MAC Red She Said Face of the Day: Navy Blue, Bronze and Brown Smokey Eye

October 29th, 2008 by Karen 55 Comments

For one precious hour last Saturday afternoon I got in some quality me time. El Hub had gone to the bookstore for something, so I had the place to myself. I plopped down on the living room floor with a bowl of chilled grapes, started an episode of Law and Order: SVU (lovin’ ya, Detective Stabler!) on the Tivo and reached for a few items from MAC Red She Said.

My mind was racing with thoughts of Tabs and other troubles, and I needed to distract myself with something uncomplicated, like Inter-view Mineralize Eye Shadow ($17.50), Enough Said Beauty Powder Blush ($18), Quiet, Please lipstick ($14) and Miss Dynamite Dazzleglass ($17.50).

From left to right: Enough Said Beauty Powder Blush, three shades from the Interview Mineralize Eye Shadow trio

I tried this brown, bronze and navy blue smokey eye. When I was done with the look, I walked around the room by myself, pretending I was contemplating impressionist paintings in a fancy art gallery.

Here’s how I did this look…

The Eyes

  1. I started by priming my lids with a layer of MAC Painterly Paint Pot applied with a fingertip.
  2. Next, I layered a mix of the brown and bronze shades from the MAC Inter-view Mineralize Eye Shadow Trio onto the inner two-thirds of my lid using a MAC 252 eyeshadow brush.
  3. Still with the same brush, I patted the navy blue shade from Inter-view onto the outer third of the lid and just barely into the crease, concentrating most of the color on the side closer to the ear.
  4. Then, I wet a MAC 239 eyeshadow brush with a spritz of MAC Fix+ and swept the wet brush head across the pan of bronze eyeshadow to load the brush and applied the rich, wet shadow to the inner third of my lid. With the edge of the brush, I lined the lower lash line.
  5. Using MAC Technakohl liner in Graphblack, I lined my upper and lower water lines.

To finish the eyes, I curled my lashes with the (legendary) Shu Uemura lash curler and added a couple coats of MAC Zoomlash mascara in Zoomblack.

The Cheeks

  1. Nothing complicated here, but I applied Enough Said blush with a MAC 116 blush brush to my temples and onto the apples of my cheeks.

The Lips

  1. I lined and filled in my lips with a MAC Spice Lip Pencil.
  2. Next, I applied MAC Quiet, Please lipstick directly on top of Spice pencil with a MAC 316 covered lip brush.
  3. To complete the lips, I dabbed some MAC Miss Dynamite onto the center of both the upper and lower lips.

I’ve been a little late to the Red She Said party, but I’m getting into it now. At first, I didn’t think it had the same WOW factor that Cult of Cherry did, but both Enough Said blush and Inter-view eyeshadow delivered beautiful results and helped me see the error of my makeup lurvin’ ways.

What’s been your overall impression of MAC holiday 2008 so far?

Daily Photo

Before Tabs emerged from hiding late last Sunday afternoon I went for a couple walks around the neighborhood to look for him, calling out his name into bushes and checking under parked cars. I was investigating a grassy area on a hill behind some apartments next door when I stumbled upon this beautiful doe.

I’m more of a city girl than a country girl, and anything resembling the woods kinda scares me. But a doe hanging out behind some bamboo on a hill in the burbs… that, I can handle. I named her “Pretty Girl.” I hope she comes back soon!

Why I Fear the Woods

I watched a lot of horror movies as a kid, and it’s a law of horror movie reality that bad stuff *always* happens in the woods, especially if you’re either brown or blonde, LOL! If you’re a brown or blonde character in a Hollywood horror movie, you’re *really screwed* when it comes to demon/zombie/vampire/mutant/aliens. 🙂

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

I really like the inter-view! I even like the name xD

And your “why I fear the woods” srsly made me LOL! It’s true! Browns and blondes might as well just hang out and wait to die xD

I, on the other hand, have short black hair. Therefore, I am the heroine. =3

Love that picture of you flashing “the gang sign” 🙂 I’m in the same boat with you when it comes to Red She Said, it does not seem to wow me at all. Or maybe I lost touch with MAC? Again, I can’t use anything mineralize from MAC because of allergic reaction to the skin. This is a lovely look, I’ve never thought of pairing those 3 colors together.

Ah, I think I need to dye my hair either jet black or bright red to be immune from demons/zombies/mutants/aliens/vampires/werewolves/… During my junior year in college I was a redhead, it didn’t go so well.

Absolutely flawless! That has to be one of my favorite looks on you evah!!

I’m pretty noncommittal about the whole MAC holiday offering, nothing really inspires me and all the shadow trios run too warm for my liking. I’m saving up to spend some $$$ on skincare when the Sephora FF sale comes around later in November (plus maybe a little on the side for some Chanel goodness 😉 ).

I like the woods!…. in the daytime!

Very pretty. Enough Said is perfect on your cheeks! I must say – I’m really loving the windblown hair in the pictures – it’s totally cute.

It really suits you especially how the bronzy color looks almost sheer towards the middle of the lid.. perfect!

I love that makeup look. It’s gorgeous! I think you should wear that look to your wedding you’re going to, if you haven’t picked out a look. I think it’s not too over the top for daytime and it could transition into night nicely.

You look stunning!!! Love the look! Interview is the only trio I did not buy from the collection because I thought it was way too dark, but I am ordering right now!

I saw a video from a MAC Mkp artist applying the trio Danger Zone which is red/ black / silver. Noone would ever think red looks nice as an eyeshadow but the look was also stunning…The collection is amazing!

I agree, some pocket money is never bad! Besides, three days a week ain’t bad, so I think I can handle it 😀

Glad to hear your work load will decrease after this week! Being stressed out and having too much to do workwise is not good for anyone. I’ve seen it happening with mom too often.

I hope your week has started well, too! For some reason I’ve been feeling very tired and exhausted for the past week or so. I find myself yawning in the morning, in the afternoon and in the evening. Weird, perhaps it’s the gray and dull weather and the upcoming winter or something.. 🙂

From the “Red” she said collection I got Quiet Please, Soft Pause and “Red” She said lipsticks plus the 2 light colors of the Dazzleglass which I adore. I love the “Red” She said lipcolor but my husband says that I look like a clown with it….:-( I have heard people mentioning that the Dazzleglass glosses are sold out at their local MAC stores, but they still have most of them available online and they are offering free shipping. Baby Sparks is a beautiful color!

The glitter fall out isn’t bad if I’m not in a hurry. The other day I tried to wear the bronze by itself on the lid when I had 2 minutes to get ready for work and it wasn’t cute. It really helps to wet the brush beforehand, I’ve found.

Awww, I bet you are totally cute with Red She Said lipstick. El Hub says the same thing when I try wearing brighter eyeshadow colors. He thinks the “no makeup look” (which of course requires at least five things, LOL) is the one I should wear all the time. Whatev, you can’t take away my blue eyeshadows!!!
