Benefit Spring 2009 Full Finish Lipsticks, Come to Mama!
Tue, 02/17/2009 by Karen | Posted in: Makeup, Product Reviews

Benefit’s new spring 2009 Full Finish Lipsticks ($18 each) make me want to bust out the pom poms and cheer for Team Lipstick!

Tabs cheers for Team Lipstick, too…
All three shades dress up this spring in full coverage color — no sheerness here, babes!

Passionista, a shimmery plum with gold micro-glitter adds a punch of color to the lips. I think she’ll look stylin’ paired with violet or gold eyeshadows. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

Thrillin’ Brazillian, a shimmery golden peach, could look pretty fab on brown skin. It reminds of MAC High Tea lipstick (a light shimmery peach) but with more intense peach. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

Lady’s Choice, a dusty rose pink, works wonders with nude lips. It leans toward the warm end of the spectrum on me. If you’re partial to warmer pinks, you might give Lady’s Choice a try. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: B
Like Benefit’s other Full Coverage lipsticks, these new shades feel thick without seeming heavy. They’re unflavored but have a slight coconut scent that’s noticeable in the tube but almost undetectable applied.
I dunno why, but I’m going totally ga-ga for spring lipsticks. Perhaps the sexy hotness of Chanel’s Rouge Hydrabase lipsticks set the stage. Or maybe the amazing texture of the MAC Cremesheens pushed me over the proverbial lipstick edge.
Whatever set off my latest obsession, I’m going along with it, LOL! I haven’t been this excited about lipsticks in a long time.
Oh my gee, I watch too much TV

Ladies, did you catch last night’s ep of The City?
There’s a scene where the girls are chit chatting at their work holiday party. I had to watch it over and over because it looked like Whitney (love ya, girl!) was finally laying an overdue smackdown on Olivia.
So far this season, Olivia’s been saying lots of b*tchy, snide things to Whit, and Whitney usually lets it go because that’s how she is.
I was surprised — in a good way — that Whitney finally stood up for herself. Somebody needed to nip Olivia’s constant boasting in the bud, yo!
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen

Thanks for the review!! I was anxiously awaiting it
I think I’m definitely going to check out Passionista and Lady’s Choice. I’m actually excited about the coconut scent…I love coconut!
2. Karen said, on February 17th, 2009:
Hi Shefali,
Yay! You’re welcome. I heart Benefit, too, so I am very psyched about the spring stuff.
The coconut scent is super-faint, but it’s there. It kind of makes me want to eat it, LOL!
3. Jae said, on February 17th, 2009:
Thank you so much for this review! ^^
I think I will have to pick up Lady’s Choice, as I love warm pink lipsticks.
4. Michelle said, on February 17th, 2009:
I’ve never bought a Benefit lipstick, I may just have to check these out. I think i’d like Passionista and Lady’s Choice. BTW Karen, I went to the MAC counter today and purchased the Tahitian Sand Beauty powder. I can’t wait to use it tomorrow

EEEKK.
Now I want some bad.
And pooh, I just busted my last 40 on horse shampoo :/

Hi Karen, until just recently I was always a lipgloss girl, but I hear ya about loving all the new lipsticks. Currently I’m a Clinique fan but you’re going to make me step out of my box and try the other brands – thank you for that. Keep up the good work!
7. Karen said, on February 17th, 2009:
Hi Jae,
You’re welcome!
I hope you like Lady’s Choice. Do you wear smokey eyes often? I think it would look really pretty with brown, gray or even blue smokey eyes.
8. Karen said, on February 17th, 2009:
Hi Michelle,
These are pretty new to me, too. I like ‘em! The cases feel sturdy, too, which is nice (you know me… gotta have my product packaging!).
So whaddaya think of Tahitian Sand?
Does it apply very pigmented on you?
9. Tatiana said, on February 17th, 2009:
I looove Benefit lipsticks! They don’t dry my lips out. Can’t decide between Passionista and Thrillin Brazillian (makes me think of getting waxed)…
10. Karen said, on February 17th, 2009:
Hi Xtina,
Girl, I didn’t know you had a horse!
We have a place in my neighborhood called Horse Hill where a bunch of ponies reside. I like to go there every once in a while to check out the horses.
When I was there one day one of the owners game me a list of the horse’s names, but I end up making up names for them on my own.
I am still working on getting El Hub to buy me a pony, but so far, NO LUCK!

Hi Katrina,
Thanks! I’m a Clinique lipstick fan, too. What’s your favorite shade?
(BTW, Raspberry Glace was my very first lipstick when I was 14 — totally my gateway drug.)
Have you ever tried Clinique Black Honey? It looks soooo scary in the tube, but actually applies as this deep, semi-glossy berry.
12. Karen said, on February 17th, 2009:
Hi Tatiana,
Yah, they feel super moisturizing!
LOL — Thrillin’ Brazilian makes me think uh, hot soccer players!
13. ParisB said, on February 17th, 2009:

I didn’t know they shipped internationally… no wonder they have such a huge fan following all over the world!

Thanks for the swatches. I have been looking for swatches of the Benefit lippies. Those are beautiful colors and look quite lovely on you
Thanks again for the review.
16. Kailey said, on February 17th, 2009:
Oooooo, these look awesome! I need to get my butt down to Sephora/Benefit and get Thrillin’ Brazillian. And those new creasless cream eyeshadows. Benefit always has the cutest packaging too! There Justine Case and Talk To The Tan packaging is adorable!
17. Karen said, on February 17th, 2009:
Hi Reesa,
You’re welcome!
I hope you give ‘em a try, as they are beautiful lipsticks with a nice texture and finish.
Have a good night!
18. Karen said, on February 17th, 2009:
Hi Kailey,
Yah, the packaging is awesome, I agree.
I haven’t tried Talk to the Tan… do you like it?

