Glitter Is Good: The Bobbi Brown Blushed Pink Collection

February 2nd, 2009 by Karen 47 Comments

This spring, Bobbi Brown is going beyond her famous “I’m not wearing makeup” bag o’ tricks and taking a chance on glittery pastel eyes with the Blushed Pink collection.

From left to right: Sparkle Eyeshadow in Mica, Ballet

The limited edition Sparkle Eyeshadows ($24 each) take glitter and make it sophisticated, age appropriate and totally not scary. For me, these four shades are the highlights of the release! 🙂

Bobbi also included a lovely spread of pink lip and cheek colors in her trademark classic style — colors that look natural (read: no hot pinks or fuchsias with blue reflects, yo!) and enhance, rather than disguise, one’s features.

Sparkle Eye Shadow takes center stage in Blushed Pink!

I can’t hang when it comes to big ol’ teeny bopper chunks of glitter (aye, I’m 33!), so any eyeshadow that makes me look like a Hot Topic refugee just isn’t an option.

You know those liquid shadows filled with fine grains of microscopic glitter (like Givenchy Precious Sari Glittering Eyeshadow)? The Sparkle Eyeshadows apply like that.

Seasoned makeup junkies might find them a little too sheer, but glitter shy gals (like moi) who prefer subtler looks might want to give ’em a try. Makeup and Beauty Blog Rating: A

Today’s Blushed Pink Look: Shimmery pastel eyes with pink cheeks and lips

The Blushed Pink model in the promo pics inspired my look today.

The eyes

For the eyes, I started with a thin layer of MAC Paint Pot in Painterly applied over the entire lid, followed by Mica (a shimmery gray) and Ballet (a shimmery pink) in the crease and on the brow bone.

To increase the contrast with the glitter, I patted Birch (a cool matte brown) into the outer V and then swept it along the lower lash line.

I finished the eyes with a little Clinique High Impact Curling Mascara on the top lashes and Tarte Bottoms Up mascara on the bottom.

The cheeks

For the cheeks, I swept In A Rush Blush from Clinique Quick Blush on the apples and up to the hairline.

Swatches from left to right: Ballet, Mica, Birch, Blush Pink, Baby

To finish off the entire look, I applied Bobbi’s Blushed Pink Creamy Lip Color (a creamy brownish pink) with some Baby Glitter Lip Gloss (a glittery and sheer peachy pink) on top.

What do you think? Is this enough color for you, or do you crave more?

Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,

Karen

P.S. You know how I’ve been aching for a new haircut, right? Well, I still haven’t made up my mind, but I think I’m narrowing it down. What do you think of Vanessa’s long and wavy cut with bangs in this pic here?

Pretty colors, although I do crave more (pigment, not glitter)! Very nice FOTD, though! I love BB’s quality, I just choose to rock a different form of feature enhancement! 🙂

Love the hair, BTW, that is a fabulous style and would look wonderful on you! 😀

You look so fresh-faced in this look – love it! I however did not like the Sparkle eyeshadows – I just felt it was glitter and more glitter but I guess it works as a top layer for highlighting.

I’m with you on the sparkle eyeshadows. I didn’t like them until I tried one on. They are subtle and brightening. I can always layer them over a colored eyeshadow. And honestly, I don’t do brights anyway. Adding Mica to All About Eve is plenty for me. Thanks for featuring these! I thought I was a little “out there” for liking them! I think Mica was a good choice for me (warm toned, blue eyed). Now you’ve got me wanting the pink too! 🙂

About the hair, it’s been a minute since I’ve had bangs but I think I’m ready for the challenge!

Yah, it’s nice when it’s on top of a Paint Pot!

Did you like any of the cheek or lip products from this release?

    Hey Karen,

I am so close to dropping everything and running to my nearest Nordstrom for a BB fix! Her new stuff is really sparking an interest in me (makeup artist wise). I only get a discount on her stuff in L.A., but I am in San Diego now and won’t be up that way till next week!!! What is your must, must have from this line? So curious!

This is a really pretty look Karen! I love it on you! I don’t think I’ll go for it….. pink eyeshadow makes me look like I’ve been crying…. maybe the Mica shadow though? I like the look of the lip color, I guess I’m gonna have to go and check out this collection!

    Hi Karen!

You look lovely in this photo! However, I’m really disliking BB products ever since she jumped on the metallic and glittery bandwagon. Her collections over the past year really turn me off. Given that she made her name on natural make-up perfect for the over-30 set (really ideal for 40++++LOL!), it seems she’s changed her marketing tactic going after the late teen/20-something. Unfortunate.

