Les Impressions de Chanel and Productivity Problems

January 19th, 2010 by Karen 52 Comments

For the life of me, I couldn’t concentrate at all this afternoon. I was hoping to get ahead on some things, but I guess my mind had other plans. I kept thinking about the movie I saw last night, It’s Complicated, starring Meryl Streep (woman has GAME!), Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin.

It would’ve been perfect — authentic, complex characters and a funny, touching story — had Alec Baldwin kept his clothes on!

There are simply too many scenes with him (still lovin’ ya, Alec!) in various states of undress, and now I have these images, hopefully temporary, of his rotund, furry tummy burned onto my retinas. 🙂

I did all sorts of fooling around this afternoon to get my mind back on track… Some involved a handsome tabby cat.

Others involved Photoshop and random pictures of pretty things on my desk…

Clarins Gentle Beauty Soap, $15

Kate Spade Beauty Shop Small Manuela cosmetics case, $95

Which leads me to Chanel: What do ya think about Chanel’s Les Impressions collection for spring? I think it looks pretty good in a collage. 🙂

But how do you feel about the colors?

Quadra Eye Shadow in Kaska Beige, $56

Ombre Essentielle Soft Touch Eyeshadow in Sillage (left) and Trace (right), each $29

Ombre D’Eau Fluid Iridescent Eyeshadow in Torrent, $32

Le Crayon Yeux Precision Eye Definer in Khaki Dore, $28

Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Imprevu, $42

Empreinte de Chanel Radiant Glow Highlighting Powder, $65

Rouge Allure Luminous Satin Lip Colour in Impertinente (79), Delicieuse (80) and Insouciante (81), each $30

Rouge Double Intensite Ultra Wear Lip Colour in Rose Agate, $34

Levres Scintillantes Glossimer in Futile (139) and Maline (141), each $27

The khakis, golds and plums kinda come out of left field (more typical of fall shades), but I think it makes them different and special. These are colors I’ll definitely wear in spring, and some of them way beyond that into summer (the khaki and gold) and fall (the plums from the Kaska Beige Quad).

Other than my inability to concentrate today and the constant rain (it’s been a witch’s brew of scary weather with hail, lightning and thunder!), today wasn’t bad at all.

How was your Tuesday? I hope it was more productive than mine, LOL!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I love the picture of your Kate Spade manuela bag! I bought the large manuela bag in blue and yellow stripes. My mom saw my bag and instantly coveted it so I bought the large for her in red and blue. And then she showed my sister-in-law the bag so I just ordered it for her in the last color left (which I think is pink and orange). Thank goodness Kate Spade is having a sale!

oo. The mix of colors for the Chanel collection are quite beautiful. All complement each other quite well. I especially love the Sillage and Trace. That’s my everyday eye right there 😛

I was pretty distracted as well this Tuesday. But moreso cuz the BF came over haha. So I guess it was ‘kind of’ productive. He brought me to the pastry shop woo woot!

I LOVE the kaska beige quad but it just isn’t in the budget right now. I generally wear plums or browns so a couple of each in beautiful Chanel texture sounds just about perfect. I tried Insouciante yesterday in my quest for the perfect pinky-nude and it wore horrible. Beautifully creamy and hydrating going on but it disappeared in about half an hour. I’m now leaning towards Laura Mercier’s Pink Champagne.

LM makes really good lipsticks. Have you tried her Stickglosses? They’re very hydrating and have decent staying power.

this is going to sound SO SO stupid. i saw pictures of the Kaska beige quad and decided i’d save up a little money to go and get it, so i go to my closest chanel counter to buy it and the quad looks different. i notice that the little shadow pans are circular, not square. it looks….. wierd. so i dont buy the quad.

I don’t care if it isn’t spring-y; sure does not feel like Spring in the Bay Area right now anyway 🙂

Wow, the quad actually looks a little plummy on your skin! It definitely seems to be worth a look this weekend. The Glossimers are a little sheer though, so I’m a little disappointed.

I just discovered the best site today—it’s TheCatorialist.com, which kinda parodies TheSatorialist, but in the best way: featuring cats strutting on the street! It’s SOO cute, you HAVE to check it out. I mean, you know, Tabs is probably on there somewhere. 🙂

Though my creditcard sighed loudly, I got me the quad and a lipstick (Incognito).
The quad looks brown and subtle on me, not much about the violet at all. I love it, ist is NOT boring as many of the bworn quads.
And yes, in Europe/Germany they are round.

Very pretty and wearable hues, instant love for me. The colours are great, and I am obsessed by the bright rosy nail-polish. Another 20 euro – but this has to wait or shall I tell my man he cannot live with a woman that cannot live without this nailcolour?! 😉
I have only three nail-polishes – or do you know a better excuse?

I had a makeover at the Chanel counter and she used the Kaska quad, the Imprevu blush, and the Maline lip gloss. I bought the Kaska quad, the Maline lip gloss, and 2 waterproof eyeliners. I took the Kaska quad back, because the colors turned more orangey on me as the day went on. Plus, I like lighter colors on me anyway. I kept the Maline and got another one when I returned the quad. I have found my holy grail lipgloss – Chanel Glossimers! I really want to try out some of the Chanel eye shadow singles though. They look so soft and pretty, and I have heard that they are really easy to blend. The makeup artist used the Insouciante lipstick on my daughter for a little mini-makeover and it was really pretty.

Cute Kate Spade bag! I love cosmetic bags and need another one like a hole in my head, so I’ll just admire from afar.

Take care and have a great day!

Love the Kaska quad, the soft touch shadow in sillage and the ultra wear lip color in Rose Agate.
My coloring is such that even though I’m fairly pale I have dark brown hair and eyes and I can pile on color and i doesn’t look like I have much on, so for me these colors are perfect for spring.

Def feelin’ the love for Torrent shadow, Khaki Dore pencil and the Rose Agate lipcolor. How’s the formula for that longwear lipgloss? Does it dry onto the lips like the old MAC stuff did? Is it worth the buck? I love the pigmentation on that shade.

      January 20th, 2010 at 8:27 am

Yes, it’s slightly drying, so I prep first with a lip balm. The lipstick feels a little wetter and silkier than the MAC longwear ones, though, and just a touch more hydrating!

It does last a really long time (I hardly have to reapply), and I don’t have to use much to get lots of good color.

      Hope this helps!

I had a similar Tuesday, although I can’t blame Alec Baldwin (*shiver*). But I was having some terrible anti-productive tendencies toward the end of the day. That’s the danger of working from home and being your own boss. There’s no one to stand over you saying, “hey! Get your work done!”
