Urban Decay Spring 2011: I Tip My Hat to the New 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Pencils

December 3rd, 2010 by Karen 44 Comments

The new Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Pencils ($20) are the jam, but if you’re gonna do any blending you’ve gotta work hella fast.

“Run, Forest, run!”

New for spring 2011, these 12 creamy shadows in a stick are spin-offs of Urban Decay’s famed 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencils. They’re just as smudge- and crease-proof as the originals with the same smoooove texture.

The Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Shadow Pencils…

  • Barracuda: a shimmery black with silver glitter
  • Clash: a shimmery teal with silver glitter
  • Clinic: a shimmery peacock feather green with glitter
  • Delinquent a shimmery deep purple with violet glitter
  • Lit: a shimmery warm bronze
  • Mercury: a shimmery gunmetal gray
  • Midnight Cowboy: a shimmery beige with golden glitter
  • Morphine: an iridescent lilac
  • Narc: a shimmery moss green
  • Rehab: a shimmery brownish taupe
  • Sin: a shimmery champagne
  • Wasteland: a shimmery dark brown

For all my ladies in the sisterhood of the perpetually 15 minutes late, the 24/7 Shadow Pencils should do you right, especially if you love wearing lid looks with a single shadow. One swipe draws solid, shimmery color — it’s like instant eyeshadow gratification in a stick.

As for beauties who love intricate blending, well, heed the sage advice of ’80s pop star Paula Abdul and rush, rush, because these shadows dry fast — we’re talkin’ less than a minute.

Could Keanu Reeves be any hotter in this video? For real though!

Yeah, eye looks with lots of blending and gradients are still totally doable with these, but you just have to work fast to smooth out the edges where the colors transition into one another.

More stuff to love about the 24/7 Shadow Pencils…

  • Cruelty-free formula: Like all of Urban Decay’s makeup, the 24/7 Shadow Pencils are vegan and weren’t tested on animals, which earns two big paws up from Tabs.
  • Travel-friendly for girls on the go: Looking to lighten your load? Throw one of these bad boys into your makeup bag, and you can skip your eye primer and eye brushes.
  • Multitasking monsters: These should work great as bases for powder shadows, too!

Urban Decay really did their fans right with the Shadow Pencils, and I hope the rest of the spring line is just as fantastic. Kudos, UD!

PRICE: $20
AVAILABILITY: At Sephora, Ulta, select Macy’s stores and online soon

I like Mercury, Wasteland and Rehab! Too bad they’re a little on the pricey side.. I’m hoping that Urban Decay will have a FF sale soon! 😛 If I remember correctly, they had one last November. I guess business is so good this year that they decided to skip it 🙁

Btw Karen, can I request a review and swatches of the Jemma Kidd Catwalk Eye Makeup Kit you featured as your Daily Photo a week ago? I can’t seem to find anything on it online!

Clinic looks just like no. 10 from Kiko makeup, which you reviewed earlier (and I bought on my recent trip to Milan). Do you have any tips on how to apply them? I am having a hard time and I remember you saying you loved it. Thanks.

I love that song! It’s probably the only Paula Abdul song I like. And I’d like to try those pencils out, but I don’t think they’d be much difference from the original 24/7 Eye Pencils. Your eye makeup looks very pretty though! <3

I’m intrigued! I love the 24/7 liner pencils. so this may be a dumb question, but are these shadow pencils fatter/chubbier than the liner pencils?

      Hi Amanda,

Yup, they’re chubbier and shorter. The texture’s a bit more powdery, too.

I’m a huge fan of the UD eyeliner pencils and the powder shadow formulations. However, HOWEVER… many of their fantastic colors are just two glittery for the over-35 set. The first shadows I bought, I had to return because they looked jarring on me, and did nothing flattering for the texture of my lids, which are really in pretty good shape. (And, yes, I used Primer Potion.) Then I rooted around and discovered that, amongst the glittery shades they offer, UD has some amazing matte shadows. “Naked” might be the best taupe ever. It would be fantastic if UD would do a line of matte or mostly-matte shadow sticks, these are hard to find in any line. While UD is famous for glitter, their mattes are the unsung heros.

for anyone that’s wondering, i found a pretty good dupe for morphine today. i went to sephora looking for the shadow pencils but they don’t have them yet in my city. so instead i got sephora jumbo eye pencil in purple. it looks exactly the same to me for only $6 🙂

I like the EOTD you did with the 3 shadow pencils. 🙂 Very nice combination of shades.

I like the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencils so much but they crease after 1 to 2 hours but these ones remind me of MAC Pearlglides! Definitely will be looking out for them!

    I love all the shades!
