor looks too good to be true! Your reviews of Sonia Kashuk products make me want to run to Tar-jay right now!

Hi Kajal Couture,
Sonia Kashuk is worth sprinting to Target! She makes great stuff that’s very affordable.

Hi Karen,
Did you start Mad Men from season 1? It is amazing, the last few of this year have been incredibly good!
Karen says
Hi Jess,
Yup, I’m starting from the first season. I just found out about Don’s long lost family member!
CC says
I really like these colors. They’re classic, but not boring – especially the cream berry lipstick. And cheers for Mad Men!! That’s one of my favorite shows, too.
Karen says
Hi CC,
I agree. What I love most is how wearable these shades are. One could easily rock ’em Every. Single. Day! 🙂
Hazel says
Ahhhhhh I must get this palette!
Karen says
Hi Hazel,
I hope you get your hands on it soon.
Maggie says
WOWZA, the lip colors look very nicely pigmented!
What a deal! 😀

Hi Maggie,
Totally! Love Sonia. 🙂
Kelley says
This palette looks great, but one question – are they fragrance-free? I am very allergic, and it seems like all fragrances (even if they are “natural” or “dermatologist tested”) bother me! I might make a special Target trip and read the label for this one! It looks great.
Karen says
Hi Kelly,
Unfortch I don’t have the box with the ingredient list. My nose is pretty sensitive, and I didn’t detect any strong scents. You should probably check the ingredient list to be sure though.
Steph B says
Loving the berry lipstick on you! This looks like a fantastic travel palette. My makeup bag on my last trip was way too big — and I generally keep it very simple. I’d add a nice purple (Heather or Aubergine from BB or Heather from Lorac) and mascara to round things out. I always keep a purple handy to make my green eyes pop.
Karen says
Hi Steph B,
Good call… I’d also throw in a creamy brown and black eyeliner, too, for layering. 🙂
Rose says
Thanks for the swatches! I always have a problem with pallets that have eye and lip products together. Do you have any tips on how to keep the lip stuff from getting yucky from the eyeshadows?
Karen says
Hi Rose,
I try to swipe the powder products away from the lip products. Also, if stuff gets up in the lip pans then I’ll gently run the edge of a makeup sponge along the top to remove the gunk. 🙂
Ashley says
Um WOW. I wasn`t really a fan of the Starry Eyes Palette but I would definitely dig into this. I`m not a lip gloss/lip stick type of gal, I mostly focus on my eyes but DAAAAAANG those Creams are amazing! All those lipsticks.. I can just imagine it on my lips already. I want it, now! Ugh by the time I can go back to the U.S., it’ll be March by then & this palette will be gone. Maybe Santa is reading this 😉

LOL, you never know! 🙂
Rae says
Oh my god — am I seeing this right?? A palette with lip colours that actually SHOW?! (And man, are they gorgeous.) I can honestly say there isn’t a pan in there that would go untouched by me.
Now, to figure out how I’m going to get this up in Canada =P

Karen says
Hi Rae,
Yah, I was really surprised by how pigmented the lipsticks are. This is probably my fave SK palette in a long time.
You guys need to get a Target, ASAP!

Wow! The berry and red lippies look amazing!! Very cute set for $20!
And noooo – I didn’t catch the meteor shower because I was inside slaving away at homework while also suffering from the worst allergies I’ve had in a long time. I finally decided to just throw in the towel at ~4am and just gave up. *sigh*

Karen, I LOVE MAD MEN! It is historically accurate, that is what it prides itself on. Isn’t that crazy? I really love the styling and makeup in the show. It’s so well done and pretty.
amy says
I like how strong the berry lipstick is! Nice and bright.

mad men is awesome. season 3 just finished last week and it was epic. the show is absolutely brilliant and is in fact very true to the times. right from hair, makeup and wardrobe to social/economic issues, sexism, smoking and drinking and god knows what else!
though, i do have to admit that the show got depressing at times, the fact being that it’s so serious and just the general way people/relationships were treated (especially women). but it’s too addictive to stop watching lol
cheers,
H.

Wow! I love that lipgloss. I’d pay $20 for that alone! I’m definitely gonna go pick this palette up asap! It’ll be like getting all of the eyeshadows, blush & lipsticks for free. 🙂 They can really be used for looks I use basically every day! Oh my – I can just see it now..
Be sure to take pictures of your creations made from this palette, pleeaasse! 🙂
Stephie says
Yaaa, that lipstick is SASSY. I love this palette. It’s a real nice combination of colors and tools. How neat. Are the brushes soft as well?

All these for 20 bucks?? Surely a very very good deal. And the colors are very pretty. How is the quality of these mini brushes?

Tess says
Yes Karen – all the racism, sexism and unhealthy and illegal behaviors depicted in Mad Men are historically accurate. When people talk about the “good old days” I ask “For whom were they good?”
Shefali says
Mad Men RULZ!!! Watch it from the beginning, if you haven’t already. It’s A-MAY-ZING!
Hazel says
I’d also like to know the quality of the brushes!
Marisol says
I am so hooked on Mad Men. I am all caught up and really enjoy the show. Lately, I have been watching Bones (hello David Boreanaz!), Glee, Vampire Diaries (getting much better), Grey’s Anatomy ( I want a McSteamy & McDreamy sandwich) and The Office. I can’t wait for Lost to come back.