Woot. Those lipsticks are hot. Lady’s choice is my 1st fav then Passionista. How do they compare on wear and moisturization?
21. Glosslizard said, on February 17th, 2009:
I’m definitely going to have to check these out! I think I need Passionista!
22. Karen said, on February 17th, 2009:
Hi Indian Girl,
NEVEN! He’s so weird. Why doesn’t he get a job already? He seems to be dead weight …
23. Karen said, on February 17th, 2009:
Hi Stephie,
They wear pretty well! I put some on this morning and still had it on come lunch (four hours later). They feel super moisturizing on the lips, too. Mine aren’t dry at all, which happens sometimes with full coverage lippies.
24. Karen said, on February 17th, 2009:
Hi Glosslizard,
I think you do, too! I’m thinking Passionista would look purty with a deep plum liner underneath, too. Kinda gothy and hot!
25. Kate said, on February 17th, 2009:
Oh, Lady’s Choice looks fabulous. I’ve been looking for a dusty rose pink that was kinda matte like that since my last one disappeared in tenth grade. If only it were a tad cooler in color. I fear it would might be too warm with my skin tone.
It has a coconut smell? How faint is faint? I really dislike the smell of coconut. It’s right up there with citrus smells–particularly oranges–which are number one. The irony is that my Aussie shampoo smells distinctly like oranges. I have to hold my breath whilst I shampoo. I haven’t found a replacement for it that works and I like without the orangey smell.
The Thrillin’ Brazilian is pretty too. Not feeling the Passionista all that much though. I’m probably going to be in the minority on that one.
26. alexx said, on February 17th, 2009:
Hi Karen! Thanks for the review!
Here’s a brazilian girl thrilled to see such a lovely shimmery peach named after us… even though I’m not a typical bronzed brazilian girl!
Need to get one!
27. Heidi said, on February 17th, 2009:
Oh man. Those lipsticks look really pretty and creamy. No matter how much I adore lippies, I can’t bring myself to actually WEAR them everyday because they seem so…old-fashioned. Haha! Or maybe I’m just really low maintenance and like my carmex and other lip balms too much.
p.s.
benefit rocks!! I love the Dallas powder and Benetint
28. Eru said, on February 18th, 2009:

I’ve nominated you for an award! Can you please check my blog for more info?^-^

Thanks!

Hi Kate,
If I hold the lipstick near my chin I can’t smell it. I have to get it really close to my nose to get a whiff of the coconut. On my lips I can’t smell it at all.
Aussie makes some good hair stuff!
31. Karen said, on February 18th, 2009:
Hi Alexx,
You are in luck — Benefit ships internationally! Now you can thrill in Brazil.
32. Karen said, on February 18th, 2009:

You’re killing me Karen… between these and the new NARS I am going to be broke… do any of these come off as frosty? I’m brown and frosty lipsticks look straight up terrible on me.
39. cloudburst said, on February 18th, 2009:
They all look nice – but Passionista & Thrillin’ are especially captivating.
40. Karen B said, on February 18th, 2009:
These look great.
Passionista especially will rock my boat I think.

It always brightens up my day whenever I see Tabs featured in your pics! Tabs is so cute! I’m dying to try Benefit’s Silky Finish Lipstick. I’ve had my eye on a pink color called: My Treat for a while now, but the ones you have featured are so pretty…
42. Michelle said, on February 18th, 2009:
No not at all, very sheer just like you said. I have to layer until I notice a little peachy color, but I do like it
43. lexi said, on February 18th, 2009:
thrillin brazillian and the samba-dy loves me are officially on my ‘obsessed with’ list! all i need is a caipirinha cocktail to go with it!
44. Karen said, on February 18th, 2009:
Hi Glosslizard,
Yes, girl! You can never go wrong with that combo.
Throw in some black high heels and yer SET!
45. Karen said, on February 18th, 2009:
Hi Vampy Varnish,
Sweet! I bet you could work it with some fierce smokey eyes.
46. Karen said, on February 18th, 2009:
Hi Alexx,
Ahhh! My bad! The site gets a lot of international readers and from time to time I hear from people from Brazil.
BTW, I had Brazilian food a few years ago and I have to say your country makes some REALLY GOOD FOOD.
47. Karen said, on February 18th, 2009:
Hi Shiny,
I hear ya. They are surprisingly not overly frosty. The shimmer is pretty toned down.
48. Karen said, on February 18th, 2009:
Hi Cloudburst,
Yeah, I heart those the most too!
49. Karen said, on February 18th, 2009:
Hi Karen B.,
Oh, I wore that today.
50. Karen said, on February 18th, 2009:
Hi Jenn,
I want to try the Silky Finish ones next. When I do I will report back on how they are.
51. Karen said, on February 18th, 2009:
Hi Michelle,
Yeah, I was kinda surprised that it was that sheer. I have the BP’s from the Barbie release and they’re very pigmented in comparison.
I’m glad that you like it, though!
52. Karen said, on February 18th, 2009:
Hi Lexi,
LOL! I’d like the bartender to whip me up one of those, too!
