Glitter Is Good: The Bobbi Brown Blushed Pink Collection
This spring, Bobbi Brown is going beyond her famous “I’m not wearing makeup” bag o’ tricks and taking a chance on glittery pastel eyes with the Blushed Pink collection. The limited edition Sparkle Eyeshadows ($24 each) take glitter and make it sophisticated, age appropriate and totally not scary. For me, these four shades are the highlights of the release!
YSL Eyeshadow Duo in Oatmeal/Petroleum Blue: Splurge or Steal?
At $41, the Yves Saint Laurent Eyeshadow Duo in Oatmeal/Petroleum Blue from the spring 2009 collection isn’t exactly recessionista material. But overlooking the price for a moment, take a gander at the color. Here it is worn around my boring UPS brown peepers…
Freida Pinto’s Blue and Brown SAG Eye Look, Version 1
My attempt to re-create the blue and brown eye Freida Pinto wore to the SAG Awards didn’t turn out half bad. In the picture up top, Freida’s wearing a warm brown in the crease and a bluish gray shadow on the lid. I don’t know the exact products used for her look, but for my version I layered L’Oreal HiP Duo in Magnetic Fields on top of MAC Jadeye Fluidline.
Freida Pinto 2009 SAG Awards Look, Version 2.0
The mission: to duplicate Freida Pinto’s SAG 2009 makeup look! This time around, I added a drugstore makeup twist. Version 2.0 relies on some Neutrogena products, like the Nourishing Eye Duo in Starry Night ($9), an eyeshadow duo with two shimmery shades of blue.
How Closely Do You Follow Makeup Expiration Guidelines?
It’s easy to tell when a quart of milk goes bad, but what about a pan of cream eyeshadow? When it comes to the shelf life of cosmetics, there are no hard and fast rules, no FDA mandated regulations or requirements. Just general guidelines. I have to admit that I don’t follow them to a “T”. I can’t bring myself to toss a $27 tube of Diorshow Iconic Mascara just because I’ve had it open for three months.
MAC Hello Kitty Face of the Day: Peaches, Anyone?
My first reaction was mixed when I saw the promo pics for MAC’s latest collaboration. Sure, I was drooling over the branding and packaging from the start (I love Hello Kitty; always have), but the colors just didn’t look like stuff I could wear every day. Well, color me lame and call me crazy because after seeing the collection in person last month, I’m fully on board now!
Nars Says Aloha with the Hula Hula Eyeshadow Duo
I tried to come up a clever rhyme befitting the NARS Hula Hula Eyeshadow Duo ($32), but the closest I came were “Spend that moolah on Nars Hula Hula” and “I start to drool-a when I see Nars Hula Hula.” FYI: Not many words rhyme with hula. 🙂
My rhymes may not weave a sonnet, but this shimmery eyeshadow duo feels like poetry on my eyes.
Benefit Spring 2009 Full Finish Lipsticks, Come to Mama!
Benefit’s new spring 2009 Full Finish Lipsticks ($18 each) make me want to bust out the pom poms and cheer for Team Lipstick! All three shades dress up this spring in full coverage color — no sheerness here, babes!
5 Great Brown MAC Eyeshadows
Speaking of fun, how do you feel about brown eyeshadow? I’m a big fan, and MAC makes some of my favorites.
Be an Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess this Summer
Estee Lauder’s Bronze Goddess collection is one of the first summer releases so far. It’s a fairly large collection of summery eye and lip makeup, bronzers, self-tanners, a fragrance and even a nail polish thrown in for good measure. Even though it’s pouring down rain outside, the collection makes me daydream of surfing and beaches… and beach dudes.
Drugstore Elegance with Physicians Formula Cosmetics
Last week I set my mind to doing a shimmery gray eye and pink cheek look with a few items from Physicians Formula. I wanted a friend to keep me company, so I asked Tabs. He shot me a dirty look for waking him up, but he shoots me dirty looks all the time; I’m used to it. 🙂 Elegant isn’t a word I always associate with drugstore makeup, but when it comes to the looks possible with these four items from Physicians Formula (each about $12), I think it fits.
