10 Reasons to Rock Smokey Purple Eyes (and Pics of the New Purple MAC Mineralize Eye Shadow in Leap From the MAC Lightness of Being Collection)

December 19th, 2014 by Karen 24 Comments

Wearing makeup from the new MAC Lightness of Being collection

10 reasons to rock smokey purple eyes…

  1. Because you’re on day three of “third day hair,” and your roots feel hella janky, and you really need to feel glamorous despite this.
  2. Any excuse to bust out MAC Sketch. Any. Excuse.
  3. Because purple smokey eyes are a temporary distraction from the chaos that is happening around your eyebrows. Note to self: schedule time for some TLC with those fussy, fuzzy little caterpillars.
  4. Purple is the color of royalty, and what better way to stake your claim as Queen of the Crazy Cat Ladies?
  5. Because, hello! — rainy days and Prince songs. *Cues Purple Rain*
  6. Because it’s long past time to pay homage to one of the greatest MAC trifectas of purple power — Bamboo, Saddle and Shroom.
  7. Because it’s been a minute since you’ve done black cat liner, which is a perishable skill. Use it or lose it, yo!
  8. Because scientific studies prove that the best eye makeup to wear while gorging on Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Stars is smokey purple eyes… OK, not really, but in my mind this is true.
  9. Because heaven forbid you go to HomeGoods for the fourth time this week without at least a little makeup on.
  10. Because you never know when the urge to go dancing will hit! Preparedness is key! 🙂

Wow, you really made Leap work! I am wearing it today and it’s very sheer, definitely not smokey.

With the purchases of Sketch and Saddle (opulent color combo!) I now have a bigger storage box for the MAC eye shadows! It’s labeled STYLISH

    which is Reason #11.

I swatched Leap at the counter recently and it left something to be desired… Did you have any troubles with pigmentation? I found it to be a little more sheer than I’d like…

      Hi Estefania,

Eh, it was a little sheer but sometimes I don’t mind that to be honest, because I like the ability to wear it as a wash or build it up. For this look I wet a 239 with Fix+ to apply Leap, which is my typical drill for the MSF Eye Shadows!

So pretty, love this on you! I’ve been doing a simple smokey purple a lot lately using the purple-y Laura Mercier caviar stick/cream shadow blended out with Too Faced Milk Chocolate bronzer in the crease. Lasts all day! 🙂

      Hi Trude,

Your look sounds super pretty. Aren’t those Caviar sticks lovely? I have a few and use them all the time as bases.
