NYX Special Effects Lashes: Crazy False Lashes at a Crazy Good Price

October 22nd, 2010 by Karen 35 Comments

Wow, how fun are these NYX Special Effects Lashes ($10; available in 40 styles)? I’m building up the courage to wear the brown spotted Leopard ones out in public, and I’m almost there. I’m thinking mall date, perhaps?

Electric blue Midnight Walts is another story… I’m reserving that one for private, in-home displays of cray-cray. I feel très Looney Tunes with ’em on, not gonna lie.

I love how many there are to choose from (40 in all), and at $10, they’re $5 cheaper than the freakiest $15 Urban Decay Urban Lashes and half the cost of falsies from Shu Uemura (which are great, I might add).

I’m not sure about the other styles, but Leopard and Midnight Walts didn’t come with lash glue. Luckily I had a spare tube on hand.

As you might expect, some pairs are easier to apply than others. Leopard was a cinch (took about five minutes); Midnight Walts, on the other hand, wasn’t (took about 15 minutes). NOTE: I’m incompetent when it comes to applying false lashes, so your results may vary. That I was able to apply either of these without losing an eye was a minor makeup miracle.

These — especially Leopard — seem pretty fragile compared to other funky lashes I’ve worn in the past. I’m not sure how many times I’ll be able to wear each pair, but I’m guessing just two or three times. If you decide to give any of them a try, handle with care, and you should be able to use them at least a second time.

For $10 you can take your look to the next level with a pair of NYX Special Effects Lashes. Tabs, who’s lucky to have been born with a built-in flirty fringe, also likes that they’re cruelty-free.

PRICE: $10; available in 40 styles
AVAILABILITY: At drugstores and online

They aren’t the easiest falsies to wear, that’s for sure. They’re reeeeally heavy and totally obstruct my vision!

The blue lashes look… interesting 😀 I would love to try the other ones though! I have seen dozens of tutorials on how to apply falsies but I am still afraid I will end up pulling half of my natural eyelashes out…

Wow the leopard lashes look stunning!!! however, i must admit im not a huge fan of the blue ones haha. :p i was wondering if you had any tips about caring for falsies. Sometimes after taking them off, i end up with chunks of glue stuck on them which are very hard to remove! i would really like to re-use each pair at least a couple times before chucking them out so some help would definately be appreciated! 😀 thanks in advance!

      Hi Agnes,

I try to pull the little pieces of glue off immediately after I take of the lashes. You could also try taking a Q-tip soaked with some sort of oil like extra virgin olive oil or jojoba oil, run it along the edge, and then use your finger or a pair of tweezers to remove the glue bits. Depending on the lash, I usually get about three to four uses after the initial use. Let me know if you have any more questions!

not yet. i ordered 4 pairs from my favorite nyx seller on ebay. im no crazy person, so i passed theatricals and took some more wearables – 115, 119,125 and individual bottom lashes. hope this is a hit, never tried botom falsies before .

p.s i ordered nude and purple set too. thats yours fault, those swatches were amazing ;))

I dont wear false eyelashes that very often… I suck at applying them 😉
When I did my Maleficent look I used false eyelashes and I almost got the glue in my eye, and then I didnt get them where I wanted them.. I think it took about 15 minutes for me 😉

      Hi Anna,

I’m not very good at applying them either. Have you ever tried partials? I find that they’re a LOT easier to handle than the full sets.

      Hey lady!

Yes, I picked up that pleather number (Tabs approved!) at the Nordie’s sale. It makes me feel like a biker babe, LOL!

How are you today? Got any fun plans for the weekend?

We had all kinds of plans for this weekend, some very fun, some not so much! Unfortch, all four of us have fevers today, so we’re just gonna stay home and relax all weekend — not the world’s worst fate after all!

      Hi Leslie,

Thanks! The makeup here is really simple; everything I used is from MAC: Powersurge Eye Kohl on the eyes (from the MAC Permanent collection), My Highland Honey on the cheeks (A Tartan Tale) and Tad Saucy Lipglass (A Tartan Tale). Here are links to reviews/swatches of the products, just in case you need ’em:

Yeah, there’s like 40 of ’em, all $10 each. That’s a great deal for something that you can use to take a look to the next level. Makes special occasion makeup that much more accessible.

Oh, the leopard are FABULOUS! You look totally sassy. The midnight made me smile so widely that a random co-worker just passed my door and said “um, I can tell you’re not reading an e-mail from (our president)”. 🙂 Totally for wearing around the house, or maybe for taking in a show at the Bird Cage. Thanks sooooo much for sharing!

LOL! I love the subtly of the leopard and I’m also bad at applying lashes… ^-^;; I wear glasses so that makes it a touch harder (don’t need them sweeping my lenses!) but they could make my eyes look more epic!!
