I’m Sweet on Benefit’s New Spring 2010 Velvet Eyeshadows

January 18th, 2010 by Karen 50 Comments

Ugh, my sweet tooth is throbbing! It must be the six new Velvet Eyeshadows ($18) the Benefit babes made for makeup desert.

The limited edition shades remind me of Valentine’s day candy hearts! 🙂

Today I played with four of the six — Buns, Fancy Pansy, Mermaid and Nice Melons (ha!). Don’t you love the names?

From left to right: Buns, Fancy Pansy

From left to right: Mermaid, Nice Melons

A few notes on…

Buns: If you dig neutrals, you may fall in love with this shimmery peach (it has just a hint of brown). I tried it with a bunch of my staple MAC neutrals like Sable, Saddle, Soft Brown and Soba, and it played well with ’em all. I bet it rocks with a wide range of browns, peaches, plums and golds.

Fancy Pansy: Of these four, it’s the sheerest of the group — a shimmery medium purple that flashes from violet to blue! Really, I don’t mind how sheer it is. As a matter of fact, if you’ve been wanting to try purple or blue shadows but haven’t had the courage to tackle that much color, a light wash with Fancy Pansy might help you overcome your fears. And girls who long for more POP from their purples can also layer it above a shimmery purple like Benefit’s Creaseless Cream Shadow in Flyin’ Down To.

Mermaid: LOVE this shade! The mix of khaki green and cool gold leads to a complex, rich look for lids. Pair it with a shimmery, peachy golden cream like Benefit’s Creaseless Cream Shadow in Samba-dy Loves Me to really turn up the awesomeness.

Nice Melons: If you feel like you’re constantly fighting the good fight against tired eyes (I feel your pain, sista!), pick up a pan of this shimmery golden peach. I really think it brightens my eyes, and (SIDE NOTE) I always “Ha! Ha! Ha!” whenever I say the name out loud.

What do ya think of these colors so far? Has your fancy been struck?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

The shimmers look great on your hand. I don’t think I have ever used an eye shadow by Benefit before. Fancy Pansy looks like it could be a great color for perhaps a party. I am not sure I would wear any of them to work however (corporate environment).

Love ’em all! Too bad my hubby really got on my case about my makeup obsession (which translates to the fact that I am spending too much money! LOL!). I might be able to get 1 or 2 of them, because my excuse will be that I have no spring/summer colors to wear. Pretty, pretty, pretty. Maybe the Easter Bunny can bring me some!

Tahoe was fun, but unfortunately there wasn’t a lot of snow… until we were trying to drive back over the mountain! The kids still had a blast sledding and making Calvin-and-Hobbes-style snowmen! 😀

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick.
