A Quick Look at Urban Decay Eden Primer Potion and Razor Sharp Powder

January 27th, 2010 by Karen 42 Comments

There’s been some serious *brou-ha-ha* over Urban Decay’s new Alice in Wonderland Book of Shadows (first about the cute packaging and second about the shades having been previously released under different names), but UD didn’t stop with Alice. They also released two new face products, namely a powder and an eye primer for spring.

I’m still doing some playing testing, but here’s a really quick look… 🙂

Urban Decay tried to make their new loose powder universally flattering, but they sure didn’t make the name easy to say, ha! Razor Sharp Ultra Definition Finishing Powder ($30) is quite a mouthful (say it five times fast!), but it does feel soft, slippery and very finely milled.

What seems different about it? Well, it’s supposed to create an optical blurring effect (almost an airbrushed effect) that UD says will minimize imperfections on the skin. To that I say, “My skin’s hella imperfect, so bring it on!”

A sprinkling of Razor powder

Razor’s also supposed to be flexible enough to wear in different ways, like alone on bare skin to mattify or smooth, sprinkled on top of foundation to set, or applied beneath liquid foundations to form a sort of hybridized liquid powder.

Razor rubbed into skin

As for Eden ($18), a new version of their Primer Potion (joining the classic one and Sin), I’m hoping it prevents eyeshadow creasing as well as its predecessors do. She sports a matte finish in a light nude shade and appears to have yellow undertones.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed about these and hoping they live up to my expectations… I’m always in the mood for more makeup worship. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Okay, can I hitch a ride from SF to New York City please? I need to get to Union Square by 6 p.m. on Feb. 2. 🙂 That’s where and when my girl Beyonce’s launching her new fragrance, Beyonce Heat (a woody, fruity floral with notes of magnolia, vanilla, honeysuckle and musk). I’m kinda loving the bottle…

This version of the primer looks really good because when i get dark circles under my eyes my lids also get dark so I am hoping that this can cancel that out.

Oh, good call. Have you tried Benefit’s Lemonaid? It’s supposed to brighten up the lids. I’ve used it before but it didn’t really work for me (turned gray), but I have friends that swear by it.

Definately want your feedback on the powder. The new primer potion…I think it’ll be too yellow for my skin tone. Beyonce’s new perfume sounds nice, definately worth a sniff or two….and the bottle reminds me of “I Dream of Jeanie”, don’t it?

Great, now I’ve got the theme song stuck in my head……..Da-daat, Dat-da-da-Dah-da……

      LOL, kinda!

I’ve been wearing the powder on one cheek (LOL!) and so far so good. It’s very natural… maybe it’ll be good for the girls who just want a little something-something.

Karen, Lemonaid hasn’t worked for me either but Eden is amazing! Swear you’ll be worshipping asap.

Yeah it turned gray and it made my shadows hard to blend :(. I’m actually not a huge UDPP fan, but Eden changed my mind on it.

I’m more of a fan of Sin rather than the original UDPP, LOL! Sin totally made me look at the product differently.

Oh, btw, did you know you could use the PP’s beneath concealer in the under eye area?

I am looking forward to trying this when my shadow insurance runs out. My eyelids are a little blotchy and the blotches are kinda warm toned so when I where cooler shadow washes it just looks odd. Did you notice that this is a dollar more than the other UDPPs? I’m guessing a price increase is in our future.

No, I didn’t! Yargh! Everything seems to just be getting more and more expensive! A dollar here, a dollar there…

How does this powder compare to some of the other recent airbrush-effect poweders like MAC Prep + Prime, MUFE HD, Matterial Girl, etc.?

Hm, I’m still getting Alice’s Book of Shadows even if they’re all repromotes mainly because I don’t have all those colors. I thought Alice looked like Painkiller, but that’s okay. I love Flash. It does great things to bring out the grey in my eyes. I still haven’t figured out how to use Painkiller without it looking a little too 70s on my porcelain skin.

Zena told me to tell you to send some of the Cali sun over here. She got a bath and is not amused. She was smelling rather Frito-ish so a bath was in order.

Is the razor powder comparable to MUFE’s HD Powder? It sounds really similar and I was wondering if you can tell the difference. If so, which do you prefer? (If you’ve tried the HD powder)

    Thanks!

I’ve been wanting to try Urban Decay Potion Primer, but not this Eden shade. Karen , would you say the Sin is too warm or dark for a cool light skintone? Thanks for all your reviews.

    hey karen!
so the way i’ve always felt about UDPP is that it basically leaves a clear surface on the eye for shadow – would you say that eden is more matte, almost as if using a white base, to give color more pop or just more intended to even out discoloration on the eyelids?
    thanks!

Eden Primer? Really UD? That’s mega awesome, especially if its as geeky as I think it is. Or is it just a funky coincidence? The video game Mass Effect2 just came out, and there’s a planet called “Eden Prime”. Either way, cool!

As for all the new optically diffusing setting powders out there the one that caught my eye is Laura Mercier’s new one…the one that is tinted green to reduce redness, but supposedly looks clear. Any thoughts?

The razor sharp powder is awesome i have been using it all week and it is a really nice finisher. I am slightly olive toned and it looked good on me , my room mate is more pink to porcelain and she loved it, and then i tried it on someone that was african american and it was pretty as well. It is transparent so it goes great on everyone’s skin tone. Blends in great too!
