NARS Unsung Heroes: Cyprus Eyeshadow

January 4th, 2012 by Karen 27 Comments

Things of which one can never have enough…

  • Good friends
  • Cozy sweaters
  • See’s Candies (well…)
  • Come-hither jeans
  • Kitty hugs
  • Black shoes
  • Love notes
  • Power-nap eyeshadows

Power-nap eyeshadows are like soft white lightbulbs for your eyes — shades that instantly brighten up tired peepers after a late night or an insomnia attack.

Some people yearn to scale Mount Everest; I yearn to amass a collection of power-nap eyeshadows so vast that it would scare the hosts of Hoarders!

My latest power-nap love, NARS Cyprus Eyeshadow ($23), is a shimmery bronze with a golden whisper. The morning after a rough night, I apply one layer over my lids and mellow out the edges with a finger.

“Ah!” Instant relief. 🙂 And quicker than a shower and mani.

I’m also fond of using Cyprus as a base for bronzy looks using colors like the dark bronze shadow from NARS Star Sailor, a combo I could happily wear every day for weeks.

And if you happen to be friends with MAC Sweet Satisfaction, you and Cyprus should really get along. I think the two colors are similar, but Cyprus seems a little more golden to me and a smidgen less peach. I like ’em both a lot and don’t think you could go wrong with either.

Did you hair that?

Yes! Tomorrow can’t come soon enough. I finally have an appointment to get my hair did!

You know how it goes. New year, fresh roots. 🙂

‘Course, I still haven’t decided what to do with the cut. Do I go with something shorter, leave Lloyd Christmas alone, or let it grow out? I’ll probably decide at the last minute, as usual.

To cut or not to cut; that is the question. Bob haircut pic on the left from Refinery 29

How do you usually decide what to do with your hair? Do you plan before you arrive at the salon, or just go with your gut?

And in NARS news…

They recently posted a few pics of their spring collection on their Facebook page. A shimmery blue eye pencil, a bronze eyeshadow duo and a bright pink blush — looks like a possible stunner (stay tuned!).

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I lived there for a bit, too It’s absolutely gorgeous. I would say that if you ever want to travel, Cyprus is a beautiful place to visit. I honestly have to say that I bought the shadow because of the name, but I have no regrets. I’m so in love with it!

Eee, <3 that curled bob! I'm months (months, eugh) overdue for a haircut, but just haven’t gotten around to it yet. It’s not even a matter of planning or deciding at the last minute, for me, it’s a matter of not doing it at all! >.<

Anyhow. Cyprus looks lovely (hurrah for finely-milled shimmer!), & I can't wait to see what you do with your hair. Heck, maybe it'll encourage me to finally drag myself into a salon 😛

Your hair must be long! How are you wearing it these days? Are you putting it up? If I leave mine to grow for too long it starts making me crazy.

It’s getting there, yeah! Started as a bob (last spring), and now it’s just sort of a… past-shoulder-length mess. Up at home, curled or styled into submission at all other times!

And definitely, definitely driving me i-n-s-a-n-e. I have no idea how I managed with long hair when I was little!

      Hi Shushu,

I hear ya. I always conveniently forget that short hair is usually more work when I see cute pics like that, le sigh!

Do it! Cut it! I cut my hair off too a few months ago-just got it cut again and am rocking a mohawk at the moment. 🙂 It’s so liberating to cut it off!
Cypress looks lovely on you!! My power nap shadow is probably Stila Kitten.I look so awake when I wear it.

Could you please post a list of your power-nap eyeshadows? I remember a couple of reviews but it’s hard to keep track. And it would also be wonderful if you could throw some drugstore options in the mix. Thanks Karen!

I cut my hair off in March – from way more than shoulder length to a mid-neck tousled bob. I have natural waves and had been relaxing or flat ironing my hair so much that it was taking way too much time. I’d have it relaxed back in Malaysia and iron it in Norway as it grew out (and I had half straight, half wavy hair). It got too much and I told a hairstylist at a new hair salon I had never been to – cut it off, please. She did a wonderful job and I’m so in love with this tousled look. The only downside is that it requires frequent trims as my hair grows very quickly. Now I get a haircut every 8 weeks without fail otherwise I look like Little Miss Mushroom Head 🙂

That blue liner kind of remind me of MAC Industrial Pearlglide some how.

I love those power nap eyeshadows too!

Go the chop. I did yesterday and am loving the curly / wavy bob (I have crazy curly hair though). I reckon you can rock it.
I am loving your NARS unsung heroes, how awesome is Cyprus. Blondie is another one (I call it the matte blondie and so often overlooked as a brow color but on the lid, it’s awesome. I digress…)

    You look so well-rested! 🙂

My long hair hasn’t been cooperating lately so I’m temped to chop it off, too. I usually think about it for months in advance until I finally reach the point where I can’t stand it anymore and say “cut it short”. It’s only hair, after all. It grows back. That said, I don’t like to look like the Little Dutch Boy until it does. 🙂 Your hair always looks cute. I vote for the bob – just because it’s a change.

Speaking of hoarders, one of the boys told me that he wants to be an American Picker when he grows up. I’m horrified by some of the piles of “trash” people have all over their property, and he aspires to be a junk dealer. HAHA!

I love the look of the NARS blue eyeliner and blush. I’m not too adventurous when it comes to haircuts. I usually just get a trim as I’ve been growing out my hair. However, if I do decide to change it up slightly, I usually plan ahead and bring a picture of what I’d like.

I don’t know why I waited so long to buy Cyprus. It’s a real beauty, and a must-have for me now. Here’s a look I did using it:

Go for the bob! Very cute.

I usually get the change bug and then decide on the day I go to the salon. I search for different looks and take a picture to my stylist. It’s usually very impulsive, but it’s just hair. It’ll grow back!
