Fanciful Fall: Marrakesh By Way of Bohemia with the Bobbi Brown Marrakesh Chic Collection for Fall 2011

August 30th, 2011 by Karen 38 Comments

bobbi brown marrakesh chic

Grab your passport, Boho babe, because Bobbi Brown is taking us to Marrakesh!

Available now on counters and very soon online, the new 17-piece Marrakesh Chic collection’s shades of pink, plum, taupe, beige, gray and peach suggest it’ll be a casual, comfy trip, so pack accordingly (might I suggest a flowy floral top, wide-leg flares, feather earrings, chunky heels and that turquoise ring I know you have? 🙂 ).

The limited edition release invokes exotic street markets, broken-in jeans and buttery soft leather saddlebags handed down from an adventurous great grandmother. I think it also has some of that whole “lady of the canyon” vibe that’s been a big trend in fashion for a while.

While it’s a complete launch with pieces for eyes, lips and cheeks, the focus appears to be on the eight new limited edition Rich Color Eyeshadows ($30 each) it contains.

Right away, I noticed something peculiar about the pans. They’re circular, and not the usual (for Bobbi) squares.

And that’s not the only break from Bobbi’s norm. The powder shadows themselves feel softer than usual to me, almost like creams, and the pigments and finishes look unlike anything I’ve seen from Bobbi before.

Picture the complexity of a MAC duochrome with the soft sheen of an eyeshadow from Becca.

According to the Bobbi Brown makeup artist I spoke with at the counter the other day (hi, Charmaine!), Bobbi used a completely different shadow formula this time around, one supposedly longer-wearing than usual that doesn’t crease, but it can be tricky to apply without the right tools.

These things just love sponge applicators; brushes and fingers won’t do (well), and they struggle to pick up and deposit the powders, which then appear quite sheer on the skin.

An eyeshadow sponge applicator, on the other hand, results in much more intense color and really helps these powders push through.

For a quick, easy look, try using a sponge applicator to apply one of the darker shades on your lid first, and then add a lighter color directly above that, blending out the edges with a fluffy domed eye brush.

Oh, one other thing — you might find that the Rich Color Eyeshadows, while they blend well with each other, don’t blend quite as well with other eyeshadows in the Bobbi Brown line. Your results may vary, but you might want to consider a test introduction if you already have some of the older Bobbi shadows, and you’re thinking about investing in a few from the new Rich Color line.

The entire Bobbi Brown Marrakesh Chic collection includes…

  • Rich Color Eyeshadows in Royale, Sand Dune, Desert Lily, Rich Slate, Pink Silk, Coffee Bean, Wine and Rich Kashmir ($30 each)
  • Metallic Lip Color in Violet Glaze ($23)
  • Rich Lip Color in Desert Plum ($23)>
  • Rich Lip Color in Desert Rose ($23)
  • Creamy Lip Color in Pink Blossom ($23)
  • Cream Lip Color in Pale Plum ($23)
  • Sheer Color Cheek Tint in Sheer Pink, Sheer Mauve, Sheer Coral and Sheer Blackberry ($22 each)

And then my heart broke into a million tiny pieces…

Sleep? — what’s that? I’ve been too busy shopping for heels during the Kate Spade Sample Sale and catching up on True Blood to sleep.

STOP HERE if you’re averse to spoilers, babe!

I’m still in major denial over the “real” Vampire Eric’s return! I think I actually heard my heart break (crack!) when he told Sookie that he still loved her on the couch.

The other Eric is still here…

It’s not hard to imagine where this boat is heading — straight into the Bermuda Triangle of Lurve!

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

      Hi Heidi,

Aren’t those great? I love ’em on days when I just need to get some blush on and GO!

Okay, so you’ve totally inspired me to order Tim Gunn’s book on Amazon. Maybe Tabs can get him to sign it, LOL!

I think you’ll really enjoy the book, and signing it for Tabs is the very least Mr. Gunn could do after not making Tabs his top priority lately!

Thanks for the swatches! How red-toned is wine? The little pic does not look extremely red toned (can see the brown in it) but the swatch shows up more red.

I am LOVING True Blood this season! A friend recently gifted me with the latest Sookie book autographed by Charlaine H. herself! Anyhow, becoming a REAL Alcide fan here. 🙂

      Hi Beth,

It’s pretty red on skin. I have a hard time pulling off those types of colors (makes me look like I’m crying), but the makeup artist said it’s wearable and looks pretty when lightly applied in the crease. I’ll probably have to stay away…

That is an amazing gift! What a thoughtful friend. What was the occasion? Or was it “just cause”?

Me too! I loved them together — they had such a tweet and tender relationship.

Speaking of Alcide, what the heck happened to Debbie? 🙁 She’s gonna break the poor guy’s heart.

All those cheek tints look amazing and I am not a cheek tint type of gal.

Whaaaaaat is Alan Ball doing with this love triangle? I, for one, am glad that Eric is back. Although he needed to be a bit more RAWR but maybe that will be in the next episode. I love how they ended it with all four vamps ready to kick some booty.

      Hi Marisol,

I like them — they travel well and are just super easy to use when I’m not in the mood to deal with brushes.

Sooo, I have to say, this is probably my favorite season from the entire season. Every episode has kept me on edge! The show feels like it’s gotten it’s groove back.

And I know you think he’s too much of a wimp, but I will always have a soft side for the kinder, gentler Eric. *tear*

Love this – I’ll have to check them out. And…Bobbi Brown used round pans for YEARS before switching to square, so she’s just revisiting an old format!

I wish. I just paid off the MacBook Pro I bought to replace the laptop that got stolen when someone broke into my apartment and then a car payment on my Yaris and school books. I am gonna have to wait for the next sample sale, until then, my Kate Spade glasses will have to be enough.

Woah woah woah let me get this straight……

Sookie, instead of waiting a few days to tell Eric about her feelings, shoots down a vulnerable old Eric a half an hour after his memory returns, basically ensuring that Amnesic Eric will stay locked away and things will return to how they were before, with him scaring the shiz out of everyone.

    Way to go Sook.

I’m totally in love with this collection, especially the eyeshadows. My current list included Slate, Pink Silk, and Sand Dune. I’m so glad they look awesome in your swatches. I’m also on the fence about Desert Rose . I love the Rich Lip colors, but it’s hard to get a handle on how dark this shade actually is.

And THANK YOU for the Kate spade. I’ve been dreaming of the Stevie handbag all week. I thought it was only available in outlets, but apparently I was wrong. I think I forgot to blink while I was browsing your web link.

Gosh, so many things. First of all, I think it’s awesome that you numbered the swatches. If you’ve done this before and I haven’t noticed, I apologize. I really thought it was helpful here, though. 🙂 Second, I guess I really must be in autumn mode because all the wines and deep reds are appealing to me. Not to wear, but just to admire in the swatches, I guess. Third, those shoes are sweet. Again, from an “admiring on someone else” standpoint. Last, and I know I keep saying this, but I love that Eric is back. He’s just so darn hot when he’s a b*stard. 🙂

Not a BB fan at all, but love the little TB tidbit at the end of this post 🙂

Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick.
