Have you ever gone from feeling lukewarm about something to realizing that life without it would be pretty tough? Well, that’s my story with Chanel Rose Initiale Joues Contraste Powder Blush ($43). I’d read that it ticked all of the boxes for a good blush when I first got it, but I wasn’t in love. It just seemed so…ordinary.

It turns out, that’s the secret to its versatility!

The long-running Makeup and Beauty Blog Unsung Heroes series features much-loved permanent collection products from a variety of bodacious beauty brands.

Neutral Pink Chanel Rose Initiale is just pigmented enough to show up easily, and the blendability makes sure you never have to fear going too far with it! The tiny shimmer in there looks like a satiny sheen on the cheeks, which gives it a natural finish and keeps it from looking dull.

On the left: Chanel Rose Initiale swatched heavily; on the right: blended out

While Rose Initiale might look like any other pink, it works with absolutely everything! It’s magical! When I can’t decide which blush to wear, I go for Rose Initiale. When I want to take face shots for five different lipsticks in one go, I reach for Rose Initiale. From berry to wine, from nude to red, I have yet to find one single lipstick Rose Initiale doesn’t work well with.

For a blush that works when nothing else will, check out Chanel Rose Initiale Joues Contraste when you have the chance. It might not stand out at first blush, but you’ll be coming back for more!

Thanks, Chris! I like how it works with everything! I am a little skittish about cool-toned blushes, so this will just have to do 🙂

You’re right. I’ve definitely looked at this blush without thinking twice about it…but never picked it up! But from your description, this is a magical blush! I adore all products that can be used without thinking (or even a mirror) and it turning out perfectly!

Hey girly, I didn’t think it’s too exciting at all when I got it, but I ended up using it a lot!

Sunny, how would this compare with Chanel’s Affinite?

Hey Charisma, Affinite leans cooler and Rose Initiale is quite neutral. Hope this helps!

Looking absolutely beautiful Sunny! I still need to test out my Chanel Frivole but this one was next on the list ^^.

Oh very nice. I always wanted to try channel blushes, but they are very expensive where I live. I know what to ask on my birthday. Great color for fair skin.

Hey Judith, that’s a great idea! I’m sure Rose Initiale will look great on fairer skin tones!

Sunny, I SO agree with you!! Rose Initiale has become my total go-to blush as well since it came out. I love how neutral it is and I reach for it as well whenever I am undecided! I can never overdo it (I’m pretty pale in the winter). Thanks for singing its praises! 🙂

Hey Elizabeth, I’m glad you find Rose Initiale as versatile as I do! It looks so ordinary in the pan, but it always works!

My Chanel lady that I work with raves about this blush.

If only I didn’t own too many blushes as it is…

About Makeup and Beauty Blog

Welcome to Makeup and Beauty Blog
Hi there! I’m Karen, your friendly neighborhood beauty addict, and I’m a Bay Area girl who hoards brown eyeshadow and covets coral lipstick. Every morning, I wake up and say, “I’m going to do something other than a smoky eye today.” Then…I end up doing a smoky eye anyway (most days). When I’m not putting on makeup, taking pictures of makeup or writing about makeup, which I’ve been doing daily since 2007 (!), you’ll find me hanging out with my hubby (“El Hub”), my four-year-old daughter (Connor Claire) and my torbie girl cat (Pretty Girl Rosie, a.k.a. PGR).
