Smashbox Limitless Long Wear Lip Gloss: Make Way for Sheer Shine

June 3rd, 2009 by Karen 29 Comments

smashbox limitless long wear lip gloss final

You gals gave some awesome recommendations the other day when I asked about your favorite pigmented lip glosses, and they’ll be preserved for blog eternity in the archives! 🙂

I think we all appreciate highly pigmented products, but what about sheer, shiny glosses?

A couple of sheer lip glosses I reach for a lot are the Chanel Aqualumieres and MAC Cremesheen Glass. They’ve become standby products for me, but they might have company on my dresser soon; a new lip gloss line from Smashbox looks intriguing.

They’re called Limitless Long Wear Lip Glosses, and they run $21 each.

Smashbox loaded ’em up with SPF 15 and says the new line of six, sheer glosses lasts for up to six hours on the lips.

They’re both taste- and fragrance-free and feel thick without feeling sticky, which means my hair won’t cling to my lips every time a strong wind blows.

  • Boundless: shimmery coral
  • Nonstop: shimmery hot pink
  • Eternity: shimmery warm bronze
  • Infinite: shimmery beige
  • Endless: shimmery plum
  • Forever: shimmery rose

I don’t have pics of them on my lips yet, but I’ll post some along with a full review soon. From the swatches on my arm, though, I can tell they’re pigmented a lot like Chanel Aqualumiere glosses are — the more pigmented of the two sheer glosses I usually reach for.

As for the formula, it feels significantly thicker and stickier than either Chanel’s and MAC’s sheer glosses, and I think that’s because it’s really meant to last (long-wearing).

Smashbox priced these glosses about halfway between the MAC Cremesheen Glasses ($18) and Chanel’s Aqualumieres ($27). I’m hoping the combination of sheer color, shine and staying power adds up to good value.

What do you think? Do any really stand out? Boundless and Nonstop are kind of rockin’ my boat…

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I’ve been stalking these lipglosses since they released. Always swatching them at Sephora & being intrigued with every ad or pic i spot. However, i’ve been anxiously waiting for one of my fave bloggers out there to give them a shout out & review. I am so glad to see that your first impressions are positive & can’t wait to hear what you have to say & what grade you give them after trying them out on your lips. If you give them an “A” I will finally succumb to purchasing one or two. They are just beautiful colors & the whole long-wearing, not sticky, SPF thing is right up my alley. Thanks so much Karen!

      Hi Nicole15,

Sure thing… I will hopefully be able to put a post up on them soon.

I dunno if long-wearing AND non-sticky is possible, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Which shades do you think you might get?

Boundless and Endless both look pretty (well, they all do!), I’m looking forward to the lip swatches! Texture-wise, how do you think they compare to Clinique’s Long-Lasting Lipglosses?

      Hi Glosslizard,

They felt similarly thick, but as for the stickiness versus the Clinique glosses I’ll have to wait to weigh in. Smashbox says their non-tacky, so I’m going to keep my fingers crosse.

I am with Glosslizard, boundless/endless look like something I would wear all the time…But I hate sticky/thick gloss though, they make my lips look like two sausages…

      Hi Citrine,

I kinda wish my lips looked more sausage-y (is that word?), LOL! I feel like mine’s are kinda thin, but oh well. You gotta work what the powers-that-be gave ya. 🙂

That’s one of my faves, too. You can never go wrong with a shimmery bronze.

      Hi Maggie,

I like them but sometimes have trubs if the undertones are too cool. Do you usually wear yours creamy nude glosses by themselves, or do you layer them on top of other lipsticks?

I really want to give a few of these colors a try, I only wear long lasting gloss and non stop looks very pretty.

      Hi Ruth,

What long lasting glosses are your faves? Have you tried the Clinique ones? They’re really great, but super sticky!

Thanks for the pics, Karen. 🙂

I could see myself picking up Endless or Eternity, and I’d like to check out Boundless, too. I love the non-sticky formula from the glosses I own; the only lipgloss I’ve ever finished was from Smashbox. I can’t have a makeup bag without Bombshell or 35mm, although they’ve changed the color on the latter recently.

I’m looking forward to trying these on.

      Hi Elena,

You’re welcome! I’ve heard great things about 35mm… one of these days I’m gonna snag me a tube. 🙂

After reading your comment about finishing your tube I started thinking about the last lipgloss I finished. I think it was MAC Lychee Luxe. 🙂

I bought Infinite and there’s no color to it. It doesn’t last one second longer than any other lipgloss either. Big disappointment in this particular color.

Karen – I’m a bright summer lip kind of gal so i was thinking Boundless or Nonstop. But, Eternity does look like a nice color to warm up any lippie. Good combo color as i don’t think it would show much if worn alone on my lips. Time will tell…

Nonstop looks *awesome*. Endless is pretty too, but I have glosses in similar colors. But if it’s not uber sticky I might try it.

Actually, now that I’ve taken a second look, Boundless looks rather nice as well…

Endless looks gorgeous – think it can be amped up with lipliner underneath or wear it sheer. Alas, we don’t have Smashbox in Singapore – can only drool at the pics…

So I just got mine on Monday (with 20% from the Friends & Fam discount holla!) and I’m loving it. My lips are on the sensitive side so I’m addicted to lip balm and feel like Tyrone Biggums without it. The gloss definitely left my lips hydrated throughout work, about 8 hours. I re-applied after lunch and two other times. It was a bit sticky for me but I liked how my lips still felt moisturized. I have it in Endless. The color is sheer but it’s still pretty on its own. I love that it has SPF and it smells a bit like Neutrogena sunblocks which I love. The only problem was my hair sticking to my lips during my lunch time walk. I work in San Francisco and it’s super windy right now, so not sexy walking around and your hair attached to your lips. Anyhoo, I’m a fan!
