Chanel Les Contrastes de Chanel Fall 2010: The Joues Contrastes Will Leave You Blushing for More

To complement the dark, smokey eyes and soft lips of fall’s Les Contrastes de Chanel makeup collection, Chanel crafted three of the most beautiful Joues Contraste Powder Blushes ($42) I’ve seen from the line in a really long time. I mean, just look at ‘em in their pans!

Rose Temptation (a warm and shimmery rosy brown), Plum Attraction (a shimmery deep plum) and Pink Explosion (a shimmery cool pink) wow me in ways that last year’s Fresque didn’t.

All three of the new limited edition shades pack off-the-charts pigmentation yet still look pretty natural at the same time. The recipe Chanel used of subtle, shimmery powders and buttery, blendable colors just works, and like previously released blushes in the Joues Contraste line, all of them have the subtle signature JC rose scent.

I think Chanel’s having a major makeup moment with Les Contrastes de Chanel, and for me these three new blushes solidify the collection’s position as a front runner for fall 2010.

What do you think of these shades and Les Contrastes de Chanel so far?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. Onward to Friday (YES!), and it couldn’t come soon enough. How was your Thursday? Anything new to report? Question: are you familiar with Pacifica’s Hawaiian Ruby Guava Body Butter? Can you tell me anything about it?

      Hi Joey,

It’s a toss up between Rose Temptation and Pink Explosion.

How have you been? Things good on your end?

      • Joey Chong says:

Both are pretty in their own little way. I must check them out too when they are available in stores!! And did you mention they are limited edition shades? That means I have to do it double-fast!!

Flu-ing and cough-ing BUT I had an awesome holiday with lots of makeup shopping =) Pretty much kept me “alive”.

        Have a wonderful weekend ahead!!

Ugh, I’ve got a cold too! I hope you feel better soon.

What makeup did you pick up? C’mon, share with the class, LOL!

        • Joey Chong says:

Hope you are feeling better. Everyone is getting poorly due to the unpredictable weather in Singapore lately.

I got Giorgio Armani foundation to try and NARS Blush in Gilda plus some others which are not available here!! Spent almost an hour at each counter playing with all the testers. Loves =)

  4. Glosslizard says:

Ok, I’m a smitten kitten! Do you think Plum Attraction would be too dark for my pale self or would it sheer out?

Cheers from Ashland, I just got out of a play (Twelfth Night) and am now chilling at a local pub! :)

    • Karen says:

      Hi Glosslizard,

You could totally work it w/a fan brush. Maybe also keep a kabuki around to buff out the edges, too!

How’s the weather up in Ashland?

      • Glosslizard says:

Weather here is warm (highs in the 80′s) which is sure a nice change! Yesterday I actually got to wear a tank top and not be cold! :D

      • Karen says:

WOW! Lucky you! It’s overcast and cold here today. Soak up some sun for me..

What other plays have you seen? Anything noteworthy?

  5. Citrine says:

    Friday yay! :)

Those blushes are so pretty … I want them all!!! :)

    • Karen says:

      Hi Nina,

A super big yay for Friday!

Aren’t these colors beautiful? Good thing you’ve been working on your blush collection as of late. ;)

      • Nina says:

Yes’m!!! This will be a wonderful addition to my little blush family! :D

Friday yay — had a surprise lunch w/ the bestie: she felt a bit out of sorts and so did I so we ended up having some comfort food together.

Its raining cats and dogs here right now … im wishing to get sent home early! :)

  8. Michelle says:

I want Pink Explosion! They all look beautiful on you! I thought I saw somewhere that Orchid Rose was going to be a part of this blush collection — have you ever seen it? (maybe it is part of the perm line). Thanks so much for all of these Chanel swatches lately — I am in makeup heaven!!

  9. Lee says:

    Hey Karen and beauties :)

These blushes look great, i think they suit ur darker skin tone rather than the nw20 tone.
I have never tried chanel blush but think i shall now hehe

Oh and about the eye shadow quads, i have a chanel one from a few yrs ago its same shape 4 tones with a nice silver, navy blue with a good shimmer/glitter through it, a light pink, and a light blue…ill have 2 check out the name of the quad and see if uve seen it b4 :)

  10. Sharon says:

Rose Temptation looks the best on you, I think! :) On my NW15 skin Pink Explosion would be the most suitable out of the three you’ve showed. I’m looking for a new blush, am running out of my fave Lise Watier blush (for the second time…) but Chanel is a little rich for my blood right now. I’ve been resorting to using my hot pink MUFE shadow as a blush, and it’s great with a light touch.

  11. Lee says:

By the way how does Tabs always know 2 look right at the camera? lol thats so cute

  12. Christa says:

    Hi Karen!

