Love Sheer Lipgloss? You’ll Crazy Heart This New Set from NARS

Published in: Makeup, Product Reviews

I learned something oddly thrilling today. The new NARS Crazy Heart Set ($50) glosses are sheer enough to apply while walking down the street without a mirror (try it sometime), yet pigmented enough to make an impact on passers by.

This is brilliant news! Now I can devote more precious time and energy to important things, like unraveling the mystery behind Zac Efron’s allure.

The set comes with five sheer shades from the NARS permanent lipgloss line — Easy Lover (a hot pink), Babe (a reddish orange), Orgasm (a shimmery golden pink), Turkish Delight (a creamy light pink) and Misbehave (a cherry red with golden shimmer) — all of them highly wearable, with the exception of Turkish Delight, which looks kinda milky before it mellows into an attractive pale pink.

MAC Nymphette-s might like Orgasm, Nymphette’s sheerer cousin, and ladies who’ve always wanted to wear red lips but were too afraid to try should take a look at Babe.

All of them have the same silky smooth medium weight texture in tubes that are considerably smaller than usual for NARS lipglosses (0.14 oz. vs. 0.28), but that’s only a fraction smaller than full-size MAC Lipglasses (0.17 oz.).

As far as flavor and scent, these have both, which is strange considering their full-size counterparts have neither, and it’s my least favorite thing about them. These smell and taste faintly of plastic. Yep, plastic. :( But I think it’s almost imperceptible.

If you like these shades and don’t already have ‘em, the Crazy Heart Set is a great opportunity to grow your stash.

The orgasm shade is very pretty

  2. Heidi says:

This might make the perfect companion to the Nars in a Box (which I am LOVING) that I just got during Sephora’s Friend’s & Family sale. Tempting!

    • Karen says:

      Hi Heidi,

That set is beautiful! And that fact that you got it on sale is even more awesome. :) How are you liking the products? Which one’s your fave?

      • Heidi says:

I love every single thing in the set! The shadows are all flattering and great pigmentation, and the Orgasm Multiple? Come on, for this lover of all things coral, peachy-pink, etc….? It’s beyond amazing!

  3. Ceriene says:

Babe looks absolutely gorgeous on you! I don’t love all of these enough to indulge in the set, but you’ve definitely got my eye on Nars’ lip glosses now. <3

  4. Natalie Wilkinson says:

I have turkish delight i put it on a bit thick and after it fades a bit it looks spectacular though dries my lips out like nobody’s business

  5. snoopysteph says:

Easy Lover is one of my all time favorite lip glosses and it’s so crazy to see how much different it looks on you than me! Love me some NARS lip gloss! :)

  6. Advah says:

Easy Lover and Misbehave are veeery pretty! (PS: love your hat!)
I’ve got to stop buying lipglosses, I never get to the end of any!

    • Karen says:

      Hi Advah,

Thanks! I picked that up at H&M recently. It keeps my head warm and hides my bangs when I’m lazy, haha!

Putting yourself on lipgloss lockdown is no fun! It’s useless to resist. :)

I am a huge fan of sheer glosses, so I will have to put this on my Christmas wish list! :-)

Monday did fly by fast. In fact, the whole month of October seemed to fly by

  9. Kim says:

They’re very pretty, except that I am a bit creeped out by Turkish Delight’s milkiness. I currently have more lip glosses than I can shake a stick at, but I’m sure I’ll give Orgasm a try in the future since I really like the blush. Did you also have Phil Collins singing Easy Lover in your head all day? It’s going to be a long afternoon! :)

    • Karen says:

      Hi Kim,

I was at first too, but it does get really pretty after it hits a certain point.

RE: the Orgasm gloss. Are you more of a sheer or pigmented gloss girl? If you like more color/glitter, Nymphette might be the way to go.

And funny you should mention that Phil Collins song… it’s actually my karaoke tune, haha!