    Karen,
LOVE LOVE LOVE the hair. I have also been on the hunt for a new hairstyle and this is what I am going to do when I *finally* decide to take the plunge. It’s a big plunge for me to get bangs!!! Also check out Demi Lovato’s hair at the Camp Rock premiere – I sound like my oldest daughter quoting that, but it is super cute. And I love the Bobbi Brown look. I don’t do any glitter – same age as you, yo – and my eyelids are crepey. But I really like the new matte eyeshadows and lip compacts. It looks very pretty on you!

Absolutely love the hair!! Definitely go for it. I got bangs about a month ago that are shorter than that, they are hard to get used to. But once you have them for, oh like 3 days, you’re golden!

The colours seem really sheer, but I might be in for Mica – I was thinking the glitter shadows might be like BB’s LE Diamond Dust shadows, but these have way less pigment.

    Hi Melissa,

Yah, I feel ya. A few of the recent releases have been really fun and just plain beautiful. 🙂

In addition to the Sparkle Shadows, Right now I’m really into her mattes. I have a big ole’ crush on Birch, which I used in the look above.

Bobbi has a limited edition Brights Palette out right now, which is a palette with 35 soft matte shadows that might be worth a look! I haven’t been able to dig into mine yet (LOL, I need more hours in the day to play with makeup) but hoping to this week. 🙂

    Hi Shana T.,

I’ve heard many women say that about pink shadow — you aren’t the only one! 🙂 Ballet doesn’t have a lot of intense pink pigment, so you might be able to get away with it. But yah, Mica is awesome. It’s sooo pretty and wearable for the day. I hope you like it!

    Happy Tuesday!

I’ve noticed that change in her recent releases, too. I have to hand it to her, though — the woman does some good glitter, LOL!

Regarding the Bobbi matte shadows, they are AWESOME! They are super easy to blend…. and I’m the clumsiest of the clumsy, LOL. I hope you like ’em (and the lip compacts, too).

    How ’bout them Steelers!!!!!
You’re looking very good with the BB products. And believe it or not, you look younger. You are already young to begin with but for some reason that makeup gives you a more freshfaced school girl look. Maybe it’s the headband, too. Gee, whatever it is, you look great!!! Louise

I haven’t received my BB glitter shadows from qvc.com yet, but this is what I plan do to when I go get them to have a little pit more color / pigment, and utlize the BB shadow for a pop of sparkle: I’ll use Fresco Rose MAC paint pot on the lid, with MAC wintersky eyeshadow from the Chill collection on top, and then the BB ballet glitter shadow in the center of the lid. Then BB matte eyeshadow in either New Mink or Charcoal in the crease.
I have used the lipstick as of the last month, and I have to (although somewhat reluctantly on my part) admit that they will be a stable in my make up stash – simply because it does make me look pretty, and makes my prettiness come forward, rather than the color of the lipstick come forward. Boring – I know! But true for me.

Melissa – I’m a make up artist too, and I’m wondering how you get a BB discount in LA. I live in Atlanta. Do you think there are any options for me?

OMG. I know this is my third post in a row. . . but, I just got my Sunlight (I think that’s the name of the yellow glitter BB shadow in this collection) along with the Mahogany matte eyeshadow in the mail, and I did a swatch on the back of my hand. I did the Sunlight (yellow sparkle) eyeshadow first, and then layered the matte Mahogany ontop of the yellow sparkle. OMG. Gorgeousness! Me is in lurv.

Cool – good to see that growing out my bangs was a good move for me! I always wear them side swept – i like it either with wavy or when i straighten my hair – it’s a thumbs up from me!

also, I’m loving BB again – I think I may try the option of making my own palette – I guess it’s due to my MAC shadow burnout. Did you check out the blush/bronzing duo compact? i also love her lip tints – minty and the shade tea rose over MAC’s Whirl pencil underneath makes for perfect neutral pink suitable for work!

    Hi YadiQ,

The Sparkle Eyeshadows aren’t really pigmented — it’s mostly glitter of a certain shade. But it’s *good* glitter, LOL. 🙂

I really like Bobbi’s mattes. They are very easy to blend with medium to dark pigmentation.

Speaking of bold and Bobbi — her Brights palette makes me think of you!

I love her matt eyeshadows but the lipstick are drying on my lips. It works better if I apply a balm first.

I have her diamond dust in pink. Will try that over the matt shadows for a new look.

i love the glitter !! i’m actually considering getting them. Since my eyes does not have the crease ( argh! ), its harder for me to put makeup on. I’m also a makeup newbie. But sheer glitter eye shadows i love because its almost goof proof. Also it looks fab on you; very natural looking.