I’ve just discovered your blog and love it. I was however bummed that our skin tones are so different (I’m NW10) but I’m so incredibly delighted you took the trouble to also swatch these on NW20 skin!! I can’t tell you how helpful that is to me. I can sometimes get tempted into things that aren’t for me since colours differ on people so much so it is so nice to know that I can benefit from seeing things both ways on your site. Is this something you normally do? Thanks!!!!

  13. Lowelli says:

really like rose temptation..but probably wouldn’t dish out the $$ for it :(

    • Karen says:

      Hi Lowelli,

It’s a nice blush, but you could probably find a few similar shades from other lines. If you do end up getting it you just might get hooked on Chanel, though. ;)

Happy Friday! Got any exciting weekend plans?

  14. Van says:

Damn Karen, you’re rocking that Chanel look really well!!! The entire fall line looks amazing on you, I must say the Plum Attraction look is my fave, what lip gloss are you wearing? Hope you have an excellent weekend :)

    • Karen says:

      Hi Van,

That’s Chintz lipstick with Teaser gloss! Both are from the Chanel collection.

Hope you have an excellent weekend too! What plans do you have?

  15. Kim says:

I love Pink Explosion on you… and the Zoolander Blue Steel look on Tabs’ face. Oh, sorry, it must be Le Tigre! :)

  16. Trinidad says:

Chanel does it for me every time! Love!

  17. Toni says:

Karen, first of all, I love your necklace and your hairstyle – so pretty! Did you pull your hair back in a ponytail, or is it in a bun? I like your sideswept bangs!

If I get divorced because of this collection, I am blaming you for it! LOL! After seeing the blushes on the NW20 skin, I think pink explosion is the one I would get. I can’t wait to get the Enigma quad and the Glossimers from the collection. My Nordstrom didn’t have it yet, but they were doing preorders for all of the Nordstrom anniversary collection.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend! We’re doing movie night, possibly a picnic tomorrow and just having fun hanging out with the kids.

    • Karen says:

      Hi Toni!

Thanks, hon! For this hairstyle I just let my bangs air dry and then I put in a little bit of Bumble & Bumble Brilliantine to add smoothness and shine. The rest of the hair is in a low bun.

Well, if there’s any Chanel collection worthy of driving one to divorce, this would be the one. I haven’t seen a Chanel fall collection this grand in a while! It’s wearable, classy, yet it still has a twist — all the things I love most from the brand. Hopefully you’ll be able to get your paws on the new shades sooner, than later.

Movie night sounds like fun! Will you guys be renting or heading out to the theater?

      • Toni says:

Definitely renting – my 14 y.o. daughter got sick this morning, so I don’t think movie popcorn is what she needs tonight! This might also cancel the picnic I wanted to do tomorrow as well!

I hope you, your hubby, and Tabs have some great stuff planned this weekend!

        • Karen says:

Poor thing! I hope she feels better soon. I think something’s going around… I have a killer head cold right now too!

This weekend I plan on getting a whole lotta sleep, LOL! :)

  18. Amanda says:

karen-I have and love the ruby guava body butter! I think it is the best smelling scent of the line. (I also have the blood orange and the lemon blossom). mmmm. try it!

    • Karen says:

I just picked up the shower gel and body butter! I can’t wait to start using ‘em… they’re so summery.

How are you liking the blood orange?

  19. Katie says:

I like that Tabs expression in the photo of you too haha…he doesn’t look too impressed!

  27. Christa says:

    Hi Karen,

Someone said when they saw Pink Explosion there were random chunks of glitter in it? Is this true? Do the JCs have glitter in them. I don’t mind a sheen to my blushes but I can’t stand glitter. Thanks!

  28. Mimi says:

Pink Explosion is just calling for me! OMG, I must call the local store and have them hold one for me! Though I must say Plum Attraction and Rose Temptation look so work-appropriate! I am having a hard time choosing which one to get. (I am somewhat of a new Chanel fan, my first experience was the Rouge Coco lipsticks in Mademoiselle and Rose Comete! These have hooked me to Chanel ever since!)

By the way, I ran into your blog after surfing the Chanel website and found out the new Fall line was out. I went looking around to see if there were any reviews, and here I am. Thanks for reviewing the products!

  29. Hi Karen,

Just went to check out Pink Explosion and found it to be very similar to NARS Angelika, are the glitter/sparkles wearable?

    Thanks!

  30. Vesna says:

Pink Explosion looks surprisingly great on your skin! I thought it would look more pink but it’s so interested how it looks on you :)

Very nice colors and I love Chanel blushes! Have to get myself another Chanel blush! So far I have only one. :D