      • Kim says:

I think I might like Nymphette better because I’m a sucker for glitter! :)

Is it really your karaoke song? That is too funny! I didn’t have it in my head for long because the next post I read was for Trouble Maker so I’ve been humming Weezer instead. :)

        • Karen says:

Both are pretty, but Nymphette definitely packs more shimmer. :)

And yeah… it’s tacky as all hell but Easy Lover is my karaoke jam. Everybody knows the chorus (so I can always find somebody to duet with me), and it always gets people dancing!

Whenever I think of Weezer I immediately start humming Buddy Holly. Remember when that was on the radio every five minutes?

          • Kim says:

I think that’s awesome! And I totally agree that it’s nicer to group/duet karaoke (especially if you have a mediocre singing voice like me!).

Oh, gosh, yes. That and the Sweater song – they can definitely grate after a while. I’m more of an El Scorcho fan, myself. :) Come to think of it, I do have quite a bit of Weezer on my iPod!

          • Karen says:

Oh gawd that Sweater song. I remember getting to the point where I’d hear the opening notes and immediately change the channel. I like Weezer, but I like them in the same way I like hot spices in my food — just a little, and in small doses, please.

  10. Nina says:

the NARS sets are always a great buy — im soooo loving this set !!!

  11. lexi says:

THANKS FOR THE GIANTS SHOUT OUT FOR YOUR GIANTS READERS!!! That was one amazing ass game!

Okay back to the subject at hand. I have Easy Lover and many other NARS glosses and that’s my same complaint – the plastic smell. Also, did they change the consistency? I don’t remember my older lip glosses being this thick? I feel like they somehow got thicker (the newer glosses like Easy Lover). Is it because there’s more pigment? My Supervixen gloss is older and also a thinner consistency that I love and doesn’t bother my lips. Also Turkish Delight is a pass for me – to milky white for my liking. I may buy this and just share with my sisters.

    • Karen says:

      Hi Lexi,

It’s a great day to be from the bay today! WOOOOOO! Did you neighborhood go crazy?

Anyway, these new ones don’t feel all that much different from the old ones to me. It’s possible they changed the formulation, because they do indeed smell different.

  12. knownever says:

I love how NARS glosses are always so eye poppingly bright and edgy in the tube while still being totally wearable and understated on. I think where NARS has really gotten it right is not with colors or formula necessarily but with marrying packaging design and branding. That black rubber packaging and NARS logo is instantly recognizable and gives all the products a unified-ly edgy feel no matter the color of the actual product.

    • Karen says:

      Hi Knownever,

The packaging and its consistency is one of the reasons why I like the line too.

Plus, I’m pretty sure they use Helvetica Neue Ultra Light font… love that font!

  13. regina says:

All of them are so pretty! And I love your different hair looks in the pics…you’re just lovely!

  14. kali says:

LOL.. I think NARS glosses smell like crayons! But I love them so I just ignore it.

    • Karen says:

      Hi Kali,

I’ve never really had any issue with their scent; the plastic-y ones from this batch are totally new to me! Thankfully it goes away quickly.

What are your go-to NARS glosses? I’m a Sweet Revenge and Supervixen kinda girl, myself.

      • steph b says:

I have Scandal and it smells plastic-y too. S’Ok, it more than makes up for it with great color and wear. The scent dissipates pretty quickly.

        • Karen says:

Didja get it recently? I wonder why all my older glosses don’t bug me as much…

          • steph b says:

Yep – got it with my Sephora FF order. Love the staying power. I’m going to try layering it over Courting Lilac since that is pulling totally red/brown on me and not lilac at all to see if I like it better with some glossiness. If not, it is going back and I’ll probably pick up NARS Cruising instead — love the sheer pinky, nude.

          • Karen says:

It’s interesting to see how different shades turn on different skin tones. Have you tried blanking out your lips first with a concealer or a foundation? That might help bring the purple tones out of Courting Lilac.

          • steph b says:

I know! My mom and I have completely different coloring. One of our favorite games is to try on the other’s lipstick. A mid-tone color on her looks goth on me. A mid-tone color on me looks like concealor on her. Will give a shot at blanking out my lips.

  15. Marie says:

Love these glosses! I’m very tempted to buy them, or .. leave hints that I’d like that for Christmas very much. :p
