The eagle has landed, ladies! I’m back at home in Cali, eating chips for dinner and chatting with Tabs (he says hi, BTW).

I just saw myself in the mirror, and I look a fright! — kinda like how I used to look back when I was first trying to do smokey eyes.

That reminds me of something MAC VP of Makeup Artistry Gordon Espinet told me about MAC Smolder Eye Kohl. He described a way to use it to create a really easy smokey eye.

Smolder’s a creamy black (one of my favorite smokey eye products), perfect for classic black versions of the look or goofy twists like this Halloween one here.

As part of MAC’s permanent line, it’s been easy to find for a while, but they decided to re-promote it with Style Black.

Hmm… Feels like time for a giveaway!

The prize

One lucky lady will receive a tube of MAC Eye Kohl in Smolder from the Style Black Collection (a $14.50 value).

I’ve used Smolder quite a few times to finish off a smokey eye. My go-to smokey eye is using Blanc Type for a highlighter, Satin Taupe all over the lid and blended up above crease, then Carbon in the crease. Add some Smolder on both upper & lower lashes. Then a bit of Platinum piggy at the tearduct and the inner third of lower lashline.

I usually put it on the outter corners of my top/bottom waterline to kinda draw more attention to my eyes. Ha! You really love that Club es dontcha :)

How I use it: I tightline the upper lash line, line my lower water line, and then line the top lids and wing it out a little for a smokey cat eye. Then I take a pointy tip q-tip and lightly smudge the upper and lower lashlines. I use this look with any color eyeshadow to make a smokier eye.

I’d try smudging below my lash line for the first time ever and then would probably wipe it off. I wouldn’t know what to do with it if I didn’t read your blog. I’d probably just line my lower inner eye with it. I’m a tad remedial.

I would use it to tightline my eyes, but I’ll make it thicker. Then some red lips for that Cleopatra look! :)

I don’t own Smolder, but I would wear it on its own for day, and then underneath a light shimmery shadow like All That Glitters for night, for a more wearable smokey eye.

ooh i have had this eye kohl in the past but sadly misplaced it :( its creamy, amazing application is great for smudging for a smokey eye (only on my upper lashline) and i love how the black lip glasses were used with it on the eyes in the style black collection. that would create a really dramatic night look which i would loooove :)

I would use it at my top lash line for a smudgy cat eye effect… I’d like to try it with my new eye primer by Guerlain that I just bought this weekend!

Ohhh, I’ve been hankering for a new eye liner! I dont know why I bought one with subtle glitter, and that just makes it harder for me to get it on smoothly…

  136. 136. Sarah said, on October 19th, 2009:

    I can’t believe I forgot to include how I would use it…

I’ve been wearing just eye liner and mascara for my eyes and so I’d probably do that. Or add MAC Painterly underneath it, to help it stand out. Or the Stila in Kitten frmo your post earlier today.

I’d love to try a smoky smudged look with it for evening. Purple and gray eyeshadow from MAC of course!
