Yearning for a Retro Look in a Rush? The Tremendously Tinted Estée Lauder Mad Men Collection See Thru Blush in Light Show Sweeps Cheeks with One-Coat Color

March 11th, 2013 by Karen 22 Comments

Estee Lauder Mad Men Collection See Thru Blush in Light Show
That’s the new Estée Lauder Mad Men Collection See Thru Blush in Light Show ($50) on my cheeks, one of three pieces in the Mad Men Collection, available now at counters and online

One look at the words, “See Thru,” on the box, and I assumed I’d need a heavy hand and lots o’layering to get the new budget-breaking $50 Estée Lauder Mad Men Collection See Thru Blush in Light Show to show up on my NC42 skin, but like Don Draper, this blush is full of surprises.

And it’s just in time! — along with the other two pieces in the limited edition Mad Men Collection — for the show’s sixth season, which premiers on AMC April 7.

Hmm… Do you recall last year’s two-piece Mad Men Collection? I wonder if these releases will be an annual thing like Bronze Goddess. If so, that has to please the partners at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce… 🙂

This year/season, Estée Lauder summoned a late ’60s makeup look with a pigmented, pink powder blush with laid-back shimmer that lays down loads of color with a single swipe.

I almost wish it didn’t last as long and contained less pigment, because I actually want another reason to carry this cute compact around, LOL! It’s hefty (must weigh half a pound), but I could stare at that pattern on the top of it for days… It’s based on a ’60s print Estée Lauder discovered in their archives.

Ouch about the price, but it comes with a luxurious experience — the pretty box, pouch, the push-button clasp, and the blush itself, which leaves cheeks flushed without looking heavy or unnatural. If you’re a girl/guy with a soft spot for high-end products, one-swipe blushes and AMC’s hit show, check out Light Show.

PRICE: $50 for a 0.26-ounce pan
AVAILABILITY: Available now at Estée Lauder counters and online

Zhooom! And there goes Monday…

So, Daylight Savings. I sure like the extra hour of sunlight at the end of the day. For the first time in months, it was actually light outside when El Hub got home from work, and when it’s daylight later like this I feel a little more motivated to work out or go for walks.

It certainly makes it easier to get up off the couch.

Hope you’re having a nice night. I just inhaled a big salad and a slice of veggie pizza, and now I’m watching Pretty in Pink on Netflix for the umpteenth time.

Poor Duckie…

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I’m drooling all over the pretty compact, the print is just stunning! I love the colour combo and the overall look of this compact just screams ‘buy me’ to me, haha. The powdery pink is actually really pretty too, I actually don’t have anything like this! And it shows up really nicely on you Karen! Oh how I wished they would release this collection here!

      Hi Tracy,

Are you asking me to twist your arm? LOL! 🙂 I think you could rock this color…maybe with a bright pink or red lip?

Not really my kind of shade, but it looks amazing on you!
I can’t wait to see what’s next in the show; very inspiring for makeup and style in general. Their dresses are so pretty.

I’m looking forward to the new season, too. It’s going to be interesting to see where the characters go, especially Don.

      Have a great week. 🙂

Wowza. I swatched this blush at my local Nordstrom but didn’t find myself too impressed with either the color or the pigmentation but now that I see it on you I’m pretty sure I NEED this (like I need another hole in my head but, hey, I cannot resist pretty blushes + amazing packaging). That $50 price point hurts though.

You’ve been looking so flawless in all of your recent posts Karen. Is this the same face/foundation routine you posted the breakdown for (Aerin Beauty Casis Gloss Makeup Look)? I’ve been on the hunt for a new foundation/concealer for what feels like the last six months but have yet to find anything worth sticking with.

      Hi Dhariane,

Ya know, when I first swatched it, I had no idea it would look so beautiful on the skin. It’s one of those products that you really need to try on to get the full experience.

And yup, for this look, I used the same face/foundation routine with a few minor tweaks: Hourglass Mirage Bronzer to contour and NARS Sheer Glow Foundation in the center of my face (underneath the eyes, between the eyebrows and on my nose).

      Hi Jennifer,

Aww, thanks! It’s really easy. Just some neutrals shadows on my eyes (Smashbox Softbox II Photo Op Palette), cat eyeliner (Dior Diorshow Art Pen), See-Thru blush on my cheeks and nude lips (NARS Floralies Satin Lip Pencil).
